Lots of Ewok related stunts.

Kevin, here with his niece and sister, didn't know his license was suspended until the arrest. He later learned it was because he forgot to submit a form to the Georgia Department of Driver Services.

Kevin, here working at an auto shop, also did everything he could to pay the court fine and probation fees. He couldn’t earn money through paid tow-truck driving training, which he had done before, so he did odd jobs for an auto shop.

Kevin Thompson, a 19-year-old from Decatur, Georgia, was jailed for five days because he couldn't afford to pay fines related to a traffic ticket.

Kevin paid as much as he could, but it wasn't enough. The company probation officer charged him with violating his probation when he hadn't paid in full after 30 days, and he was back in court.

When Kevin said he couldn't pay the whole fine that day, the judge put him on "probation" and gave him 30 days to pay. Judicial Correction Services, Inc. – the for-profit probation company appointed by the court to collect the debt – also charged Kevin additional fees.

Kevin, pictured with his dad, went to the DeKalb County Recorders Court for the violation in October. The judge who heard the case fined him more than $800.

Being separated from his family, including his baby niece, made jail emotionally difficult for Kevin.

I *think* that's Kevin Thompson glancing over, next to Miguel Cairo. I think that's Damon on deck.

The jail was cold and dirty, and Kevin didn't have enough to eat. He felt ashamed and scared. He wanted to pay what the court ordered, but he just couldn't afford it.
