On Monday, January 9th, New York activist groups are joining a national day of action to urge Senators Schumer and Gellibrand to stand with science and our communities and against the hate and denial demonstrated by Trump’s Climate Denial Cabinet. In all 50 states, groups are urging Senators to stand on the side of the people. In the face of a regressive and greedy federal government that plans to regress on much of the progress on climate seen in the last years, urging state elected officials to stand with the people and against the greedy fossil fuel industry. Staff members from both offices came down to accept letters and petitions from the groups.

NIGER DELTA, NIGERIA -- Tuesday, May 10th, 2016. A Break Free Nigeria action is held at Oloibiri Well 1. Nigeria's first oil well was set up in 1956 in Oloibiri and it was abandoned in 1978; the community however continues to pay hefty pollution costs. Neighboring areas where drilling for oil is ongoing continue to experience constant oil spills and gas flares.
Break Free 2016 is a week of coordinated direct actions that target the most dangerous fossil fuel projects, in an effort to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground and accelerate a just transition to 100% renewable energy. Thousands of people all over the planet are putting their bodies on the line to send a message to polluters and politicians that we need to break free from fossil fuels now.

This event was part of a #NoDAPL week of actions in support of the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota.
Thousands of people from over 200 Native Nations have gathered at Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. If built, the Pipeline would carry crude oil upstream of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Construction of the pipeline has already begun in some areas and has damaged sacred sites.

Two thousand people take to NYC streets in solidarity with Standing Rock Water Protectors protesting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for approving Dakota Access Pipeline and Spectra’s AIM Pipeline, 39 people were arrested in an act of peaceful civil disobedience, confronting the Army Corps by bearing witness in the streets until being removed by police.

Demonstrators went to the streets at the nation's capital to protest in front of the White House, calling on the decision makers in Washington DC to support the transition to renewable energy instead of coal, oil and gas energy.
