So the holy animals
travelled the holy world
And do you know how or why?
Oh no, they just went travelling, they didn’t have a flag!

or bled a city dry

Nijo Castle's legendary Ninomaru Garden and it's koi pond, which is lined with decorative boulders gathered throughout all corners of Japan, were designed in 1626 on the castle grounds for Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa (Edo) shogunate (1603–1867). If you have read James Clavell's novel "Shogun" or watched the Shogun TV series, you're already familiar with Tokugawa Ieyasu because Clavell based the warlord 'Lord Toranaga' on him.)
Lord Tokugawa unified Japan in 1600, following twenty six years of civil war at the end of the 16th century. In 1601 he directed Japan's daimyos (feudal lords) to construct Nijo Castle as his Kyoto residence in a location very close to the Imperial Palace.
The castle grounds, completed in 1603 (amazingly after only two years!), are spectacular, covering 68 acres (27.5 hectares) which include 86,000 sq ft (8,000 sq m) of buildings including two palaces, ponds, rock gardens, and inner- and outer moats. It is now a World Heritage Site.
Upon completion, Tokugawa moved in and hosted a ceremony wherein Japan's Emperor announced to the gathered feudal lords his appointment of Tokugawa as Shogun. Tokugawa's main residence and his new seat of government was in Edo (now called Toyko), so this huge Nijo Castle was akin to his 'country home' used primarily whenever he visited the emperor in the Imperial Capital.
In 1614 the shogun led his samurai army from Nijo Castle on his victorious Siege of Osaka Castle which ended the line of the Toyotomi family, his last political opposition, and established himself as the absolute polical ruler of Japan. His shogunate lasted two hundred sixty four years. In 1857 the 15th Shogun of his line, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, ended shogunate rule and returned political control to the Emperor as Japan opened to the world.
The back of the house is pitch black in winter as there are no street lights, so it's always handy to keep a torch around. This small LED torch is always in my pocket and has lit the way up the back path on quite a few occasions.
I was at Big Sur this weekend in the California coast. The State park nearby has a tunnel access to a beautiful water fall. Trying some light painting with LED.

The smallest 35 mm camera ever made in mass production (made in Singapore). Modern digital pocket cameras are smaller, but I found the pictures on Flickr made by this filmbox of great quality, so I decided to buy one, also inspired by a photograph made by Paul van Eik. The name LED refers to lightmeter indicator within the viewer, but it needs a battry which is not available today for reasons of environmental pollution. It also works on a pile of SR44 batteries but that costs about 20 euros, and I already have a separate lightmeter, so no LED for me.
The picture is too green, and I leave it that way as a protest against the overdone blue of the colour black which I can't get rid of in digital cameras, without affecting the other colours too much.

I bought this chrysanthemum cluster at a nursery to practice focus stacking. Behind the flowers is a green patterned swath of fabric, but with a blue LED light shining on it. I set the camera to take 80 frames, and blended them with Helicon Focus.

My Yema LED watch - a modern reincarnation of an original design from the 1970’s. My very first watch when I was a kid was a red LED black plastic thing … and I thought it was the most amazing technological masterpiece! Of course it stopped working in less than a year and being a future engineer I pulled it apart and eventually it got discarded.

Jedným z pravidelných nákladných vlakov medzi Košicami a Zvolenom je relačný vlak Pn 61312, jazdiaci v pondelky, stredy a v piatky a relačný vlak Pn 61310, jazdiaci v utorky a štvrtky. Tieto vlaky jazdia obvykle v ranných, resp. doobedných
hodinách, pričom z Lučenca odchádzajú okolo obeda a do Zvolena sa tak dostávajú krátko poobede. Pn 61312 sa obyčajne zvykne omeškať, a to z dôvodu meškania obratového Mn 83361 z Rimavskej Soboty do Jesenského.
V Jesenskom sa koná preprah medzi rušňami 751/752 z depa Plešivec a rušňami 746 z depa Zvolen, pracoviska Lučenec. Na fotke je zachytený zmeškaný Pn 61312 vedený dvojicou 746tiek z depa Zvolen a postrkovými 756tkami z rovnakého depa,
tesne po prechode výhybňou Pstruša. V pozadí je vidieť kameňolom, ktorý zásoboval lomovým kameňom výstavbu rýchlostnej cesty R2, vedúcej zo Zvolenskej Slatiny po Kriváň.
Takmer celú záťaž vlaku, až na prvý vozeň ložený drevom, ktorý smeroval do Rakúska, tvoria vozne naložené antracitom pre spoločnosť VUM sídliacu v Žiari nad Hronom v areáli hlinikárne Slovalco.
Odberateľ, spoločnosť VUM, je slovenská spoločnosť zaoberajúca sa výrobou a predajom uhlíkových výrobkov na báze antracitu, smolného koksu, petrolkoksu a iných. Antracit firma
nakupovala v dobe vyhotovenia fotky až z ďalekého Ruska, konkrétne z Novosibirskej oblasti. Zásielky pochádzali zo stanice Linevo, približne 70 kilometrov južne od tretieho najväčšieho mesta Ruska - Novosibirsk.
Týmto zásielkam trvalo približne 30 dní kým sa z východzej stanice v Rusku dostali až do cieľovej stanice sa Slovensku, samozrejme v rátane prekládky zo širokého rozchodu na európsky
v Čiernej nad Tisou. Nanešťastie po vojenskej invázii Ruska na Ukrajinu tieto prepravy úplne ustali a boli nahradené antracitom, pochádzajúcim pravdepodobne zo Českej Republiky.

One of the regular freight trains between Košice and Zvolen is train Pn 61312, running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and train Pn 61310, running on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These trains usually run in the morning or after lunch
hours, leaving Lučenec around lunchtime and arriving in Zvolen shortly after noon. Pn 61312 is sometimes delayed, due to the delay of turnaround Mn 83361 from Rimavská Sobota to Jesenské.
In Jesenské, there is a change between locomotives 751/752 from the Plešivec depot and locomotives 746 from the Zvolen depot, Lučenec workplace. The photo captures the delayed Pn 61312 led by a pair of 746s from the Zvolen depot and spur 756s from the same depot.

Almost the entire load of the train, except for the first wagon loaded with wood, which was headed to Austria, consists of wagons loaded with anthracite for the VUM company located in Žiar nad Hronom in the area of the Slovalco aluminum smelter.
The customer, the company VUM, is a Slovak company engaged in the production and sale of carbon products based on anthracite, pitch coke, petroleum coke and others. Company was buying anthracite
at the time the photo was taken, from as far away as Russia, specifically from the Novosibirsk region. The shipments came from the Linevo station, approximately 70 kilometers south of Russia's third largest city - Novosibirsk.
These shipments took approximately 30 days to reach the destination station in Slovakia from the departure station in Russia, of course including transload from wide, Easter European gauge to European gauge
in Čierna nad Tisou. Unfortunately, after Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, these shipments stopped completely and were replaced by anthracite, probably coming from the Czech Republic.
Took out the batteries and backlit the led end, I liked the reflections up the sides of the barrel.
