kiki is one of those funky big headed girls that they are selling at old navy on the west coast. she's really pretty adorable, i think!
sadly, it's going to be a b*tch to dress her. as you can see from the pic with rita, she's a lot bigger than blythe.
the outfit she's wearing here is from one of those new bigger dora the explorer dolls... it's a bit big (especially the jeans) but dora's shoes are way too small for kiki (these are kiki's stock shoes and the only one she has!)
if anyone has clothing recommendations, i'd be happy to take them!

Kiki: Part II
From the very first time I left Kiki (after adopting her) home & returned later, she shared an absolutely disarming & endearing habit of "hugging" me as I walked through the door. I'd kneel down and she would stand on her hind legs, extend her front legs upon my shoulders, & wrap her head and neck around one side & then the other of my head & neck. In this she was distinctly European.
After reading the wonderful book "Mr. Wu & Mrs. Stitch: The Letters of Evelyn Waugh & Diana Cooper," I gave Kiki yet another nickname, "Mrs. Wu." In a reversal of what Waugh & Cooper did, I gave Kiki Waugh's nickname & Crispin Crispian Cooper’s nickname (Mrs. Wu & Mr. Stitch), I still think they are fitting nicknames.
We moved a lot after I finished my work in Iowa, ending up in NYC & then in the Greater Washington, D.C. area. We came back to the Greater D.C./Maryland area despite my having promised myself as a 16-year-old that I would never return to live anywhere near there (that's another story). I broke my promise to myself because of an attractive work opportunity.
By this time Kiki was well into her fifth year of suffering from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, likely the result of the terrible accident in Ames or at least precipitated by the awful German kennel experience (that resulted in stomach tortion, lengthy surgery by a newly-minted vet who had never before performed surgery any more complex than spaying/neutering--and she did it by real-time guidance on the telephone). I was fit to be tied when AFTER the surgery she (the young German veterinarian) revealed all this to me. Kiki was on a calcium-channel blocker, Hawthorne Berry, & Co-enzyme Q-10 supplementation for treatment--and had been doing well these five years.
Well, I came home on the evening of Good Friday 2003, opened the door, and was struck by the silence & lack of activity. I then heard the clickety-click of dog paws/toe-nails on the wood flooring & looked up to see Spanky ambling slowly toward me. No sights or sounds of Kiki.
I greeted Spanky, asking him where his step-sister was. Standing up, I looked around the corner toward Kiki's chaise lounge. Although the sun was setting, light still shone through the windows & blinds.
Looking more intently, I felt my stomach began to tighten as I dimly recognized the outlines of Kiki's body lying on the floor, at the foot of the chaise lounge. I quietly rushed over & reached down to touch her--& discern any signs of breathing. I found that she was slightly warm & her flesh was soft & yielding.
I sat down next to her & quietly called out her name--again & again, gently touching her as I did. No response. The front part of her tongue was hanging from the side of her mouth & I pressed my ear within an inch of her nostrils, listening intently for any sounds. There were none.
I stayed up for much of the night--wanting as much time together with her as possible. Later, I moved Kiki to the bedroom, laying her next to my futon, which was placed directly on the floor. I eventually fell asleep while lying on my side, looking directly into Kiki's face--her body now rigid with rigor mortis. Spanky stayed on the other side of Kiki: I wanted to be sure that he knew what state Kiki was in, that she was dead, that she did not simply disappear one day.
Early the next morning, I laid out my best linen sheet, gently placed Kiki on top of it, & wrapped her lifeless body (being careful not to cover her eyes & nose). Spanky stood close by. We took her to the car, laying her out in the back, & Spanky & I quietly got into the car and drove to the crematorium.
