One of the many cool sights in Tucumcari, NM. It kind of looked like someone had taken all the Route 66 cliches, threw them at this one building, and they all stuck!
"If you ever plan to motor west
Just take my way, it's the highway that's the best
Get your kicks on Route 66!"

Yellow Swallowtail butterfly and a wild daisy here at home.
The raised legs made me think of one of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld. My mind works in strange ways sometimes. 😁
Elaine and the "Little Kicks" :
If you ever plan to motor west
Travel my way, take the highway that is best
Get your kicks on Route sixty six
It winds from Chicago to LA
More than two thousand miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route sixty six
Now you go through Saint Looey
Joplin, Missouri
And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty
You see Amarillo
Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona
Don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernandino

On this stretch of the famous “Mother Road”—the primary US highway connecting the Midwest and West Coast from the 1920s through the 80s—the road is a pair of roadways—the now unused old road (where I stood to take the picture), which was washed out in several places west of Summit Valley by the floods of 1938, and the “new” road, on the left, built as the original road's replacement. As you can see on the hillside near the center of the image, an enterprising local rancher has cleared away the brush in the form of a “66” to commemorate the famous highway, across which generations of Americans migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.

Just too many cute Poppys in one day. If there weren't another day to this convention, I could still go home happy. So much cuteness!!
Named after a song by Paul Revere and the Raiders, she reminds me of a cross between Cher in the mid-60s and Marlo Thomas during "That Girl!"
Love those long earrings!
Every time I went home to see my family, my son, we've always went to shoe store,(Nike most of the time) and I will not stop until I got him a new pair of kicks, and he really loves it.
I'll be back to the summer chronology soon but figured I'd put up an oldie just for kicks. In the good old days I would run the numbers of all CNW's road power through the UP car trace and see if there was anything nearby. I suspect this was one of those times. A westbound manifest grinds up Knapp Hill on the Adams line behind a CNW and an SP SD. It was a good time for variety on the UP. May 9, 1998.

Silly, quick photo done this morning because I have this outfit and I HAD to use it for a shot. Didn't bother too much with editing on this one, just done for kicks.
