Estas tres son parte de mis cámaras analógicas. Son las tres marías. Las cámaras con las que aprendí fotografía. Con las que gané algún concurso fotográfico, no porque yo fuese bueno sino porque los otros eran peores. Fui monitor de fotografía del Ayuntamiento de Vigo gracias a ellas. La primera, la Yashica electro 35 telemétrica es la cámara que más quiero. Silenciosa, discreta, incomparable, caprichosa. Medía muy bien la luz y el enfoque era maravilloso, manual, sencillo... Nunca me ha dejado tirado, desde ektachrome y velvias a carretes kodak de iso 1600 y 3200. ¿Velocidad? No, ella no pasa de 1/500 y ni falta le hace. Yo era el zoom. Me acercaba o alejaba dependiendo de lo que quería fotografiar.
La Yashica FX3 es de mi pareja, con un fotómetro caprichoso que hace lo que quiere y lo que le apetece en cada momento. Es especial.
La tercera maría es mi Minolta. Nunca le pude vestir de manera adecuada, y me tiré 10 años tan sólo con el 50 mm. Nunca se quejó por ello. A veces me prestaban un 70-210 y con el y unos amigos nos metíamos en unos hides para fotografiar fauna; a veces estabamos 3y 4 horas con el agua por la cintura para fotografiar unos nidos de focha y nunca se quejó de humedad.
Todas funcionan; poco pero a veces salen a la calle a respirar y a gastar unos carretes. Me sigue pasando lo mismo: espero con ilusión los resultados, ya madurados porque las cosas buenas necesitan un tiempo.
Revisando mis fotos actuales veo mediocridad y vacío, no comunican; no he evolucionado nada desde que usaba las tres marías. igo enfocando y componiendo como antes, no recorto, y lo que sale en la foto es porque estaba, para lo bueno y lo malo. Lo más triste es que los comentarios actuales de algún foro no dicen nada de ello, si no “está quemada”, “tienes cielo para mejorarla”, “yo clonaría el fondo”; no sé, espero empezar ahora a hacer otro tipo de fotografía, mas comunicativa y menos técnica.

Jenni and I flew into Las Vegas for our autumn vacation in Arizona, and I had the chance to meet Allen "Roadsidepictures". I left the rental car with Jenni one afternoon (but not the keys!), and Allen gave me a terrific tour of the city with fascinating commentary the whole way. Allen's a walking encyclopedia of Las Vegas history. I'm both fascinated and repelled by the city, so I wondered what he thought about the place. His answer surprised me only a little. "I hate it," he said.
