The California Lighthouse is a lighthouse located at Hudishibana near Arashi Beach on the northwest tip of Aruba.

This lighthouse was named for the steamship California, which was wrecked nearby on September 23, 1891.

The lighthouse has completed a recent restoration in May 2016 which coincided with the 100th anniversary of the completion of the lighthouse.

Immediately adjacent to the lighthouse is a restaurant called La Trattoria el Faro Blanco (English: The White Lighthouse Restaurant), and also nearby is the Tierra del Sol Resort, Spa & Country Club.

The terrain is moon-like with sharp rocks sticking out of the ground, making it difficult for people to walk on without sturdy footwear.

I've been revisiting and reworking some old photographs.

Where I was? Pretty much on the other side of the world. The Caribbean island of Sint Maarten (and Saint-Martin on the French side) to be precise. Enjoying tropical temperatures for over two weeks; I can recommend it to anyone who wants to escape the Dutch winter for a while.

Since the beginning of January it has been too quiet on this page, but once again I want to change that. Starting with this photo from the capital on the Dutch side of the island, Philipsburg. Palm trees on the beach, the clear blue water and the green mountains in the background.

Haarlem - Harlem is the capital of the province of North Holland, the northern half of Holland, which at one time was the most powerful of the seven provinces of the Dutch Republic. The city is located on the river Spaarne, about 20 km west of Amsterdam and near the coastal dunes. It has been the historical center of the tulip bulb-growing district for centuries and bears the nickname 'Bloemenstad' (flower city), for this reason.

De Adriaan was built on the foundations of the Goevrouwetoren, or Goede Vrouwtoren (Goodwife Tower), a tower that used to be part of the city's defences. The towers were located on the river Spaarne, on each side, and historically they were defending the city from possible attackers over the water.

After waiting for a blue hour during rainy evening previous night without any success, I have returned to this place for the morning blue hour. It was very clear and lovely (and cold). When I finished I thought I might wait for the sunrise, suddenly from nowhere the fog started to pick up and created very moody atmosphere. No wonder Holland had such a great world painters when the country can provide dreamy light like this.

Marken is a peninsula in the IJsselmeer, the Netherlands, located in the municipality Waterland in the province North Holland. It is a former island, which nowadays is connected to the North Holland mainland by a causeway. Also, Marken is a well-known tourist attraction, well-known for its characteristic wooden houses.

The lighthouse is commonly known as the 'Horse of Marken' because of its characteristic shape with the tall, built-on keeper's house. Most probably it is, after the 'Brandaris' on Terschelling, the best-known and the most frequently photographed lighthouse of the Netherlands. The present lighthouse was built in 1839, upon the foundations of an earlier tower that was broken down that same year. The Zuyder Zee still was open sea by then and the lighthouse was of great importance for the shipping traffic to and from Amsterdam.

Hooiberg (Dutch for Haystack), is a 541-foot high volcanic formation located in the center of Aruba. The solitary peak is easy to see from virtually anywhere on the island.

The Haystack is often mistakenly said to be the tallest point on Aruba, but Mount Jamanota in Arikok National Park is actually taller.

Lining the waters of the Santa Anna Bay, the Handelskade is loaded with Dutch architecture, reminiscent of an Amsterdam canal but with a rich and vibrant color scheme~! This is the view Willemstad, Curacao is known for, but is only the tip of the iceberg for what this island in the Dutch Caribbean has to offer.

Taking off from Sint Maarten.

I've been revisiting some old photographs I took before I had a Flickr account. Most of them never got posted here, and all of them needed some reworking and overhauling to be somewhat presentable.
