While exploring the Lofoten, North Norway, we found this spot and stayed for a few days. The campsite was very spacious with only a few guests but excellent facilities. We used it to do our laundry, as we often had no opportunity to stay at a campsite along our route, but simply parked off the beaten track in the countryside. This wasn't a problem in these sparsely populated areas. We got our water in canisters from petrol stations.
I took the photo in 1977 with an analogue Asahi Pentax SP II (M42) camera and slide film, then digitalised by using a a Nikon Coolscan film scanner and further edited in Photoshop Lightroom.

A very common sight for high rise flats in the Sha Tin district on mainland Hong Kong. The family laundry is put out to dry on a rack mounted on the outside wall.
The humidity was 95% and would have taken much longer to dry that in Australia where our humidity is much lower. For instance today's humidity is 8% in Adelaide.
I spent 4 days there on a mini reunion with my school friends, reconnecting in person after 39 years. We had a fabulous time and I took lots and lots of photos for Flickr purposes.
To those who have expressed worry for my wellbeing, these pictures were taken naclk in 2018, well before the current protest situation.

Someone forgot to watch the weather forecast this morning! One more clothesline photo that I always look for. This one was in Canakkale, Turkey.
Beelitz Heilstätten
Das 1902 fertiggestellte Gebäude der Wäscherei befand sich wegen der strengen Geschlechtertrennung auf dem Gelände der Lungenheilstätte für Frauen. Dort wurde die Wäsche aus den 4 Pavillons und dem Desinfektionsgebäude nach dem Einweichen 30 Minuten lang in den 4 elektrisch betriebenen Dampfwasch- und Spülmaschinen unter Zusatz von Seife und Soda gekocht und dann mit kaltem Wasser nachgespült. Schließlich wurde die Wäsche in speziellen Zentrifugaltrockenmaschinen getrocknet und in einer großen Dampfmangel geglättet.
The laundry building, completed in 1902, was located on the site of the women's lung sanatorium due to strict gender segregation. There, after soaking, the laundry from the 4 pavilions and the disinfection building was cooked for 30 minutes in the 4 electrically operated steam and flush washing machines with the addition of soap and soda and then rinsed with cold water. Finally, the laundry was dried in special centrifugal drying machines and flattened in a large mangle.

In the slums of Mumbai there is a big laundry called Dhobi Ghat. The hotels also have their laundy done there. It is Sunday, so not all the basins are being used. It doesn't look so clean and healthy.
The people there are working very hard for little money.
