I didn't know it was an actual meteorological term.
Drizzle is a light precipitation consisting of liquid water drops smaller than those of rain – generally smaller than 0.5 mm (0.02 in) in diameter. Drizzle is normally produced by low stratiform clouds and stratocumulus clouds.
Owing to the small size of drizzle drops, under many circumstances drizzle largely evaporates before reaching the surface and so may be undetected by observers on the ground. The METAR code for drizzle is DZ and for freezing drizzle is FZDZ.

A misty drizzle. The term is commonly used in Devon and Cornwall to describe a mixture of fine drizzle and thick, saturating mist or fog. Although mizzle might seem like a clever portmanteau combining mist and drizzle, it likely derives from the Low German miseln or Dutch word for drizzle, miezelen.

I succumbed to a moment of nostalgic weakness and perused my archives. Given my complete lack of organizational know-how, matched only by my supreme hoarding skills (this, by the way, is a recipe for disaster), I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem languishing there. I was even more impressed by the fact that, apparently, I had already done most of the processing on this. I began to ponder what made me abandon those efforts in favour of whatever else I ended up doing. Was it the Instant Pot and my quest for the perfect Hungarian Goulash recipe? Who knows and who really cares. (It did end up tasting delicious, however).
So, I am sharing with you now the female Downy as she does her best Nuthatch impression. Actually, she needs to rotate some more, but not bad for a first try. Just as a point of interest, I am proud to report that no canoe was involved here to move myself into position to obtain the best possible perspective and light on the iris. The reason I mention a canoe is that I have found that some of the best iris shots I have ever seen were taken from the vantage point of a canoe (Jerome). So I did some research and I found that a canoe can indeed be quite instrumental in navigating to the position required for a perfect iris shot. As my mind drifts off to ponder the possibilities of this, I quickly realize that my circumstances up here differ somewhat drastically from Jerome’s . For one thing, there is no bayou in this area and I do appreciate that a canoe is best used on water. Yes, we do have some lakes that might do the job but I don’t think they would really function as adequate stand-ins for the bayou. I would also have to acquire a trailer and permit to transport the canoe but then I’d need some practice backing up with the trailer … the more I contemplate this, the more I discover the difficulties with this plan. Of course, I could just plant the canoe in the yard and use it as a stationary structure to take my shots from. But the sun does travel during the day which would require me to push/pull/drag the canoe to the most advantageous spot, given the time of day. How likely am I to do that? Right, … not! I could invest in multiple canoes and position them strategically in the yard to solve the placement variation quandary. But wait, wait … wait! I realized quickly when I knew I should I already have something that works quite nicely for me without having to invest in a pelican box. Yes, you got it … The Adirondack. Much more easily positioned in my location of choice – I actually have two, which simplifies matters even further. True, it’s not as exotic as a canoe but really we are after results here and not the actual journey. And another benefit is that it’s much easier to sip a Krombacher in the Adirondack and maintain my balance and a semblance of decorum, especially if it’s more than one during the course of the day. And … I don’t have to leave the premises …

Part of the grounds of the Mannesmannhaus this cute barn was a favorite of mine and with the leading lines all laid out from me it was hard not capture this image.
The Bergische Land where this style of barn comes from is another place that was hard to make a living agriculturally the rain in the area is extremely high with lots of irregular rocky terrain in the high ground and swampy river and marshes in the low valley areas left little that could be farmed.
Because of the lack of good farmland many areas have hamlets or small clusters of houses of 20 or more that would group together for protection and community but would not support large scale growth beyond its current level into villages.
Once again due to terrible farming conditions necessity dictated that the people became great at other venture in this case livestock farmers and in later life the backbone of the industrial revolution as metal workers, factory workers and miners.
I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm 1/25, f/11 ISO 100 processed in LR, Topaz Denoise, PS (Lumenzia curves masks and DXO Nik Color Efex)

You know you wait for ages to see a temperature inversion and then see three in a matter of weeks.
This was taken in the Ogwen Valley in Snowdonia. I left the car at 05.05 and got to the top of the Devil's Kitchen at 05.45 which is some going. I then spent over 90 minutes looking for my phone which I realised I had dropped while somewhere between the Glyder Fawr scree and Llyn y Cwn - I didn't find it.
Anyway, misery turned to joy when I got to witness this sight.
How come the only way to know how high you get me is to see how far I fall. God only knows how much I'd love you if you let me but I can't break through at all.
It's a heartbreak.🎶.

Just to let you all know this is not me in the photo in the background i am out of the frame on the lefthand side. He is a professional photographer i met by chance on his day off. We took some shots of this Red Bull mini which recently parked up outside this barbers and we then had a long interesting talk standing near the window. So a must for some more reflections images i said so when he started taking some i spontaneously joined in . Then this guy with his back to us waiting for a haircut suddenly turned to see this man i met taking photos, our shutters buttons both pressed as seconds later he turned back to face the next cut .

Alstroemeria, the genus named after the Swedish baron Alströmer who brought them back from a trip to South America in 1753.
Also called the Peruvian Lily or Inca Lily, is a South American genus of about 50 species of flowering plants.
The flower, which resembles a miniature lily, is very popular for bouquets and flower arrangements in the commercial cut flower trade.
They have a vase life of about two weeks.

I believe that Julia Child was referring to the cooking process being involved in imagination. However, often I am easily distracted from the task at hand.
Being in the kitchen with sliced food or small kitchen tools, I see those items as photographic subjects. I think it's good to let one's imagination run wild...within limits, I suppose. :)

I know the school of thought that you should ask a human subject for permission to take their picture, which I agree is nice for some situations, but it doesn't allow you to capture the unselfconscious ballet of human behavior. (Here, admittedly, self-consciousness is on display, but that's the charming point.) We in fact did interact before and after I shot this, and they were aware that I was there shooting them shooting each other.

As you know, Rose of Sharon's can grow quite large and tall. They tower above all the rest of the flowers in the yard and it's the same in this case. Some of our Rose of Sharon's even tower over me and I'm 6'3, which makes it difficult for pruning, but that's what ladders are for...right ?
i know i've done alot of this type of shot, but i really like them and their feeling.

I've added these images to a little album I called To A Rhythm We Will Never Know which I started back when I was a tad unwell. Reading about Sir Chris Hoy's diagnosis on top of that of his wife's MS diagnosis and their bravery at the weekend and seeing these grasses reminded me that we are just like grasses blown about by life's fortunes.
The adult Spotted Lantern Fly or Lycra deliculata (Order Hemiptera), a plant hopper accidentally introduced from Asia, and now a "quarantined" epidemiologic pest throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties, threatens the grapes, pines, stone fruits and apple trees.
I know, strange title, but it seems like the "tree creature" is talking to the ducks. I probably got up too early that morning.

Sows with cubs are known to be quite protective with their cubs. Everyone knows not to mess with a mama bear ... well except for the big boars who roam around with one thing in mind. They will do anything to get some "alone time" with the females, including kill their cubs so that they will be available. It's honestly one of the things that I fear the most when I'm out photographing the sows with cubs. I remember one day seeing a sow with 2 or 3 young spring cubs fishing a stream, then they disappeared. A while later we could hear screaming of the little ones and I feared the worse. I asked our guide if he thought the cubs were being attacked by a big boar we had also seen in the vicinity. He said no because the crying out was so prolonged. If it had been a boar attacking a cub, it would have been over long ago. We eventually found the little cubs way up in a tree ... unharmed. Whoever said only black bears climb trees?
So, this brown bear cub in the image wasn't one of those cubs, but it is another one seeking the same safety from a board in the area. Its mom sensing the danger for her cubs will send them literally scurrying up the nearest tree for safety. She will then fiercely defend against the boar. When it's safe, she will give a signal to the cubs who will shimmy on down the tree to reunite with mom.
These cubs in the trees are one of the cutest sights ever. So on alert and anxious about the frantic activity going on. They never question mom when she alerts them and promptly obey. So darned smart and adorable to watch.
Well, it's Monday again. Only 1 more after today before 2022. Yikes, where is the time going?

I know I know we didn't paint this unit into MILW heritage colors, I would have liked to see that done too but its Terry Respondek's locomotive and his decision on paint. I know these guys are everywhere in Caliornia making holes and lots of noise, but they are so cute. This guy had his foot up in a position that reminded me of the very recognizable logo on the Captain Morgan bottle.
Clown-faced western woodpecker with a complicated social structure, living in small colonies. Best known for its habit of hoarding acorns: the birds drill small holes in a dead snag, then harvest acorns in fall and store them in these holes, to be eaten during winter. Such a "granary tree" may be used for generations and may be riddled with up to 50,000 holes. Nesting is a group activity, with several adults (up to 12 or more) taking part in incubating the eggs and feeding the young in a single nest.
You know that feeling when you sense someone or something is watching you? I was going along a shore with a fairly high bank and the trees were tall. I suddenly felt that feeling and scanned quickly thinking about bears. Then I saw this guy sitting in the branch pretty much eye level with me and about four metres away! I only had time for three quick frames — no time to even look much at settings, to worry about the twigs and branched in the way, I just grabbed the shot. I’m a bit spoiled because at home these Bald Eagles are plentiful, but I don’t think I’ve been this close to one at home in the wild. He gave me a rather disdainful look, like why are you bothering me, and launched off to go fishing I imagine. I’ll keep this one for the memory, twigs and all.

Muscovy ducks are large, averaging 4.3 kilograms (9 lbs.) with a typical wingspan between 137- 154 centimeters (54- 61 in). Males are generally larger than females. Muscovy ducks have red fleshy protuberances, caruncles, that surround the face of adult birds, particularly prominent in adult drakes (males). Their plumage is brownish black with iridescent green, purple and white wing patches.
Muscovy ducks have a social hierarchy in which males protect their territories by dominating other males with visual displays. Dominant males mate with females that nest in their territories while other males remain as bachelors. This species is non-migratory and active during the day.
