This design wouldn’t be possible without flex tube. Indeed, I used a lot of these pieces, cut to specific lengths to create the shape of the arch.

Using bar holders, clips, and hands, I adjusted the distance between the arches and built the trusses. All of this is anchored in the piers on either side of the bridge!

Due to various factors my building rate has declined significantly. Nevertheless I am pressing on with my Detroit building project.

I selected this building to model because of its art deco style. While modest in comparison to the more flamboyant hotels of Miami's South Beach, this light industrial building has a couple of nice stepped Mayan stye arches.

I also have a photo of the original building in my photo collection.

Can anyone guess what building this is? (question has now been answered)

The latest Design Insights for my years-long project to build the entirety of Imperial Rome are now posted on my Patreon page! These insights cover the VELABRUM; the region of Ancient Rome which sat at a crossroads between the Capitoline and Palatine Hills.

Like the Arch of Janus depicted in the sneak peek rendering, this post marks a turning point in the progression of this project which I first announced on the Kalends of January. It has taken some time to lift off the ground, but the steadfast support of all my patrons has helped me reach a point where the design updates will now be coming fast & furious over the next several weeks of intense design efforts.

I very much still need your support in making this project a reality! It's no stretch to say that this is my most comprehensive - and exciting - project to date. It takes a village to realize any ambitious undertaking, but this is certainly not without its rewards. I encourage you to visit my Patreon page and consider contributing. In exchange, patrons will be the first to see all the newly designed areas, with exclusive perks and further insights / access for the higher tiers.

To put it another way, the soldiers are being mustered, the generals have made their offerings at the Temple of Mars Ultor, and the legions are now marching toward the frontier for the long campaign season ahead! Onward - and festina lente!

This build is a large castle/landscape display featuring The Knights of the Black Falcon and The Forest Guard.

First and foremost the aim of this build was to showcase what I love about those classic mid-80s Castle sets and specifically my two favourite factions. I have drawn inspiration from the original sets featuring each faction, specifically what I loved about them as a child and aimed to contrast that with what appeals to me as an adult builder.

The build features two fortresses side by side, Falkenholt Castle, the fortress of the Knights of the Black Falcon and an underground network of caves and tunnels that comprise the fortress of the Forest Guard.

Some of the elements that I am most happy with in this build are the level of detail and texture, the cross-section style cutaway on the edges of the build showing the internal structure of the castle as well as the geological layers of rock, clay and soil.

I built this tiny version of the Fisher Building as my contribution to the Michigan LEGO User Group's permanent display at the Troy Michigan LEGO store. It measures about 9.5 inches (or about 1/3 meter) high. Due to space limitations in the store display space, it only includes the West Grand Blvd facade.

Despite - or perhaps in light of - the imminence of the tower’s completion in time for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, longstanding debates concerning the relationship between architecture and engineering came to a head as ground was broken on the Champ de Mars in January 1887 ...

Sometimes you start a MOC and it takes several years to complete it, and then another year to take proper photos of it. This is one of those MOCs.

This is my deep dive into modular buildings. So far I really like it? It is fun to create buildings that are made of all these bits of inspiration of Portland locations. The art store is a love letter to the now defunct Art Media in downtown Portland.

It is a modular fish market sized 64x32 studs comprising seven pavilions and few bridges. The market is divided into wet goods and dry goods zone, with shops ranged from fish stalls, flower shop and grocery stores at Ground, and cafe and restaurant on the 1st Floor. Vibrant Coral and Dark Azur are adopted as colour palette of the design. Built with several types of window frames, a huge canopy provides weather proection to the people below. Enjoy shopping and eating with proper distancing!

I have finally been able to resume construction on my LEGO model of Detroit's Guardian Building.

I am about 70% done with the two seven story sections that make up the base of the 40 story Guardian. The middle sections which will start at about were the tallest visible portion is will be a little more straightforward in technique. The colorful band should be a series of interlocking hexagons but even with the small cheese slope sized pieces it did not work out in this scale. In some ways I would be nice to build this in a larger scale as I have had to leave out considerable detail to make everything fit. I still am waiting for an inspiration as to the best method of modeling the Pewabic tile half dome inside the main Griswold entrance.

Throwback to a moc that I created two years ago. New renderings and some minor changes from the original moc. Väven is a cultural center in Umeå, Sweden located next to Ume River. Väven was built in 2011-2014 and next to Väven is the hotel Stora Hotellet. Architects are Norwegian Snøhetta and White arkitekter. Computer rendering but only existing bricks were used.

One of the world’s most famous landmarks spans 244 meters across the River Thames in London, constructed between 1886 and 1894 by some of the Empire‘s most renowned engineers. Its iconic 65-meter-tall towers surpass the height of its namesake, the nearby Tower of London. The shape is not because of pure aesthetic reasons but was a technical necessity to accommodate the machinery needed to operate the moveable spans, so that larger vessels could still reach harbor facilities upstream. Though it was not the first crossing between Tower Hamlets to the north and Southwark to the south, it quickly became the more popular route, leading to the demise of the Tower Subway (one of the world’s first underground railways, which went out of service in 1898).

The model consists of 1,289 pieces, is built in scale 1:650. It features moveable spans and represents the current blue and white color scheme (which it also was originally painted in).

After four years of LEGO construction, my model of the Penobscot Block is complete. It includes models of the Savoyard Center, 1900 (1 foot high), original Penobscot Building, 1905 (3 feet high), Ford Building, 1909 (4 feet high), Penobscot Annex, 1913 (5.5 feet high), and the Penobscot Building, 1928 (9.5 feet to roof, 11 feet to top of spire). The entire block probably weighs on the order of 400 pounds.

The Penobscot Block is being displayed at the Midland Center for the Arts as part of the Art of the Brick exhibit featuring the LEGO art of Nathan Sawaya (June 12 to September 2, 2010). Eighteen of J Spencer Rezkalla's microscale skyscrapers comprising his Skyline exhibit are also on display. The Michigan LEGO train club will have a train and town layout with operating LEGO trains.

A short summary of the passing year.

Happy new year!

As the city begins to grow beyond Phase I, it's increasingly necessary to clearly visualize the impact of that growth.

Likewise, it's more critical than ever to maintain steady growth of grass roots support for this project!

It's going to take a village to recreate this Imperial Capitol, and your support goes a long way in these efforts; not to mention the rewards that are in store for patrons!
