Wagtail House MOC work in progress.

After a detour on the planet Ademis I have now returned to modern architecture. Dark red, white and black are the main colours of this house. Fully interiored with several cozy corners to read a book.

Checkered Tan Checkered Tan House is a spacious summer residence with light colours. It's built on top of a creek and is surrounded by green, bright green and lime green foliage. A small patio is carved out in the rocks. Fully furnished of course.

This house has similarities both with one of my earliest builds Autumn Stream House and my box-shaped Coral House.

My aim was to keep the house simple, creating dynamics only with the combination of house bodies and windows. This makes a contrast to the green surroundings of the house. (work in progress) is a spacious summer residence with light colours.

blogged. Due to flickr's policy please see my profile/blog for the link.

Ideal Dinettes on Knickerbocker Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn was founded in 1953 when the neighborhood was still had a huge Italian population with many large extended families living in the same household. As Bushwick underwent gentrification in the 2000s, business declined as families moved out of the area and there was less of a need for large “dinette” sets, coupled with the fact that the second-generation owners were getting older and they decided to close their shop in 2008. The saddest part of this story is that the owners knew that we were huge fans of the gorgeous neon sign and before they closed the shop, asked if we wanted to keep it. We live in a small studio in the East Village and could not possibly fit the large sign inside our apartment, let alone carry it up the necessary stairs to our floor so we had to decline their offer. This was before we were active on social media (we didn’t start our Instagram account until 2014) and did not have the large network of friends and followers that we now have and surely now would easily be able to find a great home for this neon sign and the signage ended up being heaped into a dumpster. Our film photo from 2004 and interview with the 2nd-generation owners of Ideal Dinettes appears in our book “Store Front II- A History Preserved”.

My second take on micro scale interior building. This time I built a tiny kitchen. The vignette measures 8 x 6 studs.

The white flowers surround this split-level house inspired by 20th Century modernist architecture. The SNOT windows along the livingroom and bedroom started this build and it is almost a little brother to my previous Artsand House MOC. As always, I've spent a lot of time working on the interiors and I'm pretty fond of the combined kitchen and livingroom myself. I hope you like it too!

Orange Beach House MOC is a comfortable hide-away by the sea. It's a split-level house built directly on the beach. The idea of sandy cliffs and ground terrace with a small pool came to me first and then the rest of the house emerged along the way.

Downstairs you find a livingroom, bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs you find a calm room with sea view, kitchen and study. Fully interiored.

The building technique used to create the beach was new to me, but I think it turned out well. I used lots of curved slopes...

The building process is further described on my Instagram page (@betweenbrickwalls). Link in bio.

What a gloriously period cover on this 1930s publicity booklet issued by the EDA, an organisation set up by the major players within the industry in 1919 to publicise the use of electricity in industry and the home. The organisation was prolific in publishing such information booklets and this has an introduction on the utility and utilsation of electricity in the kitchen as well as 100 recipes by Mrs A Mole and Miss Alys Waterman. The booklet is aimed at two audiences I suspect; firstly housewives whose lives would be 'made easier' by the cleanliness and instantaneous nature of electricity in place of a coal/coke range in the modern home and secondly, aimed at people who would at the time be facing life for the first time without domestic help but now with the "capable servant in the home - electricity'! The booklet would have been available for issue through a wide range of outlets and, in this case, this was through the Harrogate Corporation Electricity Department, in Yorkshire.

Sadly the cover has no artist or designer but isn't it aimed at the 'moderne'! I do like the 20 in 20th century.

A floating home by the sea. Modern and comfortable. The house is surrounded by a wooden deck and shallow water. A bridge connects the deck to the guay. Fully interiored as always. Kitchen, toilet and living room downstairs. Bathroom, bedroom and storage space upstairs. You find more photos of the interiors in my photostream.

Inspiration comes from childhood summers and sailing with my parents. It was a challenge to catch the maritime feeling with details such as railings and stays and at the same time keep the design clean and modern.

I used dark blue bricks to create the water surface. The more common technique with transparent tiles or plates wasn't really on option because it didn't fit in the colour scheme.

I love old farmhouse kitchens and I was scared that when we built our house that the kitchen wouldn't have any charm. Using stone and pieces of wood we found here and there and some very new wood we cut from our woods, we had the start of a room that felt "lived in" as we were building it.

I added the old wooden tables which I've had since I was a student in Glasgow, a few chairs that have been given to me over the years, a woodstove we bought second-hand and a few bits that have followed me around for years and the new house feels like home.

Kitchen of Lava House MOC.

Lava House is a modern home with a colour scheme inspired by the 1970's and hot lava. Dark orange, dark red, reddish brown and black are dominant colours.

The house is situated on a volcano shaped rock surrounded by a stream of water and sand. In some way it reminds me of Calmwater Cliff House MOC, but it is still very different.

Inside the house you find a fully furnished living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom downstairs and TV corner upstairs.

The grille tiled roof can easily be lifted off in order to display the interior.

My plan is to display Lava House at a Swebrick exhibition in Hässleholm, Sweden, in the middle of August 2018.

One of my favourite shots I took of this Refurbishment and extension of a North Oxford house by Riach Architects. I think shots like this work well when there are strong symmetrical elements in the midst of an asymmetrical scene.

Artsand House MOC is a flirt with brutalism. A modern home with art gallery, spa and large bedroom with a garden view. Quadrangular concrete house bodies meet organic nature. A dog is waiting for the owner to come home.

In August 2019 I displayed some of my houses at the Kloss på Kloss exhibition in Hässleholm, Sweden. A visitor asked me if I didn´t have any brutalist houses. I said no and explained that it probably would be too boring. It would be hard to create the dynamics needed to make a modern house MOC interesting. After the exhibition I started thinking and decided to give brutalism a chance. Not purist brutalism, but rather contemporary architecture flirting with brutalism...
