National Library Week ended yesterday, so I'm a bit late. But better late than yada, yada, yada. Libraries are so important and do much more than lend books. I support our library year-round and hope you do too. And librarians are the best!!
I saw this fantastic sign at the Salmon, Idaho library when we were there a couple years ago.

Hadrian's Library was a large library in ancient Athens. Today it gets an unusual visit.
The Calgary Central Library's design was unveiled to the public in September 2014 by architects Snøhetta (known for Bibliotheca Alexandrina) and DIALOG, who won a design competition in 2013. The entire building is oval-shaped and is elevated one floor above street level to cover a CTrain light rail tunnel and an open plaza, included with the intention of connecting Calgary's East Village to Downtown. The entrance is framed by wood-clad arches inspired by the shape of arched clouds made by Chinook winds in Alberta. Landscaping around the library and adjoining plaza consists of terracing inspired by the foothills of the Canadian Rockies.[8]
The exterior of the Calgary Central Library is wrapped in a textured façade, with translucent fritted glass panels used to shield private study areas and clear glass to make public areas viewable from the outside.[8][9]
The 22,000-square-metre (240,000 sq ft) interior is centered around a four-storey central atrium topped by a skylight. The lower floors contain the library's meeting spaces and activity centres, while the upper floors feature book stacks with space for 450,000 titles and a reading room. At street level, one floor below the main lobby, is a 340-seat theatre, conference rooms, and small café.[1][10]
The library features several sustainable design features, such as triple-pane windows to save energy on climate control and finishings made of low volatile organic compound materials.[11]
The city library is in the former fire station. Apart from books there are computers for public use and staff who know lots.
More than a place for books, it's a cultural center with poetry club meets, yoga sessions, local art exhibitions, and a warm place to hang out in the cold months.
If you are lucky enough to have a public library, please use it. Or lose it.
The public Library in my home town is a building that was converted after being destroyed in the bombing raids of March 1945. Historically it used to be an administration building for the diocese of Paderborn.

The Doheny Memorial Library on the campus of the University of Southern California opened in 1932. It’s still a destination and a draw.
There is a small garden next to the former royal residence of King Rama I. It afforded me some very welcome shade and a place to sit for a few minutes
The town library is housed in what was originally the fire station, next to what was the town hall and is now the museum.
I don't know how old this lamp is, but it's rather nice, don't you think?

The Library of Parliament (French: Bibliothèque du Parlement) is the main information repository and research resource for the Parliament of Canada. The main branch of the library sits at the rear of the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, and is the last untouched part of that larger building's original incarnation after it burned down in 1916. The library has been augmented and renovated a number of times since its construction in 1876, the last between 2002 and 2006, though the form and decor remain essentially authentic. The building today serves as a Canadian icon, and appears on the obverse of the Canadian ten-dollar bill.
The library is overseen by the Parliamentary Librarian of Canada and an associate or assistant librarian. The Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate and the Parliamentary Budget Officer are also considered to be officers of the library.

National and University Library in Zagreb, NSK is the national library of Croatia and central library of the University of Zagreb. The Library was established in 1607.
Since 1995 the NSK has been located in a purpose-built cubical building.
Its primary mission is the development and preservation of Croatian national written heritage. It holds around 3 million items.
