At about 4pm Lizzie turned to me and said "oo how bout we go to the cemetery with a load of tea candles to that labyrinth thing and take some photos...". Naturally I said yes! Crazy missions are always a good idea.
So after a trip to "The Warehouse" for some supplies (a search for 25 candles that turned into a grab for 200) we ventured off in seach of the cemetery. Our shoot started about 10pm with around 30 minutes spent counting, setting and lighting our stash of tea candles. The next two hours were spent shooting a total of 50 minutes open shutter time on our two Nikon cameras (D70 and D60).
Poor EJ! You almost froze out there! Hot tea, crumpets, hot water bottles and a heater came the the rescue afterwards.

Word labyrinths are a way for me to combine a particular potent bit of wisdom and/or insight with the archetypal image of a labyrinth; such conveys that our thoughts and wisdom do, indeed, lead us forward upon meandering pathways out into the world, in ways seen and unseen.
This word labyrinth is based on quote by Rumi
Day thirty-nine/365. A labyrinth is a tool that people can use for prayer and meditation. Always set up in a spiral shape, it can be a pattern on the ground, marked by bricks, stone, or other materials. The one I found today features an adjacent prayer path through the woods, an integral part of the labyrinth experience. At the start of the trail were suggested verses from Scripture and suggested ways to use the stations of the labyrinth and the prayer path, here marked by crosses mounted on trees. I had gone to a church of another denomination, simply to meet with a colleague, never intending to walk the labyrinth. But, I know I'll be going back again, not planning to meet with my colleague! I took many pictures, since that's part of my spiritual discipline. But, I chose this one for Project 365 because in it, you can see two stations.

FINGER LABYRINTH is a 4 circuit portable, personal labyrinth sculpture that resembles carved plaster. Each finger labyrinth will be made to order and based on the purchaser's selection of a base color.
Each finger labyrinth pattern is based on a 4 circuit circular labyrinth measuring 9 inches in diameter & approximately 1.25 inches in height. The foundation of this piece is a styrofoam disc with a built-up path made of air dry clay. The foundation is then paper mached and/or filled in with paper clay for durability & to make the surface resemble plaster. It is painted with white acrylic paint with base color peeking through peeking through the crackled surface. The surface is then finished with a protective coating that make the path smooth & durable.
It feels very solid, like a wooden finger labyrinth, but is lightweight like a plastic one. The texture is smooth and comfortable and resembles a ceramic piece. Each labyrinth comes with a hole to hang on the wall when not in use, but it also can be propped against an easel or a books.
It is a piece of art as well as a spiritual or healing tool! As a tool a labyrinth is meant to be "walked" with the finger as a form of mediation. Finger labyrinths are portable versions of a walking labyrinth, so my labyrinths are made for people to be able to have the benefits of a labyrinth in constrained contexts!
