This is on the Great Allegheny Passage cycle trail in Pennsylvania. We hired bikes from the delightful folks at Gram Gram's Place in Meyersdale. The Keystone viaduct is one of the highlights for me. Down below are a road and river.
Apropos of nothing at all, I'm not sure I'm quite ready to say "So long and thanks for all the fish", but the moment is close. Having seen how much easier it is to use Ipernity, and just how much better than Flickr it is, I think I'll gradually switch.
a brief note on context:
i was sieving stones from the sunken guerrilla garden i'm constructing in a deep divot in the rock of a local island. the "soil" in the divot is pretty much as though someone dumped a load of random rocks in a pit (from small pebbles & flakes to a few multihundredpound lumps) an aeon orso ago that has slowly been trickle-filled with decaying matter & wormshit until it's packed solid, a network of weird roots winding through it all. "digging" in this stuff is next to impossible: almost anywhere my little handtrowel gets pushed, it's stopped about a quarter-inch in by a rock.
pulling out yet another "keystone" about a coupla feet down, these 2 tumbled out from behind.
i get that the females can dig & have ovipositors that can extend somewhat further but this pair were deep under a jumble of almost-solid stone.
i've found a lot of worms in what would seem impossible places down here, too: maybe their holes are being used by others as well?
I spent the 4-6 of the month with my family and family friend in Dillon, Colorado at Keystone Resort for a short vacation! We skied and hung out in the hot tub in our condo for a couple of days. It was a beautiful, nice break from Kansas.

Keystone is an eco-development foundation. It is specialized in forest honey. from all over the Nilgiris, tribals (mostly Iruluas) bring honey in and the foundation checks for quality and markets through outlets- 'The Green Shop in and out of the region. keystone also promotes organic crops natural to the habitat. The shops sell pottery, candles, creams, bags, organic cotton etc.
they have 5 big buildings like this one. These are constructed out of rammed earth with the expertise of Auroville, Puducherry. 10 years ago organic architecture was not much developed. in all the buildings no concrete is used. note the natural color of the walls. rainwater is harvested in a pool below for reuse.
