The Canary Islands Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus canariensis) is a small leaf warbler endemic to the Canary Islands. Local residents often call it the "mosquitero" because of its active habit of hunting insects.
Appearance and Voice
This bird is roughly 10–11 cm long and resembles the common chiffchaff but has a longer bill, shorter wings, and a longer tail.
Coloration:
It features brownish-green upperparts, buffy-yellow underparts, and a prominent long eyebrow (supercilium).
Song:
Its voice is similar to the common chiffchaff but faster and more "explosive". Palmeros on La Palma sometimes call it "chivi-chivi" after its distinctive song.
Behavior and Diet
Unlike its migratory relatives, this species is sedentary, staying on the islands year-round.
Feeding:
Primarily an insectivore, it hunts by flitting through foliage or hovering to catch prey.
Nectarivory:
Unusually for a warbler, it frequently feeds on the nectar of endemic Canary plants like the Canary bellflower, acting as an important pollinator.
Habitat and Subspecies
The species occupies nearly every habitat from coastal gardens and urban parks to pine forests above 2,000 meters.
P. c. canariensis:
The "Western" subspecies, found on Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro.
P. c. exsul:
The "Eastern" subspecies (Lanzarote chiffchaff), which is now considered extinct, with no reliable records since the late 20th century.
Nesting
It breeds between January and July. The female builds an oven-shaped nest (ball-like with a side entrance) from dry grass and moss, often hidden in trees, palms, or bushes. This shape has earned it the nickname "hornero" (oven-maker) on some islands.

Las Cuevas es una localidad del departamento Las Heras, Mendoza, situada en la cordillera de los Andes, próxima al límite internacional con Chile. En el año 2018 el distrito de Las Cuevas, Penitentes y Uspallata fueron fusionados en uno solo llamado en la actualidad Uspallata y Alta Montaña.
Es la más elevada de la provincia a una altitud de 3.557 msnm y la situada más hacia el oeste.

Los últimos colores del atardecer se reflejan en la característica fachada de cristal del Edificio La Vela, sede del Banco BBVA.
Al fondo, la silueta de parte de la Sierra de Guadarrama ofrece un marco inmejorable. Si miras con atención, encima de las letras verdes de El Corte Inglés, podrás ver las luces del Alto del León, situado a unos 48 kilómetros en línea recta desde este punto de la capital.

Located in El Bierzo, in the northwest of the Aquilanos Mountains, and next to the Valley of the Sil River, The Médulas is an outstanding Spanish landscape complex that came to be as a result of Roman gold mining works.
Just south of Las Vegas, Nevada is this range of mountains. The tallest peak in the distance is called Black Mountain, but the lesser peak in front of it with all the radio towers is also apparently called Black Mountain. The smaller range to the left in the background is called Black Hill. Don't ask me, I didn't come up with this crap.

Las vi en una casa en ruinas del centro de Aguilar de Campoo, y me llamaron la atención inmediatamente. Al fondo, se ve el airoso castillo de este bonito pueblo castellano.

Las Sigueras ("The Rope Girls") is a sculpture that pays tribute to the women who used ropes to pull ships along the Nervion river, Bilbao, in the mid 19th century.
Originally, this was a man's work, but during the Spanish Carlist Wars, men were away fighting so women performed these arduous tasks to support themselves and their families. Incredibly, this was more economic than hiring oxen for the task.
