FIRST: This is not a typical scar! This is a family trait- we scar ugly. It is NOT a keloid/Hypertrophic scar. My surgeon said so himself. It isn't anything other than ugly- there is no discomfort and causes no problems.
I'm a few days late with this as an "update" photo. I had my knee replaced on March 18, 2009. It has been a gloriously ridiculous six years. Sometimes I feel like I've done nothing at all with it, then I realize all that I have done.
And this ALMOST fits with the doctor theme for We're Here!. I mean, I GOT this from a doctor. I almost called it a "gift", except that in reality, this scar and the metal joint inside actually cost about a thousand dollars more than our house did. (that's right, my replaced knee cost approximately $50,000 and our house, purchased in 1996, was $49,000).
Anyway, this is Fronkensteen and I love him. I actually forgot to update him altogether this year, but that's the point to having a joint replaced- you get to move on with your life (if you're lucky). While I'll never be perfectly 100%, I'm as close as possible- which is a helluvalot better than I was six years ago.
Having my knee replaced gave me the renaissance faire, because without the replacement, I never would have been able to go to Bristol.

I'm two days late for my knee-versary. Five years ago, I had my knee replaced. And I ended up with this beauty of a scar.
Don't let this deter you. This is a family trait, we just scar ugly. Today, though, Fronkensteen seems to be in the pink. Some days, he's almost purple. Others he's red. But here we are, a phone pic of my knee scar.
And as it turns out, I haven't done a yearly update, like I thought I'd remember to do. But that's good. Forgetting that the cyborg part is there is part of the assimilation process.
Day one, the nurse took that photo with my old mobile phone.
Day two or three, I don't really remember what day it was, I was on a ton of pain meds (Oxycontin).
My weird bruise from the drain tubes that were in my leg. Taken about ten or twelve days after surgery.
This is my leg in a CPM machine (continuous passive motion machine) after I went through MUA (manipulation under anesthesia). Adhesions and scar tissue built up too fast and made bending nearly impossible. I hated this machine- not because it was painful, but because it was BORING! Stuck in my room, no Internet, the very basic cable, no DVD player, couldn't read lying flat on my back. It was torture! I referred to it as "the machine" with a tone of disdain.

In We're Here!, we're "Loving something Ugly". And this is Fronkensteen. He's the scar I got when I had my knee replaced six years ago. And without him, I wouldn't have what I have now. Without him, I wouldn't have met the people I know and love; without him, I wouldn't have been able to combine my two favorite things; and without him, I wouldn't be able to have "Photographer at the Bristol Renaissance Faire" and "Official Photographer of the Gathering of Rogues & Ruffians" on my job history.
He's sort of pink today. Sometimes he's purple, sometimes he's so pale pink he's barely visible. He is not, however, a Keloid scar. He's not a typical knee replacement scar, either. He's just like this because I take after my dad. We both scar ugly and we scar fast. We build up scar tissue like armor and we're a nuisance to those who have to cut through it (my dad's second bypass surgery, 13 years after the first, took two hours to get through his scar tissue). Basically, my dad and I are the worst versions of Wolverine. We heal quickly, but we're not much good at the superhero thing.
I love Fronkensteen. He's beautiful to me.

This person who is 50 +, a known Ankylosing spondylosis patient had undergone BOTH HIP BI-POLAR REPLACEMENT else where 7 years before.
Now he had come with pain , shortening and inability to walk using his left lower limb.
On further evaluation , he was diagnosed with severe OSTEOPENIA (bone weakness) and LEFT HIP PROTRUSIO .(LEFT HIP WALL GOING INSIDE PELVIS.)
We took him for surgery.
Expected difficulty.
We have to remove the old implant without damaging the Pelvis and it was very challenging. Took 2.30 hrs for extracting the metal head alone without damaging the Pelvis.
REVISION THR was done using a special CAGE . The empty cavity produced by the sinking of head needed 2 FEMORAL HEAD ALLOGRAFT.
Total duration of surgery was 7 hours.
Patient did well. Initially mobilised without putting weight and by 6 weeks full weight bearing started.
He was also started on Medication for bone strengthening.
ALL IS WELL and he too became well,
Like Nature , life is always Beautiful ...

She's doing great. She's been on a couple of walks, has gone up and down a step (to know which leg to lead with), has been on the machine that bends her leg for her for a few hours and her pain is only a 3 out of 10 (on Tylenol). So she's doing great so far and should get out of the hospital early (tomorrow).
David brought her some wheatgrass and a veggie drink.

my left knee is one year old today, so i baked it a cake. i started with my standard banana bread recipe which is fairly typical other than having had me rip most of the fat and sugar out of it and using 1 1/2 mashed bananas and an equal amount of leftover roasted butternut squash. oh, and i reduced the cinnamon and nutmeg by about half and added in a like amount of garam masala that had cloves and coriander as the dominant spices. it turned out great, a nice cross between banana bread and pumpkin loaf with a slight indian twist.

Geoff’s Check-up at 18 Months After a Double Knee Replacement
Geoff had a double knee replacement in October 2014 and at around 18 months post the operation had an appointment with Dr. Coffey to check on his progress. After the surgery the pain in his knees gradually abated and at 12 months his recovery was complete.
Dr. Coffey asks how he felt about having a double knee replacement before he had it. Geoff says from the stories he’d heard from other people he’d expected it to be worse.
After their preliminary discussion Dr. Coffey asks Geoff to hop up onto the examination table and to bend his knees. Before the operation Geoff couldn’t straighten his knees. Both knees stopped short of full extension by 100 to 15° and he could only bend them back 95°.
Dr Coffey measures Geoff’s flexibility to find he can now bend his knees from 00, (an extra 10'451, to 105’, (an extra 10°).
