Lego Tron Light Cycle.
Happy New Year everyone :)
Ok so this one has taken me some time to build. Collecting all the pieces and constantly tweaking the curves.
I will be honest I am slightly apprehensive about this build. I have put so much effort into it but I am not sure how it will be received. So I really hope you like it.
"The grid.....a digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer; What did they look like? Ships, motorcycles, with the circuits like freeways. I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then one day, I got in". Kevin Flynn
T.R.O.N has always been one of my favorites (either one really). I thought I should add a version of Kevin Flynn's bike to my collection. The model is mostly possible, with the exception of a piece at the back that may need a sticky solution (gasp, kragle!).
Thanks for looking! Also, hope everyone has had a nice Easter (and/or) Passover :)

In the mail today: a 1924 Zeiss Jena 16,5cm large format lens. I have no idea what to do with it, but it might well go in that direction:

Kevin Flynn: [Voice Over] The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see.
A little teaser of a build I hope to post early next year. Can you guess what it is?
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all
My version of the original 1982 Tron poster in Lego. Dedicated to Moebius (Jean Giraud) who recently passed away and contributed many designs for the film (especially characters/costumes). First shown at Bricks by the Bay 2012 (in the non-existent "Bricks of Character" category).
Here's a copy of the original poster:
In 2018 the LEGO set from the movie Tron: Legacy was released. I bought it shortly after its premiere. I really love the Tron style. The minifigures are fantastic! The light cycles themselves are okay but I quickly rebuilt them into something else.

High resolution images and full original post on the LEGO Blog:
I put off building a recognizer for a long time. It seems like the easiest thing in Tron to make out of Lego bricks, because of all the blocky shapes, but the two main issues are the colored edges, and the empty space between each section.
I experimented with red highlights (you can see a couple examples in the tank) but didn't work them into this build.
The sections are all held together by a system of recessed one-by plates (studs sideways) leaving roughly a one-stud gap between each section. This makes it much stronger than just using some transparent bricks; you can fly the whole thing around the room without any risk of pieces falling off. The legs cannot (yet) move to the center 'attack' position!
I shot this pic upside down on a table, then flipped the image. Couldn't quite get rid of all the shadows with the lights I had available, so had to photoshop them out.
Version 1.1 (with thinner chest piece and covered feet!):

Straight on shot so you can see the recessed supports:
I havn't seen the flick, so no spoilers!
I've had this guy laying around since BrickCon where Will gave me the Chakram/Identity Disc. Thanks Will!
Besides the BrickArm Proto, this is all purist LEGO.
It looks like that leak from yesterday is legit because LEGO just shared the following video across their social media channels:

Displayed at the Brickarms booth in Brickcon2010. Very nice work Brandon (Catsy)! Can't wait to see what you got for us next!
Picture taken by one of my good friends Nik444 when we both went.
Yep, I have decided to switch of to Blender. Since I got a computer that had enough processing power, the choice was clear for me, quality of quantity. I still have a lot of research and learning to do, but well worth it in the long run!
Close up of Tron and Yori. These are ever so slightly larger than "miniland" scale as found in Legoland parks, but I thought it fitting for the heroic pose.
Totally forgot that a photo of the Legotron was the Large Format Color group icon and that I hadn't added a photo shot with it to that group!
Lego Zoetrope. The slits between plates act as a shutter creating an 8 frame animation. I was working with limited parts, so had to reverse the minifigure torsos to get 8 that matched from the front.

Several small changes from the 1.0 recognizer. Smooth feet are the most obvious here. Also re-built the center floating piece (just below the head) using 1x1 slopes on the sides to make it a bit thinner, and rebuilt some of the supports making it stronger and better balanced.

Lego Zoetrope. The slits between plates act as a shutter creating an 8 frame animation. Much simpler design than my previous Legotropes (provided you have a 40 tooth gear and enough hinge plates), built compact to take on a plane to BrickCon 2011.
