A memorable evening at La Caleta/Lanzarote island between golden and blue hour.

📍 Arrecife, Lanzarote
Rust in peace...
I had been here before six years ago. Since my last visit, a cordon of red buoys have been strung around the wreck with a small dingy sat inside it (which I removed in post)
Getting the exposure right for shot was a little tricky due to the dark hull and bright sky with the sun behind and just out of frame to the left. A large cloud behind me helped though - acting as a reflector.

📍 Los Hervideros, Lanzarote
Wish you were here?... Stood where the person is? (please forgive the long description. It's meant as a diary for me as much as info for you :) )
While on my two-week holiday in Lanzarote, I scheduled an evening visit to Los Hervideros, when the tide was high and the waves were at their biggest.
When I arrived, the large car park was closed for a reason I couldn't quite understand. This meant that the road was chock-a-block with cars & camper vans. I had to take care to compose them out of the frame. A longer focal length helped with this, and it was something I had planned on to give adequate height to the volcanos - particularly the nearest, Volcan Bermeja.
Although not monster waves, I really got a sense of the power of the ocean here - as the surging water roared through the cave network.
Much like my trip to El Golfo (a previous post), the notorious Lanzarote winds proved troublesome. This time, offshore winds drove sea spray back onto my filter and buffeted the camera head-on. So I couldn't shelter it without being in shot myself. Of the 500 exposures I took, this was one of the sharpest combined with an interesting wave form.
Although I hoped for sunset colours, it didn't happen due to low cloud on the horizon... as it hadn't throughout my stay! I began shooting early, which was a good call as the best of the light about a full hour before sunset. While I was set up, the light came and went with the passing clouds, so I picked my moments.
As expected, those pesky tourists were everywhere (wait... I was one too!), so a little tidying was required in post. I left in the one person on the cliffside though, to ad a sense of scale.

📍 La Geria, Lanzarote
Lanzarote's "La Geria" vineyard with it's vines hunkered down in pits as protection from the island's notorious winds...
I knew of this place from photos I'd seen. Photos of "Instagram influencers" walking through among the vines.
Our first full day was spent visiting Teguise Market. On the way back to Playa Blanca (on the LZ-30), we drove through these vineyards. I was inspired to return the very next morning.
When I arrived, it felt morally wrong to roam a working vineyard for a photo. I had also googled Spanish Law the night before... Trespassing in the UK is a minor civil offence, but in Spain it can carry up to a six month prison sentence. So roadside shots it was! (Later I'll post an image shot from a path.)
I hoped to catch the rising sun painting the volcanos and vineyards in warm light. It wasn't to be. This was my first morning shoot of the holiday... I soon found that weather forecasts were never correct! At least I had a little colour in the sky...

This causeway connects Arrecife to Castillo San Gabriel, the old fortification that guarded the harbor mostly from pirates. The old drawbridge could be raised from the castle side of the causeway to prevent a land attack. To the right you can see the bell tower of Iglesia de San Ginés. Today there are a couple of small beaches and quays that allow access to the waters around the castle and causeways so that swimmers can enjoy the lovely water.
Mirador del Río is a viewpoint situated on an approximately 475 meters high escarpment called Batería del Río in the very north of the Canarian island of Lanzarote.
The location was created in 1974 by the local artist César Manrique in his typical style, consisting of a balustraded cafe, a souvenir shop and a platform on its top which are integrated in the lava rock.
Mirador der Río provides a stunning view over the strait of "Río" (naming the viewpoint) towards the archaic island of La Graciosa.
From here guards watched for secretly landing ships in former times. Its interiors and balcony areas were used as a location for the BBC television programme Doctor Who's serial, Planet of Fire, representing an alien planet and culture.

Lanzarote, a Spanish island, is the easternmost of the autonomous Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 125 km off the coast of Africa and 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula. Covering 845.9 km2, it stands as the fourth largest of the islands. The first recorded name for the island, given by Angelino Dulcert, was Insula de Lanzarotus Marocelus, after the Genoese navigator Lancelotto Malocello, from which the modern name is derived. The island's name in the native language was Titerro(y)gatra, which may mean "the red mountains".
Lanzarote is situated at 29°00' north, 13°40' west. It is located 11 km north-east of Fuerteventura and 1 mile from Graciosa. The dimensions of the island are 60 km from north to south and 25 km from west to east. Lanzarote has 213 km of coastline, of which 10 km are sand, 16.5 km are beach, and the remainder are rocky. Its dramatic landscape includes the mountain ranges of Famara (671 m)[1] in the north and Ajaches (608 m) to the south. South of the Famara massif is the El Jable desert which separates Famara and Montañas del Fuego.
The mountainous area of Lanzarote is called Timanfaya National Park. The tallest mountain is Peñas del Chache elevating 670 m above sea level. The "Tunnel of Atlantis" is the largest submerged volcanic tunnel in the world. Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary Islands and has volcanic origin. It was born out of fiery eruptions and has solidified lava streams as well as extravagant rock formations.

Timanfaya National Park or Parque Nacional de Timanfaya is a Spanish national park covering the municipalities of southern portion of Tinajo and the northern portion of Yaiza in the southwestern part of the island of Lanzarote. The area is 51.07 square kilometres (19.72 sq mi). The parkland is entirely made up of volcanic soil. The statue "El Diablo" by César Manrique is its symbol.
The greatest recorded eruptions occurred between 1730 and 1736. The volcanic activity continues as the surface temperature in the core ranges from 100 to 600 °C at the depth of 13 metres (43 ft), which is demonstrated by pouring water into the ground, resulting in a geyser of steam which is an attraction for tourists. There is only one active volcano, Timanfaya volcano which the park is named after.
In 1993, UNESCO designated a Biosphere reserve covering the whole of Lanzarote. The national park is one of the core areas of the biosphere reserve.
Access to the park by the public is strictly regulated to protect the delicate flora and fauna. There are one or two footpaths, and a popular short route where one can visit by camel. There is a public car park from which one can tour the volcanic landscape by coach using a road that is otherwise closed to the public.

Cueva de los Verdes (Spanish for "Greens' cave", because in the past its owners were the "Verdes" family) is a lava tube located in the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands (Spain).
The cave is a protected area of the Canary Islands. The cave was created around 3,000 years ago from a volcanic eruption in La Corona. An enormous lava stream flowed over the Malpaís de la Corona. For a long time, the lava stream flowed which left the top part to become a cave.
In about 20 spots, the cover of the cave collapsed and formed. Cueva de los Verdes is formed from parts of the volcanic soils and extends from 1 km to 6 kilometres of old lava streams. The streams are the second longest in the world.
In earlier centuries, inhabitants throughout Lanzarote hid in this cave to protect themselves from pirates. Two kilometres, altogether seven kilometres of the cave system are developed.
The cave walls are colorful. The seats in the concert has about 15 to 20 rows and has 13 seats in two parts totaling 26. The concert can hold up to about 500 people. Parts of the cave are deep. Parts of the caves are covered with sea water.
The cave is famous for its concert hall which is located near the entrance and the exit of the cave.
