primer coat for the bottom cabinets. lower doors are being sanded and prepped in another room. the upper cabinets will remain open/without doors. walls have first coat of "crisp ginger ale" - hah, i love paint color names.
cabinet doors with stripper on the hinges. the hinges and hardware had about 4 coats of paint on them. :( one of my BIGGEST PET PEEVES is a painted hinge or a painted over outlet or switch. BARF.
I didn't know I'd be doing a before-and-after album at the time, so I didn't get a great shot of the new wall. But you can kind of tell that the door is gone. It just made this little kitchen feel much less chaotic, plus I was able to extend the cabinets up to the wall. Every inch counted in this kitchen!
New cabinets, appliances, and counter tops. I didn't replace the cabinet on the window. Instead, I added a stainless steel rolling cart. Window access issue solved!

What you can't see in the picture: Some of the cabinets weren't attached to the walls. You could literally push them around the floor. Which I did when I needed to access the window.

The thing to note in this photo is the door. That was the door to access the backyard, and it opened in. In a kitchen this small, having that door was a real annoyance, especially when entertaining outside. Ken's (most excellent) idea was to wall up this door, and add one to the dining room instead.

matthew spent hours peeling out the old nasty LAYERED contact paper. ugh :( so gross. i also pulled out the rickety drawers and reassembled them with liquid nails and finishing nails. they are much more sturdy now!!
