This is a view from the top of the quarry at Edsele Gruva, Sweden.

Edsele is the village and "gruva" means mine, but since they used to extract quartz and feldspar here, it really was a quarry and not a mine.

Either way, the site opened in 1965 and closed in 1983. It is situated fairly remote, but we decided to make the trip there in early July of 2022 and had fun swimming in the turquoise water which wasn't very warm as the water is like 30 m / 100' deep.

Afterwards, we climbed up here and I decided to try for a panorama shot. The thing was that I only had the macro lens with me so in order to fit everything I shot multiple photos in portrait orientation and then used Kolor Autopano Giga to stitch them together.

Since this is 17 exposures, the software alerted me that Photoshop won't handle images wider than 30,000 pixels and the render was going to end up just over 33,000 pixels wide so I had to trim some off at the sides!

The resulting image here is 29690 x 13433 pixels which translates into 399 mexapixels. When uploading here, Flickr refused to handle the JPEG as they have a maximum file size for images of 200 MB and this was 205(!) After tweaking it a little in Photoshop I managed to inch under the limit though.

Now, the image shown above isn't the 399 megapixel one though (even if you zoom in), but a smaller version to not nuke people's bandwidth. It is however possible to view the original image here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/52659275123/sizes/o/ (though it will take some time to load).

If you have a look up top left in the photo, you can see a white car. This is a 2017 Kia Optima which I know even if it wasn't the car we came there in and I have no idea who owns it. I know because the photo is so massive that I can zoom in and read the license plate and the Kia badge on the trunk.

The Kia K5, formerly known as the Kia Optima, is a mid-size car manufactured by Kia since 2000 and marketed globally through various nameplates. First generation cars were mostly marketed as the Optima, although the Kia Magentis name was used in Europe and Canada when sales began there in 2002.

The first bgeneration Magentis (Optima) was launched in 2000, based on the Hyundai Sonata differing only in minor exterior styling details and equipment content. It was first shown in South Korea in July 2000 and was the first product of the Kia-Hyundai platform integration plan. Available in other markets with engines ranging from 1795cc to 2656cc, the Magentis was introduced to the European markets after a minor facelift in 2002 only with the choices of a 1997cc S4 Sirius engine producing 134hp or a 2493cc Delta V6 with 170bhp
