This time, the stalwart critic asked: "with the arrival of the internet, have the critics themselves fallen under the axe?"
Trenchant opinion, hilarious autobiographical anecdotes, passionate personal prejudices, entertaining diversions and scathing sardonic humour ensued.

My Kermode Bear Story
The Kermode, or Spirit Bear is a Black Bear carrying a recessive gene causing it to have white fur. There are only about 400-1000 in existence with most being in northwest British Columbia, near the area where I have been working for the past six months.
Naturally, I was hoping to have the chance to see one, but as my time was winding down I had come to terms with the fact that it may not happen. As I had a final dinner with my co-workers on Friday night, area native and local expert Lorna Janas informed me that there had been sightings of the elusive Spirit Bear between Terrace and New Hazelton.
Saturday morning I loaded up the truck and departed Kitimat for the last time. Armed with a fresh coffee, some Allman Bros. cd's, and my D80 within reach, I set out from Terrace with renewed hope of seeing one of these magnificent creatures. I decided that if I turned my focus inward, then perhaps the Kermode Bear would present itself to me.
So, about 8 miles shy of Kitwanga, I passed a pasture on the left and I saw a black bear in the field and another large white animal on the other side. I drove by, telling myself that it was probably a horse bent over eating grass. Something told me to turn around, however, and I am glad I did.
Sometimes when I encounter wildlife or other natural beauty, I take it to be an omen. God speaks to me in synchronicities and says, "The adventure has just begun."
