Een reusachtig beeld van Bartje is vandaag langs de A28 geplaatst, bij de afslag naar het TT Circuit. Het acht meter hoge object is een initiatief van Destic Kunststoffen en Busa Coatings.
Dat Bartje met sokkel tegenover de stenen TT-letters is neergezet, met het gezicht naar het westen, is geen toeval. "We blazen niet erg hoog van de toren om de Formule 1 naar Assen te halen", legt Pascale Luyks van Destic uit.
"Bescheidenheid siert de mens, maar blijkbaar is het nodig om de volumeknop wat hoger te zetten om zo aan de 'rest van Nederland' te laten zien dat er veel knowhow, innovatie en bedrijvigheid is in het Noorden. We krijgen wellicht geen Max Verstappen, maar we hebben altijd onze Bart."
Geen vergunning
De bedrijven hebben geen vergunning aangevraagd om het enorme beeld van Bartje naast de snelweg te plaatsen. "Het beeld staat bij een boer in het veld", zegt Luyks. "We hopen dat we het drie tot vier weken kunnen laten staan." Het beeld is gemaakt van piepschuim en voorzien van een harde coating. "Het is stevig genoeg om zware weersomstandigheden te weerstaan", verwacht Luyks.
De gemeente Assen heeft inmiddels een kijkje genomen en stelde vast dat Bartje met zijn sokkel in de gemeente Midden-Drenthe is geplaatst. Die gemeente buigt zich momenteel over de vraag of het beeld langs de snelweg mag blijven staan.
