A 90' drop in the Black Creek Gorge called Noccalula Falls is a popular destination and campground in Gadsden, Alabama. A ballroom was once operated in the cave behind the Falls, but efforts at expansion led to a partial collapse.
Named for a Cherokee Princess, legend (inscribed on a plaque behind the statue) purports that Noccalula was supposed to marry a warrior of the Creek tribe, as arranged by her father, a Cherokee tribal chief, to promote peace between the tribes. However, on her wedding day, she jumped from the rocks along the Gorge, rather than marry, for she had fallen in love with a Cherokee warrior of her own tribe.
Legendary stories aside, this stone circle stands beneath Belstone Tor in the moorland hill landscape of Dartmoor National Park. It is a cairn circle, or kerbed circle, that would have surrounded a central burial cist known on Dartmoor as a kistvaen.
Various legends or folk lore are attributed to this circle but they revolve around the idea of people having been turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday. No doubt stories told by those who wanted to frighten others to control them in order to strengthen their own position of power in society. Nothing much changes!!

A hike up Slieve Commedagh on a truly fantastic day. The rains stayed away for the entire route and the air was about as clear as ever. As we made our way up the grad this view unfolded, the tones were excellent and the contrasts in the cloud are the cherry. Truly pleased with this but I really wish I had better gear to compose a clearer window. The Mourne Mts are truly spectacular. Enjoy.
The legendary Paradise Missionary Baptist Church turns 99 years old this year.
1112 E Scott St, Tampa Bay, Florida.
Built in 1922, this now permanently closed and condemned church is the original Allen Temple A.M.E. Church on Scott St, located just off Central Ave. When the African American community in Tampa Bay was vibrant and new and excited about their own place in town, this was a pillar or communal strength.
Scott Street and Central Ave along with downtown proper for the railroads and the Tampa Bay Hotel, Ybor and Temple Terrace was the epicenter for Tampa Culture in general. Putting Tampa on the map with jazz and blues acts that traveled down for their heydays and safety in numbers and love.
Tampa Bay in the early 20th century was reborn in music.
Sadly the Central Ave District is not what it once was, but has since gone through a revival of sorts with quality efficiently and low-income but sustainable and clean housing.
Hopefully together when can all bring the change we want to see and elevate the district back to it's musical roots of locale and fame.
