Emergence Enchanted is an international art show exhibiting an assortment of artists who engage the curiosities of science, and dialogue with its worlds in unique ways. Inspired by the first appearance of the TED Conference in Long Beach, CA, this February, the exhibition recognizes the bridge between art and science and this rare opportunity for inspiring dialogue. Work by 20 cutting edge artists of established and emerging stars, will be contained within the spaces of The Pike. This exhibition combines a selection of artworks including paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photographs and video, as well as an exciting program of special performances.
The arts explore the liminal spaces that science is still unable to quantify, the various subjective explorations of human experience. Through unraveling and indexing of subjective inquiries in a shared reality, artists can inform scientific investigation with their most powerful tool: imagination. Intuitively, many artists look to science as a way of informing their practices. They revel in its mysteries, explanations and abstract theories. This sort of cross-pollination can bear curious fruit and the function of this exhibition is to examine a range of artists working in this way.
Emergence Enchanted offers up more then the sum of its parts. It will be a vital source for art, science and technology lovers, allowing them to discover new developments in contemporary art

ARTIST BIO_Gisele's most recent paintings have been described as using calming color, fluid and organic shapes but also utilizing a contrast of paint techniques that create a beautiful tension. Currently residing in Long Beach, CA with her husband, 2 step children and dog Lux, she has made a space for a studio at home that's also just a quick drive to the beach. Spending summers on a lake in Maine, a farm in New England, retreats in Montana and local deserts, the need for connection to nature is imprinted on her mind and spirit. Living in the LA area with 9 million people, the coast has been her respite and muse. She received a BFA from CSULB in 1989 and six years later received a MFA in Drawing & Painting from CSUF. Works have shown in local area galleries and museum as well as WA, MT and NH, reviews of her work in Long Beach Press Telegram and Grunion Gazette.
ARTIST STATEMENT_Biophilia- our genetic programming for the love of nature, not just for food and shelter, but peace of mind, is one level of narrative found in my work. Working from three dimensional objects, two dimensional photos and memory from time spent in nature, contributes to the complexity of imagery. The work starts in a more intuitive manner, a struggle emerges, and a surprise appears, resulting in a complex experience for both myself and the viewer. Working with multiple techniques, real and abstract form, add to the complexity and keeps the image active and the viewer involved. Layering technique and narrative, I hope to create a new environment in which the viewer may lose themselves as I do while creating.

Through this exhibition, Project FOCUS will be fundraising for a sustainable development initiative in rural Lyantonde, Uganda.
Project FOCUS, founded in 2006, is a grass-roots initiative of artists, writers, activists, young professionals, and students bound by a common purpose: to educate, inspire, and empower local communities in Southwestern Uganda and the United States. Our work in Uganda extends beyond material support and touches upon the human need to share and reflect on personal experiences with others. Through creative collaboration, personal narratives and exhibition, we hope to support community-initiated programs, actively combat social apathy, and reveal the common humanity within two seemingly different worlds.
