There is one thing I learned from what I lived:

When you live something, you must live it fully

Your lover must be exhausted from your kisses

You must be exhausted from smelling a flower

One can look at the sky for hours

One can look for hours at the sea, at a bird, at a child

Living on this world is being one with it

Growing unbreakable roots into it

When you hug your friend, you must do it with all your power

You must be in a fight with all your muscles, body and passion

And when you lie on the hot sand,

You must rest like a grain of sand, like a leaf, like a stone

One must listen to all the beautiful music

Such that the sounds, the melodies fill inside

One must dive headfirst into this life

Like diving from a rock into an emerald sea

People you don't know must attract you to distant lands

You must live with the desire to read all the books and to know all the lives

You must exchange nothing with the happiness of drinking a glass of water

But for all the happiness there is, you must be filed with the longing to live

And you must also live grief, with honor, with all your presence

Because grief also maturates one, like happiness

Your blood must be intermixed with the large circulation of life

The never-ending, fresh blood of life must circulate in your veins

There is one thing I learned from what I lived:

When you live, you must live big, like being one with the rivers, the sky, and the whole universe

Because what we call lifetime is a gift presented to life

And life is a gift presented to you.

Tomb of Luís de Camões in Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Monastery of St. Hieronymus) in Belem, Lisbon.

Camões is considered to be Portugal's greatest poet. He is to the Portuguese language what Shakespeare is to English and Pushkin to Russian. He led an interesting life spanning most of the Portuguese Age of Discovery in the XVI c., became famous in his lifetime, and died of plague in dire poverty. There is a strong indication that bones interred in his grave do not, in fact, belong to him. And the magnificent tomb was made only in late XIX c.

If ever there was a "once in a lifetime" encounter for me, it would have to be seeing these beautiful cranes while my daughter and I were out exploring. And they had a baby, too, which yes, I did get pictures of the baby also.

Never was I so excited and happy to have some nice long glass so I could be close without disturbing these beautiful creatures. Photography Gods were with me that day. I hope you enjoy this shot half as much I did getting it. It really made my day.

Saint Angel Castle, is a tomb - "Mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian", his family and successors. The construction of mausoleum began during Hadrian's lifetime, but it was only completed during the reign of his successor Antoninus Pius in 139. In 271, the building was incorporated into the system of defensive walls of Rome, and it ceased to serve as a mausoleum. At the beginning of the 5th century it was rebuilt into a fortress.

At the end of 5th century, Pope Gregory the Great renamed the building to the Castle of St. Angel to commemorate appearance during the plague above the mausoleum, Angel hiding his sword as a sign of the end of the epidemic. In 608, Pope Boniface IV at the top of the fortress erected the chapel of St. Angel in Heaven.

This was once a busy spot in Steveston BC when the local fish packing plants were running at full speed. Now everything lies in ruins and disrepair as people stroll by not even knowing what once was!! Vlog Below!!

This is with a doubt the rarest bird for me and most people in the US. There has only been a small handful of sightings over the years. The bird was a little far out and the atmosphere caused some issues.

They say they sometimes appear here because of a large storm in the Atlantic.

After much love and care for over 4 years, one of my air plants has finally bloomed! 😃

Well, to my surprise, I just learned that air plants only bloom once in their lifetime. 😥

Once blooming is over, baby air plants will be produced, and they will eventually mature into their own “adult” air plant. 😊

Such a beautiful circle of life! 💖

PS: I recognize it's not the best photo. The light was flat yesterday, but I am too lazy to take another one today. Indoor flower macro shots are not easy to take IMO; I applaud all the macro photographers out there! 👏👏👏

Ovid, Metamorphoses

Ovid was the first major Roman poet to begin his career during Augustus' reign. Ovid was a contemporary of the older poets Virgil and Horace. Collectively, they are considered the three canonical poets of Latin literature. The Imperial scholar Quintilian described Ovid as the last of the Latin love elegists. He enjoyed enormous popularity during his lifetime. Regardless, the emperor Augustus banished him to a remote province on the Black Sea, where he remained until his death. Ovid himself attributes his exile to carmen et error ("a poem and a mistake"). His reluctance to disclose specifics has resulted in much speculation among scholars.

Tasman Lake and Tasman Glacier, Mount Cook, New Zealand.

Haupapa / Tasman Glacier is the largest glacier in New Zealand. It is nestled deep in Mount Cook National Park. The Glacier is now approximately 27 kms long and 600 metres deep.

Settled in its own terminal lake, the 300-500-year-old ice shelf is slowly tearing away, depositing icebergs of all shapes and sizes in to the water. The lake is one of only a few in the world that contains icebergs. I did a boat tour on this lake and I will post pictures of close-ups of the Glacial shelf and ice-bergs. You can just see the shelf of the glacier at the end of Tasman Lake. For scale, those little dots you see out there are tour boats, and a few scattered ice-crystals.

Eventually the glacier will retreat entirely, and the lake will reach its maximum size. In 1973, there was no terminal lake at all, and by 2008 it had grown to 7kms in length. The current period of rapid melting began in the 1990s and between 2000 and 2008 alone, the glacier terminus receded 3.7 km.

I was visited the before the fires from Australia turned many of the New Zealand Glaciers Brown.

Niblo Masuoleum at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn

William Niblo was the owner of Niblo's Garden that opened in 1828. The garden would feature entertainments with dancers, music and fireworks. Niblo would often visit Green-Wood Cemetery during his lifetime and host parties on the lawn in front of the mausoleum. Green-Wood carries on that tradition and has an annual evening event at the location with entertainments such as stilt walkers, jugglers and acrobats.

Swallows flying over the algae-strewn water of Bushy Park pond. They were swooping and diving at an incredible speed searching for insects. Light conditions were poor and I had to use ISO 2500 to get the speed and depth of field needed to have any chance of focus on one never mind two.

It's the first time I have photographed flying swallows.

Miniature new transmitters recently revealed that the 4-ounce (113-gram) bird follows zigzagging routes between Greenland and Antarctica each year. In the process, the arctic tern racks up about 44,000 frequent flier miles (71,000 kilometers)—edging out its archrival, the sooty shearwater, by roughly 4,000 miles (6,440 kilometers).

Since the birds often live 30 years or more, the researchers estimate that, over its lifetime, an arctic tern migrates about 1.5 million miles (2.4 million kilometers)—equal to three trips to the moon and back. Thats just AMAZING!!!

The Jefferson Clinton Hotel was built in 1927 and designed by Syracuse architect Gustavus Young. It was one of approximately 20 hotels in the Armory Square area that serviced the railroads. With 11 floors, it was the tallest structure of its time. When standing on the western corner, the building’s unusual shape presents the illusion of a façade with nothing behind it. Now the hotel features 60 well-appointed luxury suites.

Opened in 1927 as the Hotel Jefferson Clinton, this hotel has undergone a few name changes over its lifetime. The hotel fell into tough times during the Great Depression and had a series of failed ownerships over several decades.

It had fallen into disrepair and was operating as the Dome Hotel (Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome is visible from its top floors) when the hotel closed in 1987. It reopened in June 2001 after a complete renovation as the Hawthorn Suites, in affiliation with the Hyatt-owned Hawthorn Suites chain.
