Washi-no-yado, Hokkaido, Japan.

Possibly the highlight of my trip to Japan. With a wingspan of around 6ft this beautiful creature is the largest of the Owl family and also probably the rarest.

An all-night vigil of the stream was required to obtain views of a couple of different birds, with 5 visits at various times during the night.

Note: Thomas Blakiston was a. 19th century English naturalist who first collected a specimen of this Owl in 1883

The Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas

The Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas is located by the Wisdom Pond, and there is a story behind the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas.

First of all, Wisdom Pond was discovered as a natural spring in a marshy area. After the spring was discovered, the lake kept getting bigger. Within two or three days of its discovery, the lake's water continued to gush forth, even washing away the soil by the lake. Therefore, Venerable Dayi Shi arranged for the construction of the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas by the Wisdom Pond to protect its shores. Since the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas were built by the lake, the water never overflowed again.

What is special about this Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas? Buddhist stone pagodas are typically composed of various parts, including the base, body, spire, finial, pedestal, and ornamentation. The "base" consists of two parts: the underground foundation and the above-ground pedestal, both of which are connected, forming the solid foundation of the pagodas to anchor them securely.

The Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagoda on Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden has a square-shaped body with a four-cornered Sumeru pedestal, greatly enhancing its stability and making it highly earthquake and typhoon resistant. The upper part of the pagoda is designed in a step-like pattern, typical of Tibetan-style pagodas. The Sumeru pedestal is adorned with lotus patterns, and the body of the pagoda is decorated with auspicious clouds and fierce lions. It has a flat and wide finial with niche doors, which contain carved Buddha images.

At the top of the pagoda's finial, there are 13 rings of "ornamental wheels" or "Dharma wheels." The "ornamental wheel" is positioned in the middle section of the pagoda's spire and is one of the most important components. In physical terms, the ornamental wheel consists of concentric rings linked together, serving as a symbol to gaze upon and venerate. It plays a role in showing reverence to the Buddha. The number of rings on an ornamental wheel on a pagoda is generally determined by the size and rank of the pagoda; it can range from three to five rings for smaller pagodas and up to thirteen rings for larger ones. Thirteen rings of ornamental wheels are referred to as the "thirteen heavens."

Regarding the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas themselves, they symbolize the names of the Seven Buddhas of the Seven Treasures: Namo Ratna-ketu Tathagata, Namo Ratna-sambhava Tathagata, Namo Ratna-kara Tathagata, Namo Arya-jña-na-garbha Tathagata, Namo Ratna-vikrama Tathagata, Namo Ratna-ruci Tathagata, Namo Amitabha Tathagata.

A Buddhist pagoda is a symbolic treasure in Buddhism, revered by believers. It also possesses a powerful, sacred quality capable of subduing all evil or alien forces and can be used for supplication and seeking help. Therefore, the spiritual benefits obtained by circumambulating a Buddhist pagoda while reciting scriptures and turning prayer beads are immeasurable.

So, when you pray, turn your prayer beads, recite scriptures, and walk clockwise around the pagodas’ bases. You will undoubtedly have a very auspicious experience! This is the story of the Seven Treasures Wish-Fulfilling Pagodas on Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden.

Ketu is the descending lunar node in Vedic, or Hindu astrology. After the head of Svarbhānu, an Asura, was cut off by God Vishnu, his head and body joined with a snake to form 'Ketu', representing the body without a head, and Rahu, representing the head without a body.

Ketu is generally referred to as a "shadow" planet. It is believed to have a tremendous impact on human lives and also the whole creation. Astronomically, Rahu and Ketu denote the points of intersection of the paths of the Sun and the Moon as they move on the celestial sphere. Therefore, Rahu and Ketu are respectively called the north and the south lunar nodes. The fact that eclipses occur when the Sun and the Moon are at one of these points gives rise to the understanding of swallowing of the Sun and the Moon by the snake. (Wikipedia)

In Hindu astrology and mythology, Saturn known as Shani in Sanskrit is a sinister influence on the birth, death of human beings who believe in such planetary influences on their life.

There are 9 planets/ houses in the astrological symbolism covering most of the planets, moon and 2 other capricious entities called Rahu and Ketu which are the ascending and descending lunar nodes.

So there are 3 baddies out there in a Hindu believer's future as foretold by the planets.

Now to consecrate one of the malefic entities and worship it in a temple is in itself quite an oxymoron but then the purveyors of astrology and Hinduism manage to make a situation out of anything and we in India will worship anyhoo.

There are a few such temples and some have been in news recently courtesy modern day suffragettes and liberals demanding equal rights to pray at all temples. Yes you guessed it right women are not allowed inside some very famous temples in India. One such Shani temple is located in Shinganapur near Ahmednagar in Maharashtra and somehow I missed going there during my few years stay in Pune.

Whether women are allowed inside this particular temple, I know not. This is located on the road from Arehalli to Belur and it was a Monday so it was closed. Saturday would be the day for Saturn, right ?

K2 (also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, Savage Mountain, Mountaineer's Mountain or Mount Godwin-Austen) is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. With a peak elevation of 8,611 m (28,251 feet), K2 is part of the Karakoram Range, and is located on the border[2] between Baltistan, in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan, and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China.[3] It is more hazardous to reach K2 from the Chinese side; thus, it is mostly climbed from the Pakistani side.

K2 is known as the Savage Mountain due to the difficulty of ascent and the second-highest fatality rate among the "eight thousanders" for those who climb it. For every four people who have reached the summit, one has died trying.[4] Unlike Annapurna, the mountain with the highest fatality-to-summit rate, K2 has never been climbed in winter.

Venetian Spirit || Venice, Italy

While the weather in Bled was getting worse and it started raining I packed my bags and left that mesmerizing little town. The journey continued to one of the most unique cities in Italy, Venice. A three hour drive through the heavy rain really made me hopeless for the weather and the sunset I have planned to shoot that day, but as I was coming closer to Venice I realized that the weather is clearing up, and I have to say I did check the weather forecast app more than 30 times during the road trip, concluding that they Lie a lot, and actually the predictions are terrible (That was good, because they predicted rain). I parked the car, and the price of this was damn high, really terrible experience and something that you should be careful if you plan to go to Venice, (I suggest leaving the car a bit further away and go there by train) Dragging the bags was not fun as well, and when I arrived at the hotel around 6 o’clock I was super exhausted, never the less I just checked in, got some water and headed to the Rialto Bridge.

With the perfect view through the Grand Canal which is the division part between San Polo and San Marco, Ponte di Rialto is the most beautiful bridge and the biggest one in Venice, and believe me there are hundreds, or maybe even thousands of them there. Arriving there at around 18.30 and seeing the magnificent sunset that was about to happen was a big relief! Navigating through people who were taking selifes from the rialto bridge was really difficult and worse than that was finding a safe spot so people won’t actually touch the tripod while it was shooting, and that was definitely necessary (I’ll explain why in the part where I show how I processed the image). And it all went as planned!

Regarding the shot, I did around 200 different shots with many different settings, and this is why it was necessary for the position of the camera to be exact in all the shots so it won’t cause any trouble in the post production. The base image is consisted of 4 blended images in Oloneo (for the first time), and after that I did load the same images again on top of that so I could manually blend some parts which I did not like in photoshop, using different techniques such as luminosity masking, free hand masking and color Selection… I really loved what Oloneo did to the sky, but I was not really happy with the bottom part of the images… Other than that, later on I did capture a single shot only for the water, where the gondola was placed in the part that leads the viewer eye into the shot, and I did use a different speed for this shot to eliminate any motion that could happen… The third series of shots were actually for the city lights, and I did capture around 1.30 latest I did place my tripod to this exact location… With the help of Color efex pro4 and Viveza2 I was able to fine tune this image and the colors, achieving the exact colors I wanted, further more with Topaz DeNoise I eliminated the noise in some part of the sky and the darkest parts of the image to achieve the best quality
