"Beas river rises in the Himalayas in central Himachal Pradesh and flows for some 290 miles to the Sutlej River in western Punjab state. The river was also known as Arjiki or Vipas to the ancient Indians and the Hyphasis to the Ancient Greeks.
The present name Beas is thought to be a corruption of the word Vyas, the name of Veda Vyasa, the author of the great Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. It marks the eastern-most border of Alexander the Great's conquests in 326 BC."
the river stream is ideal for water sports and a must visit for all adventurers

I love this image for its sheer vividness in capturing the essence of camping under a starry night , whilst out on my recent trek with buddies Vishal Bhopal and Atul Sehgal . When you are at the back of beyond , this is how nature presents itself to a seeker.Nothing really in this world can compare with such moments. With the passage of time, this image will surely serve as a
fond memory of our trek . And lastly dont miss viewing the milky way in the night sky.
The yellow tent is mine.

Tibetan prayer wheels are devices for spreading spiritual blessings and well being.
On the wheel are prayers, mantras and symbols are inscribed,
Buddhists believe that by spinning the prayer wheel and chanting the mantra invokes the powerful benevolent attention and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion.
DEO TIBBA , THE MOUNTAIN OF THE GODS- 6001m
This peak is located on the Pir Panjal range , Western Himalayas near Manali.
The imposing bulk of the dome shaped peak is seen bathed in an Alpen glow.
Alpenglow is an optical phenomenon. When the Sun is just below the horizon, a horizontal red glowing band can sometimes be observed on the opposite horizon.
Since the Sun is below the horizon, there is no direct path for the light to reach the mountain. Instead, light reflects off airborne snow, water, or ice particles low in the atmosphere. It is this circumstance that separates a normal sunrise or sunset from alpen glow.
Although the term may be loosely applied to any sunrise or sunset light seen on the mountains, true alpen glow is not direct sunlight and is only observed after sunset or before sunrise.
EARLY MOUNTAINEERING HISTORY
In the main Kullu zone, east of upper Beas Valley,Indrasan and Deo Tibba were always the prime targets.J.O.M Roberts attempted to close on them in 1939 , so did the R.C Evans party in 1952. Later in 1952 the Dutchman Van Graaf climbed Deo Tibba

The Clearing.....
After spending a better part of the year chasing storms and lightning I was now looking forward for a shoot under fair weather and deep blue skies.Oct is normally associated with such weather as the monsoons have retreated from the Sub continent. Saturated blue skies , interspersed with some puffy clouds are the flavor of the month and have their own charm.
So I decided to trek up to this vantage, with fair weather in mind. It was past noon when I arrived here. And a good time, to grab some homemade, packed lunch. My eyes were occasionally checking out the skies for any signs of a drama. And then I thought I heard a faint sound. Was not sure , but it sounded like thunder. A thunder ….during Oct..? I must be hallucinating..! Lunch over, I decided to hike up for a better view of the vale down below. Another one…and a big loud roar it was. A little confusion besetting my mind now.Things were changing way too rapidly. Was it really Oct…?
An unmistakable storm front had formed over north of Kullu. Cold, intense winds threatening to knock out my tripod were raging across the high ground. Unable to bear the cold, I pulled out my jacket and cap Balaklava. So here I was ….caught in the midst of a thunderstorm…it was absolutely incredible. ..! Instinctively I was in a storm chasing mode. Conditions so familiar, that it was like my own turf.
Iam pleased to share the last stage of a raging thunderstorm….” The Clearing”. Those of you who have read so far…can you spot a faint rainbow in the left ,central part of the frame..?
Iam back home after a 4 day trek with my buddies Vishal Bhopal and Atul Sehgal. The sights were unforgettable and timeless. Our tents were literally pitched on the very edge of the ridge. Dangerous yet exciting...!The location of our tents and the fierce winds blowing over the ridge completely freaked us out....! One wrong step ...and one could have fallen a few thousand feet into floor of the valley.A starry night and the mountain mist made up for an indelible nite at the camp site.
Hanuman Tibba ( 5892m ) - The highest peak of Dhauladhar range.
Also konwn as Solang Weissorn , it was first scaled in 1912 (exactly a century ago) by Gen C .G Bruce's chief swiss guide - Henrich Fuhrer and a gurkha soldier Lal Bahadur. This party and their english employers also made the first exploratory ventures towards Indrasan ( then nameless ) and Deo Tibba. Hanuman Tibba was not climbed again until 1966 (Joint Indo -British expedition under R.G Petigrew.)
Pleased to share this image with all astro buffs and star gazers. This image was made during my recent trek. The weather had completely packed up , with no signs of clearing. I was in a real gloomy mood inside my tent.I had this urge to go out and have a drag around 9 PM. Who said diamonds are found only on earth..i saw them scattered across the sky , as i stepped out of my tent..into the crisp , cold, rarefied mountain air, ...and as if to add to the beauty, the woolly mist rolled in out of nowhere ...and enveloped the valley in an affectionate hug...much like a mother hugging her new born child in winter ...i was only a privileged spectator...and blessed too..for it was ordained for me to witness the sublime union ...and so i thanked the stars of my existence that they allowed me the honor of this gentle and encompassing spectacle...i am blessed in ways that elude the ordinary mortals ...such are the honors and pleasures that life bestows upon me.I witnessed one of the finest moments in nature and captured in 4 shots, a panorama of a star studded night and mist gently rolling over the mountain tops and ridges.
