wiki says "Ramganga West river originates from Doodhatoli ranges in the district of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand state of India. The river Ramganga flows to south west from Kumaun Himalaya. It is a tributary of the river Ganga, originates from the high altitude zone of 800m-900m. Ramganga flows by the Corbett National Park near Ramnagar of Nainital district from where it descends upon the plains. Bareilly city of Uttar Pradesh is situated on its banks. There is a dam across this river at Kalagarh for irrigation and hydroelectric generation."

Must be a majestic river to see in the monsoons, but then only the Forest Dept has that privilege, since common people cannot access to the Corbett National Park after mid June

The stretch of the Ramganga at Chaubari presents a scene of pastoral idyll. Despite the Kalagarh barrage upstream and the urban sewage that is let into the river, life along the river still continues as it has done for centuries. Buffaloes and children cool off in the river, men catch fish for dinner, families grow vegetables.

This gentle life is now going to disappear. The stretch seen in the photograph will be submerged in a couple of years..another quiet life lost to 'development'

'Since the Kalagarh barrage was built, only faltu (excess, unwanted) water gets let into the river' says Ramkumar.

Once part of a group of 60 sadhus who lived by the river's banks, Ramkumar now lives alone defending his land against encroachers. He has a philosophical attitude to the pollution, 'where else will they put it' he asks. 'If there is more flowing water, it will go away,'

Just downstream of the Kalagarh dam, water flows are limited, but life and rituals continue

The Kalagarh dam releases also wash down fish from the upper stretches which are then trapped upsteam of Harewali. This benefits the fishermen of the area

Even this guy in a village (Kalagarh) fell for 'Kurkure'. Probably thinking which flavor to try next...

After it's entry into the plains, the river now supports a different ecosystem

Gharial, or Fish-eating Crocodile - a critically endangered species - on lakeside at Kalagarh Dam in Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.

The croc seemed to be going for the Stone-Curlew bird, but the bird easily evaded the sneak attack and hopped a distance to safety.
