The MAX "Day 1 Keynote" was great! Full of great announcements to be sure, and even a giveaway for attendees, but my favorite part was merely the overall response. After the keynote I talked to a number of attendees, and the feedback was consistent - that was the most holistic view of Adobe they had ever seen. I agree. Emphasis was given to web sites, digital publishing, video, enterprise and gaming.

On the web sites side, Dreamweaver support for HTML5 and CSS media queries was shown. A tool under development "Edge" was shown for interactive design with an HTML output. A commitment from Adobe was made to support jQuery. Site Catalyst gave in-depth information about what you can deliver, where.

On the publishing side various periodicals got coverage including the difference between Wired and National Geographic in print that is totally lost on the web today. Martha Stewart showed off Living. Conde Naste content was used to show fixed layout versus adaptive, and the full control to loss of control range you have to decide you want. A mind-blowing demonstration of flowing text in WebKit was shown, with a commitment from Adobe to contribute back to the project.

Video is on fire. The stage video feature was shown, AIR for TV was released to manufacturers, Adobe Media Encoder was going to work on your behalf, and a nod was given to Flash Media Server futures with on-the-fly encoding.

On the enterprise side Kevin Lynch outlined parts of the customer engagement model (CEM) that included client runtimes (Flash and HTML), processes, social integration (e.g. customer support), analytics and content management (with Day CMS). A Sunnybrook video showed Flex in action for mission critical uses. And then RIM came out to show that same application running on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

Moving to games, Kevin kicked some butt in the Sony Green Hornet game across multiple devices, but wondered why he was using on screen controls. He then announced game controller support will be coming to Flash. AIR 2.5 SDK was announced. It got all religious with casual game Idle Worship, and full hardware accelerated 3D support (including OpenGL and DirectX) was announced for Flash Player.

At the very end there was a "one more thing" moment, as Motorola took the stage to give every MAX attendee a Droid 2 device for free. Now, go forth and develop!
