Oberlin’s annual celebration of black creativity features the Kuumba Week Film Festival. The first film of the festival was "The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)."
In this film, Jimmie Fails dreams of reclaiming the Victorian home his grandfather built in the heart of San Francisco. Joined on his quest by his best friend, Jimmie searches for belonging in a rapidly changing city that seems to have left them behind. The film also stars noted actor and activist Danny Glover. Oberlin Professor of Studio Art and Africana Studies Johnny Coleman interviewed Glover immediately after the film.

Leo, Nawaonya hivi kwa ajili ya kupona kwenu wenyewe, ili kazi Yangu iendelee vizuri, na ili kazi Yangu ya uzinduzi kote ulimwenguni iweze kufanyika kwa njia inayofaa na kikamilifu, ikifichua maneno Yangu, mamlaka, adhama na hukumu kwa watu wa nchi zote na mataifa. Kazi Ninayoifanya miongoni mwenu ni mwanzo wa kazi Yangu katika ulimwengu wote. Ingawa sasa ni siku za mwisho tayari, jua kwamba “siku za mwisho” ni jina tu la enzi: Kama tu vile Enzi ya Sheria na Enzi ya Neema, linaashiria enzi, na linaashiria enzi nzima, badala ya mwisho wa miaka au miezi michache. Hata hivyo siku za mwisho ni tofauti kabisa na Enzi ya Neema na Enzi ya Sheria. Matokeo yake ni kwamba kazi ya siku za mwisho haiwezi kuwa kama miaka elfu kadhaa ya kazi katika Israeli, wala haiwezi kuwa kama ile miaka kadhaa tu ya kazi katika Yuda ambayo iliendelea kwa milenia mbili mpaka kupata mwili kwa mara ya pili kwa Mungu katika mwili. Watu wa siku za mwisho hukutana tu na kuonekana tena kwa Mkombozi katika mwili, na kupokea kazi binafsi na maneno ya Mungu. Haitakuwa miaka elfu mbili kabla ya siku za mwisho hazijafika ukingoni; zi fupi, kama wakati ambao Yesu alifanya kazi ya Enzi ya Neema katika Yuda. Hii ni kwa sababu siku za mwisho ni hitimisho la nyakati nzima. Ni ukamilisho na tamatisho la mpango wa miaka elfu sita wa usimamizi wa Mungu, na kuhitimisha safari ya maisha ya mateso ya mwanadamu. Hazichukui binadamu wote hadi katika enzi mpya au kuruhusu maisha ya mwanadamu kuendelea. Hiyo haitakuwa na umuhimu wowote kwa ajili ya mpango Wangu wa usimamizi au kuwepo kwa mwanadamu. Kama mwanadamu angeendelea kwa namna hii, basi hivi karibuni wao wangeangamizwa kabisa na ibilisi, na zile nafsi za wale walio Wangu hatimaye zingetwaliwa na mikono yake. WILMINGTON, Del., (Tuesday, October 15, 2013) – Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn and Department of Education Secretary Mark Murphy announced the 2013 winners of the state’s Reward and Recognition School Awards, known informally as the state's Academic Achievement Awards. The announcements were made today in three separate press conferences, one in each county to honor the winners. Lt. Governor Denn and Secretary Murphy were joined by the 29 principals and 13 superintendents of the winning schools, along with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and representatives from the State Board of Education and DSEA.
These awards, which carry a $50,000 prize for each school, were created by legislation spearheaded by the Lt. Governor and passed by the Delaware General Assembly in 2009. This year, there are 2 Reward and 15 Recognition schools that will receive $50,000 each. Funding for the awards comes from the state's Race to the Top grant. Additionally, there are 12 Schools of Continued Excellence which won Academic Achievement Awards last year and had outstanding performance again this year, but are not eligible for a financial award again until 2014.

There are seven Kwanzaa candles - three red, a black, and three green.
The black candle is a celebration of being black, of the unique and special qualities each person brings to the whole family or community. It is a candle of the present, of today.
The green candles are vision candles - candles of hopes, dreams, and promises for the future.
The red candles are struggle candles, past candles, candles the color of blood, candles the color of courage.
All seven candles help African Americans to remember a long struggle against injustice, against unfairness, and to promise each other that they will continue to work together against injustice.
Each day, a different candle is lit:
The first symbolizes Umoja (unity).
The second is for Kujichagulia (self-determination).
The third symbolizes Ujima (collective work and responsibility).
The fourth symbolizes Ujamaa (cooperative economics).
The fifth is for Nia (purpose).
The sixth symbolizes Kuumba (creativity).
The seventh is for Imani (faith).
A few of the works of artist Mshindo I. Kuumba. He was at the 4th Annual Black Comic Book Festival, held at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on January 16, 2016 in New York City.
WILMINGTON, Del., (Tuesday, October 15, 2013) – Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn and Department of Education Secretary Mark Murphy announced the 2013 winners of the state’s Reward and Recognition School Awards, known informally as the state's Academic Achievement Awards. The announcements were made today in three separate press conferences, one in each county to honor the winners. Lt. Governor Denn and Secretary Murphy were joined by the 29 principals and 13 superintendents of the winning schools, along with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and representatives from the State Board of Education and DSEA.
These awards, which carry a $50,000 prize for each school, were created by legislation spearheaded by the Lt. Governor and passed by the Delaware General Assembly in 2009. This year, there are 2 Reward and 15 Recognition schools that will receive $50,000 each. Funding for the awards comes from the state's Race to the Top grant. Additionally, there are 12 Schools of Continued Excellence which won Academic Achievement Awards last year and had outstanding performance again this year, but are not eligible for a financial award again until 2014.
