Playing Angels (1950) by Carl Milles along the Schuylkill River on Kelly Drive in Philadelphia

Bike rental along Kelly Drive in Philadelphia

"Three slim angels concentrate raptly on their music as they hover above the grass along Kelly Drive. The work of Swedish-born artist Carl Milles, they are casts from a group of five originals from the Millesgarden in Stockholm, where they overlook that city’s harbor. Milles’ style combined conservative, pictorial elements with a poetic and popular spirit. His characteristically slender figures often have a childlike innocence and vulnerability that make them immediately appealing to the public." Source: Association for Public Art, Philadelphia"

I was down on Kelly Drive again this evening and boathouse row was all lit up for the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta . This image captures a street level perspective of the boathouses at night.

Another shot from my crazy 24 hours in Phily.

This is the view from Spring Garden street overpass overlooking the Schuykill River and Boathouse row in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, right next to the art museum. There is a dam in the river and behind it are the boathouses. For a night shot of these great little buildings, see my post from 8/21.

This is a close-up of a blossoming cherry tree on Kelly Drive in Philadelphia. I had to be careful while taking this picture as there was a large number of bees buzzing around!

Kelly Drive is closed to traffic during the Regatta but the stream of runners, walkers and bicyclists is steady on the walkway and path.

Another shot of this handsome goose - a rare visitor from the North Sea making a vsit to the local area for the winter. And I was lucky enough to get a nice close-up view.
