The sPHENIX detector under assembly. A crane installs the 20-ton superconducting solenoid magnet atop the lower sectors of the outer hadronic calorimeter. sPHENIX is a radical makeover of the PHENIX experiment, one of the original detectors designed to collect data at Brookhaven Lab’s Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. It includes many new components that significantly enhance scientists’ ability to learn about quark-gluon plasma (QGP), an exotic form of nuclear matter created in RHIC’s energetic particle smashups.
Every key unlocks a different door.
As individual as we are, one of the many things we have in common as humans is the fact that we all have or unique bunch of keys.
I've gone from having a heavy bunch to just a few. I've got keys I don't even know opens what, I just know they're there and they've been there for ages.
It's almost as if these keys somehow symbolises us, like they're somehow a part of us, a part of our daily lives and they inadvertently open a part of our daily existence. Without them, parts of us come to a sudden halt and ceases to function.
A Saunders Wholesale delivery van. The van is a 1950's panel truck. On the door is "Saunders Wholesale Key West Phone 85."From the Jeff Broadhead Collection.
The We're Here! gang is showing our keys today.
This is the key bowl by my entrance. It sits on a darling little table that my friends Val and John gave me. It's actually supposed to be a birdbath, but I thought it was too nice to put in the garden. LOL The bowl is from Fred's trip to Cambodia.
Photos from early 2005 in Key West Florida. I stayed at Atlantic Shores in Key West for 3 months from 26th December 2004 thru to the end of March 2005. Had some great fun and met some great people from all over the USA and world
Being a cat person, I have always heard about the 6-toed cats at Key West. On my first visit there, I saw two feral cats - not sure if they were 6-toed.
On subsequent visits to Key West, I saw no cats, but plenty of chickens. I was surprised how many chickens there were on the residential streets.
Strobist Info: my first attempt at high key portraiture. With only 2 speedlights, I had to figure out how to balance the light on her face, and adequately light the white backdrop.
I used an SB600 on a table behind the model, with a Gary Fong Lightsphere to disperse light across the backdrop. Manual 1/4 power. It evenly lit a surprisingly large area (a lot more than this crop)
Key light: SB800 camera right, shot through umbrella, TTL setting, 2 feet from model's face
Silver reflector low and camera left, for fill.
All done wirelessly with Nikon CLS

Wanted to try some low key work. Shoot through umbrella strobe to the right 1/16th, snooted strobe 1/4 power to the left to light the smoke. Originally planned for the soft light to be the main, but the snooted strobe has also made some specular highlights of the candle and the holder. More by luck than judgement, this has given the whole thing some good depth and contrast.
