5 exciting Kickstarter/Indiegogo projects that you can still get in on52

I had a Kickstarter project fail a day or two ago, and I'm quite happy about it. I always want them to work, but when they don't I remember how much work I don't have to do. Always the slacker, never the dreamer.

A big plus side (to me) is that I started taking the photos before the project was done, so I have a few extra things to post here since I probably won't do much shooting for a while.

Caroline and I wandered around her neighborhood during the funding period, sweating to death and being eaten by mosquitoes. But that just comes with the job, and you get over it rather quickly when you see all of the forgotten, quiet spots hidden in the corners of downtown. This shot was taken at a house that didn't exist. There were stairs to the front yard, then nothing; just a plot of land where someone else gave up when things didn't work out. There's something to be said for starting a project then failing miserably. You never know what you'll get from the little bit of effort you put in.

So far, the Kickstarter for the new Tripod has reached $10 million (get it at stuckincustoms.com/links/peak-design-travel-tripod ). Incredible! Great job everyone! I've heard a few complaints about using Kickstarter as a marketing tool that I think are unfounded. Peak Design is an amazingly successful company with plenty of cash reserves, so why do they use a vehicle like KS to hawk their wares? There are a panoply of great reasons... for one, they have now done so many Kickstarters and they owe their success to that platform so they remain loyal. For two, they go back to the original community and offer them better prices as a sort of reward and they can get it cheaper than driving down to their local camera store or on Amazon after the KS event ends. For three, the incredibly active community acts like an intense "focus group" and they give them all kinds of hardcore advice and suggestions. And, last, in my personal opinion, companies like Peak Design on Kickstarter help to make the entire platform more trusted and stable, which gives a strong foundation to other new companies and entrepreneurs that have interesting ideas. Anyway, that's my take! Go see for yourself at stuckincustoms.com/links/peak-design-travel-tripod

This year the lads over at YouTube channel Beyond the Brick invited me to help them with their annual Kickstarter project to fund DVD coverage of Brickworld Chicago.

By backing the project at the $200 level, five lucky backers got the chance to have their likenesses recreated by me in LEGO! Here are the ones that I have completed so far, with the original reference photos shown for context.

I’m very pleased to say that my pinhole photo from Berwick-upon-Tweed has been selected for publication in The f/D Book of Pinhole.

Just for fun I made General Vargas of the Desert Rangers from the first RPG I backed on Kickstarter, Wasteland 2 - the belated sequel to the game that gave birth to the Fallout series.

I just wanted to use that hat. :P

"Good job, recruits."

- Enter the Book Brick-

For a long time I have been dreaming of making a book with the Enter the Brick series. Since being a full time artist does not bring riches and automatically leads to exhibitions, I now want to share the idea and call out for your support and help. In addition I’d love to finally come to a show in the US and display a large selection of the bricks. This combined with visiting as many fellow and befriended brick heads as possible.

>>> The Campaign at Kickstarter <<<

So either if you want to see this happen or just like the series, this is how you can help:

- Spreading the word about this project

- Backing this project (and receiving fantastic rewards in return)

- Directly (co-)funding the project or providing sponsors

If you have any suggestions or else connected to the project, don't hesitate and get in touch with me.

Just received my order of the Everyday BackPack by PeakDesign and I'm really excited about bringing it out! Pretty clueless on how I should be shooting this bag and I don't want it to be "just another shot"

I'm guessing these 2 shots would do for now.

Some of the cool loot I received from the Skulls Kickstarter project by V&A Steamworks.

I barfed up a Death Figure using a prototype skull I received a while back. accompanying him is Gingerbread spirit "print test" and a rare Gingerbread man during transformation!

The Gingerbread man has a black donut and a rare swirled coffee donut set of chakrams!

Please Mr Chapman consider making a decent Scythe - The lego blade looks ridiculous and I'm sure you could smash this one out in no time. if not I'll mod this one I guess. Probably should have done that first hmmmm....

Apart from the cool photography theme, these socks are made from recycled PET bottles. Yup, plastic Coke, Sprite, Vitamin Water etc. The PET bottles are crushed, and re-processed as PET-yarn. When I first heard about it I was like, 'No way'. So this project helps to reduce the amount of PET that ends up in landfills. Great project to support. Do check it out here

In the excitement of the new kickstarter launch of Mobile Frame Zero: Intercept Orbit (formerly Alpha Bandit), I made a company of mobile frames (the Corsair Wild) and four mobile frame aces for each color system bonus( aces are in a larger scale for game purposes).

Alpha Bandit uses a new scale for spaceship combat. Frames act as space fighters, but can also land on frigates and capital ships in order to take them over.

Check it out!
