Spending as much time as I can at my favorite place, I watched the seabirds flee, I knew something was up, then this gigantic juvenile flew in front of me, over and around my head. The sun was setting. She gave me a lovely silhouette.
This one is younger than the two we saw on Sunday.

They are fighting over a crab you see in the water. None of them knew what to do with it and never even cracked it open. The gulls did that for them.
I knew something was wrong when I smelled pigeon.
One of Dad's favorite photos, taken in Confederation Park in downtown Ottawa, where I spotted this guy near the South African War (1899-1902) Monument. He would point out to you to check out in close-up where my eyes are directed.

I knew there were chicks in the burrow, as the male, shown here, was coming in with dragonflies, passing them off to his mate who would momentarily disappear into the burrow where I assumed she was feeding her chicks. Today, for the first time, I saw one shy chick poke it’s head out of the nest. I can’t wait to see how many there are. I'm not certain the Easter Chicken knew what had happened when she checked her nest. At least it was smiling! Happy Smile on Saturday.
We knew our starling visitors were feeding chicks when they suddenly went bonkers for bird food. We waited in anticipation for them to fledge and here is one of the first.
Since we knew we couldn't go out riding last Sunday we went Saturday afternoon and evening. We came into this enormous storm where we both failed to get a shot of lightning despite the fact there were Plenty of opportunities! Still... there were great, dramatic shots to be had! This is on the edge of the storm. Later it rained so hard we were forced to pull off and wait it out. Yesterday I also learned that this storm produced a tornado south of us. I felt like a real storm chaser! LOL
Had a little bit of time to capture some floral photos today.
I used a slightly different approach today. Used Program (P) mode.
I am still struggling a little to get just the right adjustment in Lightroom. I knew just what to do in GIMP to get the color levels right, but I am sure over time I will figure it out.

I knew nothing about this colourful beetle, but found it in my book "Bugs of Alberta" written by University of Alberta entomologist John Acorn and illustrated by Ian Sheldon.
I love John's description:
"Here we have yet another good-looking iridescent beetle, coloured in lovely greens, reds, and blues. If you are a bird, this pattern makes sense-they all taste terrible.
However, in the case in of the blister beetle family (most of which are dull grey or black), the terrible-tasting chemical is something called "cantharidin". This poison is quite potent, causing blistering wherever it encounters moist skin, such as the inside of your mouth or an open sore. Toads can eat them without any difficulty, but most other animals would rather eat hornets or hot coals".
Who knew ... when I took the flower shots the first week in January (see collage in Comments below) and went around with a smug grin on my face ... that stark reality awaited just a few days later!
Tenby Beach in Pembrokeshire. I saw these rocks and loved the colour. Knew I had to photograph them. The weather was so calm and warm for December. A perfect afternoon. The seagull was an added bonus. He wasn't paid for his work unfortunately

I knew I was alone, yet I had a sense I was being watched. Eventually I spotted the culprit. What else could I do, but grab my camera. It only seemed fair. Now the tables had turned. Hah!
I knew this Mallard drake was going to flap so I waited for him to launch, and indeed he did. But I was surprised to see that he closed his eyes at a point during the flapping.

Who knew photographing an orange pepper could be so much fun, surely not me! But it was and here it is, I really don't know why I waited so long. Why an orange pepper you ask? I mean other than it being this week's theme for Crazy Tuesday? Well it is kind of crazy, it's like what happened in the Little Shop of Horrors song Da-Doo when Seymour acquired the Audrey Two. I took liberty to change a few words but it's remarkably close, well kind of close, OK not really close at all, it's a story, but I did get the pepper from Acme for $1.99. So here it is, I added the link at the end for a refresher on the actual song from the movie:

So I was just about to, you know, walk on by.

I coulda sworn it hadn't been there before.
But Acme sold it to me anyway.

I've had a lot of these type of experiences and now I had my orange subject for Crazy Tuesday.
As for the shot it's really a simple shot to prep, stick the pepper on a sturdy stick using some clamps for support and shoot against a black throw blanket that I've been using a lot lately. Add some black paper to hide the clamps and the pepper's all set.
The day was bright so no supplemental lights were required but I did add some screens to lessen the harsh highlights. I set up the camera with my trusty Nikon 55mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Micro lens to focus from the front to the back and shot away at f/5.6. Photoshop aligned and stacked the layers and while not the best, it was good enough for a pepper. In post, the pepper was set against an orange background (sampled from the pepper to get the right shade) and that was it! An orange pepper, fun to shoot and even more fun once I got it down in digital form, endless possibilities I suspect, perhaps a slider or two.

I never knew landscape photography could be so enjoyable.
For several years now I have concentrated on wildlife, mostly birds, yet im finding myself more and more drawn to this most peaceful of pastimes.
I guess this is mostly thanks to Flickr and the wonderful images I see on a daily basis either Explored or by people I now follow, It does inspire me to get out there and have a try myself.
There have also been a couple of people on here who have been so helpful with their advice I really do appreciate the encouragement you have given me.
I guess we are all learning, all the time but for me with landscape photography I dont really even feel Ive scratched the surface yet.
There are so many things to learn but I guess as long as you are enjoying yourself then that`s all that matters.
This image was taken in Lancing, West Sussex, UK.
Some of you will have seen my kestrel shots which I get at a local nature reserve called Widewater lagoon which is literally right next to where this picture was taken. If I was to keep walking in this direction within a few miles I would reach Worthing pier.

I knew this guy was in town, and I was more bored than anything. I drove over to the yard as they were pulling out. The clouds were pretty dark around Lincoln and I grabbed the elevator shot at Emerald.
I wasn't planning on chasing him, but the clear skies to the West tempted me and I got two more shots.

She knew people were sad. She was sad for them...but she couldn't help but be so very excited as well. She was about to finally meet someone very special!

She knew I took the photo, but did not smile, unaware of the sign behind her. This was in front of Bathurst subway stop and we both actually took the same subway home. I put my camera away, as photographing any more would be intrusive. This was my last photo of that Sunday afternoon.

We knew the day will come when we had to say good bye to our special little guest, Temp Temp. :(
Having Temp Temp around has been so much fun! She learned a few magic tricks during her stay....and I swear she's levitating in this photo! LOL

I knew there were anteaters in Costa Rica, but I didn't expect to actually see one. But, we happened to see one foraging around on one of the trails near Arenal Observatory Lodge.
If you follow Charlie's page you will of seen that the Tabby boys are now part of the family.
I had no intention of keeping any let alone three...omg but the moment Charlie accepted them I knew they weren't going anywhere.
He adores them all but by far Tex is his favourite and I adore Charlie for being the most awesome, loving, accepting cat I have ever had the pleasure to know.
He thinks it's awesome that he has three new brothers to play with. When Squirt has had enough he seriously plays with each of them, it's like he was meant to be a big brother and having a big family suits him and how he was supposed to live.
