BOWLS LA, San Marino - As I was on my way home from a shoot yesterday,
the sudden urge to shop came over me. The only problem was I had
dinner reservations at Ruth Chris, Pasadena at 6:45pm and It was
nearing 5pm as I was still stuck in traffic on the i5 North. After a
good hour of rush hour traffic I made it off Rosemead exit where my
parents house is off of. All you SGV residents know that there really
is no great shopping in the area and most of your swag is either
ordered online or through a long trek to your favorite boutique store
either at a mall, outlet, or in my case.. Haight in SF. Well, for all
you hypebeasts and urban wear heads,, look no further than San
Marino.. yes, SAN MARINO.
BOWLS LA, a chiq, modern boutique located on the SW corner of San
Gabriel Blvd and Huntington Blvd., is stylized after this new trend of
small stores that carry a focused style of clothing and accessories
which has for the longest time been widely popular in SF "yay area".
After hearing about BOWLS LA for quite a while through mainly ruckus
owners, I finally made the 3 minute trek down to see what the big hype
was about.
Stepping into the store I immediately noticed that the brands of
clothing were very consistent to the brands that I typically ordered
off Karmaloop.com, except a lot more concentrated with tastefully
picked out clothing. I have to give some quick props to the buyers
for BOWLS LA because had I been there any longer, I would have easily
spent over the $200 budget that I had for myself.
To warn everybody, this store is not somewhere you'd go to get those
"red tag" specials. I went in to check out some kicks and ended up
snagging a pair of Supra Vaiders and a Sevent Letter jacket that
happened to be on sale.
The store was plastered with dope ass brands like Stussy, The
Hundreds, BOWLS house brand, Kid Robot and Upper Playground (some of
my SF favorites), and a handful of other brands that you'd be hard
pressed to find in SoCal.
The one guy there I saw manning the shop was immensely friendly and
helpful, yet not at all pushy. I'm very picky about what clothes I
wear (yes I know I wear Kallusive so I may sound like a hypocrite now,
but It was free!), and the guy there was super helpful in recommending
kicks. The BOWLS LA guys are friends with JTuned as well (who I am
officially going to be shooting for!) so that also sparked up some
common ground.. but no discount ):
All in all, BOWLS LA is probably my favorite new(well new to me)
boutique in SoCal and i'm glad that they're starting a trend of more
shopper friendly establishments.. I mean when was the last time you
rolled out to the mall and could pick up a limited edition Seventh
Letter hoodie on sale, or find Stussy and Upper Playground and the
Hundreds tees that are typically only available online or in SF?
GO TO BOWLS LA AND SUPPORT GOOD TASTE AND SMALL BUSINESSES.. would it
be too cliche to say YES WE CAN right now?
