Lectio Divina is an ancient practice of reading sacred texts slowly and considering them on many different levels, with the goal of applying them to your life. For a few years, that was the core of my spiritual practice. Every morning I would get up and read an essay or a poem or a reflection, after saying a short prayer and lighting a candle. Kathleen Norris' Amazing Grace: A Vocabulary of Faith was a favorite because of how much it helped me understand the religious terms that plagued me so much, many of which I am reflecting on here.
This whole practice of self portraits is a form of Lectio Divina.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
"Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit;
to God who is, who was, and who is to come." Cf. Rev 1:8
I love the prayer from Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity that begins:
“O my God, Trinity whom I adore, help me to forget myself entirely that I may be established in You as still and as peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity. May nothing trouble my peace or make me leave You, O my Unchanging One, but may each minute carry me further into the depths of Your Mystery.

WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
God is the “Spirit of Truth,” God will only guide us to what is a Good, True, and Beautiful. We are in good hands IF we are following God!
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Follow God, the father, son, Holy Spirit.
- Listen to HIS guiding Words.
- Trust that God will always lead us to the Truth.
PRAYER
Father, help me to listen to YOUR guiding words and Trust that YOU will always lead me to the Truth.

somehow this beaver
reminds me of chewing one's daily bread
the kind of bread that nourishes our spirits
it reminds me of the ancient contempletive practice of lectio divina,
slow reading of a scripture,
the part where you are reading and listening with "the ears of your heart"
as St. Benedict suggests
when you are "touched" by a passage or word
that is your food for the day
your gift from Divine
there's no need to read further
no need to overeat
as this is already enough
then you bring this word or phrase into your day
by meditating on it, chewing it, digesting it and waiting in pregnant silence
as the word is stewing on the back burner of one's mind
sometime an insight comes
or maybe it might take another day, week, month or year
I first read about this process in the book "A Tree Full of Angels" by Sr. Macrina Wiederkehr,
and heard it again at a meal-time talk at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert.
Maybe I can use this process with nature,
something touches me
so I grab my camera
record the moment
chew on it some day
and let nature's wisdom speak to me
if I have the ears, quietness and stillness to hear
maybe one can discover nature's teaching like this

My #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for Luke 15:1-32 (The Prodigal Son parable)
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
I was once the prodigal son/daughter… I Thank God that I came to my senses and repented of my sins. (Abortion, drugs, alcohol, sexual sins, rebellion, etc.)
What a blessing it is that the Lord Never gave up on me. I believe His Mother Mary wrapped me in her mantle (captivating my attention in the many hours of art history classes) and she led me to her son Jesus so I could give Him my darkness and come out into His wonderful light.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Continue to live in His Light, His Word, His Love and His Mercy and share with others in Hopes of leading them to Him as well.
PRAYER
Thank you Lord for Never Giving up on me... I was lost but you cared enough to “leave the 99” and come find me in my darkness. Thank you for giving me your Mother Mary to Love me and lead me to you. I am thankful, grateful and feeling blessed.

Love of the Beautiful, this is my theme in life and what drives me to hike, backpack, down river kayak, and sea kayak. Along the way I including nature photography at every turn possible, to capture the beauty of God's creation and let it inspire and refresh me.
As I am also seeking to cultivate the beautiful in my life, while I hike I normally include praying the Liturgy of the Hours and reflections on the daily scripture readings, and keep a devotional journal on all of my adventures. Along with praying the hours, I also prayer walking the Jesus Prayer and make prayer stops for lectio, sensio, and visio divina. All of these devotional practices aid me in aid in my personal renewal and transformation in Christfulness. For me, spending time exploring nature is just as much a spiritual exercise as it is physical.
Here are a few of the most scenic and distance trails that I have hiked in part: Buffalo River Trail, Ozark Highlands Trial, Ouachita National Recreation Trail, Superior Hiking Trail, North Country Trail, Ice Age Trail, Boynton Canyon Trail (Sedona, AZ), Dale Ball Trails (Santa Fe, NM), Mittelweg Black Forest Trail (Germany), Saint Martins Pilgrimage Trail (Hungary), National Blue Trail (Hungary), South Transdanubian Trail (Hungary), The Transylvania Trail (Romania), and the Padiş Hiking Trail (Romania).
My dream is to hike more long distance pilgrimage trails to historic and sacred sites like the Isle of Arran in Scotland, the Pilgrims Path in Ireland, the Way of Saint Jame pilgrimage trail in Spain, tea house trekking near Pokhara Nepal, the mountain paths near Pai Thailand, and the Maclehose Trail outside of Hong Kong. State side, returning to places like Sadona and Santa Fe and to try for the first time Eugene, Bolder, or Santa Cruz would be wonderful as these are known to be places with beautiful hiking hiking and that also have a spiritual vibe.

WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
We must be prepared for the Lord‘s return at the second coming. HE will, “proceed to wait on them…“– those who were obedient and diligently waiting for HIM.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Be prepared by frequently receiving the Eucharist and confession.
- Daily Bible study and prayers.
- Care for those who God puts in my life.
- Pray for my enemies to be truly contrite and prepared for God‘s second return.
- Share the gift of Faith that God has given to me. That is the Heavenly Treasure and it must be given away to all who will listen.
PRAYER
“Lord, YOU have captured my heart for YOU. Make it strong in Faith, steadfast in Hope, and generous in LOVE that I may seek to please YOU in all things and bring YOU glory. Keep me ever watchful for the coming of YOUR Kingdom.” ~ www.dailyscripture.net

WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
I came to feed All my disciples and the fragments left over are now in the Tabernacle for you to continue to receive and know that I am with you always. I gave the 12 leftover fragments in baskets to the 12 Apostles for them to share, My Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, with the world. I expect you to do the same. Share Me with the world...
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Receive HIM often in the Sacrament of Communion, but also praise and worship HIM in the presence of the the Tabernacle because HE is always there. “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.” Share all that the Lord has done for me with anyone who will listen.
PRAYER
“Lord Jesus, You satisfy the deepest longing of our Heart and You feed us with the finest of wheat (Psalm 81:16). Fill me with Gratitude and give me a Generous Heart that I may freely share with others what You have given to me.”

My #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for Sunday 8/23/20 Gospel reading from Matthew 16:13-20 - “Who do You say that I am?”
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Yes, Jesus, you are the Christ, the son of the living God. You have established YOUR CHURCH on earth with the apostles beginning with Simon Peter. YOU gave us (YOUR 1st priest/pope) the authority to lose and bind sin on earth and in heaven. We thank YOU for the sacrament of CONFESSION to wipe away our sins. Continue to lead and guide us to YOUR kingdom in heaven.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Go to confession often, at least once a month, and be TRULY CONTRITE for my sins. Do an examination of conscience daily and ask God to guide me to a better tomorrow. Stay close to HIM and HIS CHURCH and all the Sacraments and read HIS Word daily.
PRAYER
“Lord Jesus, I profess and believe that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. You are my Lord and my Savior. Make my faith strong like Peter's and give me boldness to speak of You to others that they may come to know You personally as Lord and Savior and grow in the knowledge of Your great LOVE.”

“Lord, YOU know everything; YOU know that I LOVE YOU...”

Are we catching people for the Lord and HIS Kingdom? Do we LOVE HIM more than we Love the people in our Life? Are we following HIM in the best way we possibly can?

- Follow HIM…

WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
God’s gifts are abundant, life-giving, and eternal. Turn to HIM for this Living Water in the sacraments. Trust in HIM.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Trust HIM to provide.
- Turned to HIM when I am thirsty and I need.
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, my soul thirsts for YOU. Fill me with YOUR Holy Spirit that I may always find joy in YOUR presence and take delight in doing YOUR will."

The 5 photos that I chose from the contemplative walk around my neighborhood elicited these thoughts in me: textures, patterns, shadows, clarity. They don't necessarily seem to have much in common but they encompass much about where I live, an urban neighborhood, in central Phoenix, the 5th largest city in the US. Something about them all, the ordered-ness maybe, provide comfort and calmness. We have nature but we have urban elements, too.
The 5 photos that I chose from the contemplative walk around my neighborhood elicited these thoughts in me: textures, patterns, shadows, clarity. They don't necessarily seem to have much in common but they encompass much about where I live, an urban neighborhood, in central Phoenix, the 5th largest city in the US. Something about them all, the ordered-ness maybe, provide comfort and calmness. We have nature but we have urban elements, too.
My #Art and #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for today’s (5/18/22) Gospel reading…
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. HE takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does HE prunes so that it bears more fruit.” from John 15:1-8
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Become part of MY vine and you will bear much fruit for the Kingdom. Let me prune away all the vices that will only pull you away from ME and fill you with the fruits (virtues) of the Holy Spirit.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Stay close to HIM and be grafted into HIS Vine…
Allow HIM to prune away all the vices that are detrimental to my spiritual life…
Be fruitful for HIS Kingdom…
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, may I be one with YOU in all that I say and do. Draw me close that I may glorify YOU and bear fruit for YOUR Kingdom. Inflame my heart with YOUR Love and remove from it anything that would make me ineffective or unfruitful in Loving and serving YOU as my All."

My #Art and #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for today’s (5/1/22) Gospel reading…
“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would Love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you…” from John 15:18-21
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Love God and Not the world! Our existence in the world is only temporary. Our soul’s existence is for Ever and I want to Love God and be with God for Ever in heaven!
HE has chosen me out of the world, my world of darkness and sin, and I will for Ever be grateful for that. That is Grace! God knew my heart even before I did, thank you God…
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Stay close to God in HIS Word and Sacraments and do Not allow the world and the evil one to pull my back down.
Remind myself, I Belong to HIM, and I am a beloved daughter of God.
HE Chose me to be in HIS Kingdom!!!
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, may the fire of Your LOVE fill my heart with an eagerness to please You in all things. May there be no rivals to my LOVE and devotion to You who are my all."

My #Art and #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for today’s (1/22/23) readings from Matthew 4:12-23 & Psalm 27
“…the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death #light has arisen.” Matthew 4:16
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?” Psalm 27
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Jesus came for the people who sat in darkness, and HE is the great light for us to turn to. Each person who was called by HIM left they were doing and followed HIM at once.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
Jesus is my light! Continue to turn to HIM daily as my light. HE has called me out of my darkness and into HIS wonderful light! Remember the darkness I was once in before turning to HIM, and be thankful each day for having the grace to turn to HIM and have HIM in my life.
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, YOUR ways are life and light! Let YOUR Word penetrate my heart and transform my mind that I may see YOUR power and glory. Help me to choose YOUR ways and to do what is pleasing to YOU."

My #Art and #LECTIODIVINA Reflection for today’s (2/26/23) Gospel reading - Matthew 4:1-11
“…Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil…” Matthew 4:1
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Jesus was tempted by the devil, just as we are tempted, by pride, possessions, and pleasures. HE is our example of how to stay strong and subvert the evil one.
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Focus on every Word that comes from God, read scripture daily and Listen to HIM.
- Do not put the Lord to the test, Trust and Follow.
- Worship and serve HIM, Obedience and Love.
- Remember to call on the Holy Spirit for guidance in time of weakness.
PRAYER
"Lord Jesus, YOUR word is life and joy for me. Fill me with YOUR Holy Spirit that I may have the strength and courage to embrace YOUR will in all things and to renounce whatever is contrary to it."

“You are the salt of the earth and LIGHT of the world…” from Matthew 5:13-16
WHAT IS THE LORD PERSONALLY SAYING TO ME?
Be a good Christian, by following my example, and doing good for others. Then your LIGHT will shine for all to see, and you will be “glorifying me, your Heavenly Father.”
WHAT DOES THE LORD PERSONALLY WANT ME TO DO?
- Glorify God, each day, by thinking of others and performing good deeds.
- Let my LIGHT shine – All for the glory of God.
- Be a good Christian witness, for God’s glory, and not my own.
PRAYER
Lord, help me to shine YOUR LIGHT in this dark world. Help me to be the Salt of the earth, the LIGHT of the world, YOUR Hands and Feet. Help me to be a good #Christian witness all for YOUR glory and not my own.
