No Dakota Access Pipeline - Solidarity from San Francisco
#NoDAPL

Large crowd in downtown San Francisco shows solidarity with the 100s of Native tribes that have gathered in North Dakota, alongside the Standing Rock Sioux, to PROTECT the land and water and sacred sites. At issue is the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline that would transport 470,000 barrels of Bakken crude oil a day to Illinois, where it would continue on to refineries in the Midwest, the Gulf Coast and the East coast. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has sued the federal government to stop construction. As they wait, the massive gathering in North Dakota continues to engage in non-violent direct action, often putting their bodies in harms way to stop the equipment that threatens their water, land, sacred sites and the health of the planet and future generations.
STAND WITH COMMUNITIES, NOT CORPORATIONS
September 13, 2018 - As the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) begins, Indigenous and frontline communities continue to send Governor Brown and those attending the summit the message - stand with communities, not the climate profiteers and the fossil fuel industry.
From the organizers:
"Jerry Brown’s promotion of continued fossil fuel production, carbon trading markets and other incentives to oil, gas and other polluting corporations, perpetuates climate change and decimates Indigenous communities and Native nations, communities of color and other working class peoples throughout California and around the world.
Such perverse subsidies for “climate capitalism” will turn frontline communities into sacrifice zones for decades to come."
Today's action began at Jessie Park with a march to Moscone Center, the site of the summit. In a return appearance, 1000 Grandmothers Bay Area blocked intersections to create a safe space for the protesters outside the summit.
This weeks actions have been organized by Idle No More SF Bay, Diablo Rising Tide, the Ruckus Society, It Takes Roots, Indigenous Environmental Network, the Sunflower Alliance and Brown's Last Chance.
Expanding on the momentum of the quickly growing national movement to hold Chase Bank accountable for its central role in funding the global fossil fuel industry, dozens of New York residents with the organization Rise and Resist, with co-sponsor Rainforest Action Network stormed the new JPMorgan Chase headquarters in central Manhattan on November 20, 2019 demanding the megabank end its massive financing of the climate crisis. ALBANY, NEW YORK, USA -- Saturday, May 14th, 2016. Over 1500 Break Free action participants marched in the streets of Albany and blockaded the train tracks to send a message that oil trains are not welcome in any community. Speeches from local community members and movement leaders set the tone for the day.
Break Free 2016 is a week of coordinated direct actions that target the most dangerous fossil fuel projects, in an effort to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground and accelerate a just transition to 100% renewable energy. Thousands of people all over the planet are putting their bodies on the line to send a message to polluters and politicians that we need to break free from fossil fuels now.

More than 1500 people took the streest of Albany and marched fom Sheridan Hollow to the Capitol Building on April 23, 2018 as part of the "Cuomo Walk The Talk" day of action, governor's seat candidates participated in the protest, Democrat Cynthia Nixon marched the streets of Albany and Green Party's Howie Hawkins marched and got arrested later at the Hall of Governors in the Capitol Building. Actor and activist James Cromwell was also among the 55 people arrested at the Hall of Governors in a non-violent act of civil disobedience, demanding Cuomo to stop all fracking infrastructure, move to 100% renewable energy, and make polluters pay. WASHINGTON DC, USA -- Sunday, May 15th, 2016. Hundreds of climate activists protest at a rally organized by the Break Free movement against fossil fuel projects. Demonstrators went to the streets at the nation's capital to protest in front of the White House, calling on the decision makers in Washington DC to support the transition to renewable energy instead of coal, oil and gas energy.

SEATTLE, WA-- On Friday, September 16, 2016, hundreds of people marched through downtown Seattle in solidarity with the Indigenous water protectors stopping construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. This event was part of a #NoDAPL week of actions in support of the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota.
Thousands of people from over 200 Native Nations have gathered at Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. If built, the Pipeline would carry crude oil upstream of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Construction of the pipeline has already begun in some areas and has damaged sacred sites.
