The #47 bike is actually James Stewart's bike. They replaced the number after Stewart pulled out due to is knee not being at 100%. Jeff raced this bike against Mike Laracco and Damon Huffman during the event.

2011 marks the 65th running of the Peoria TT in Thunder Valley - the longest running dirt track race in the world. There was only one year - 1971 - when it was not a sanctioned AMA race. That year, the AMA insisted that the Peoria Motorcycle Club build a grandstand to remain a sanctioned event. The PMC refused, and the Peoria TT resumed as a sanctioned AMA event in 1972. There is still no grandstand at Thunder Valley and no need for one.
This event honored the recent passing of Gary Nixon, and the majority of racers wore a white Gary Nixon jersey. There was also a celebration of 13-time Peoria TT winner Chris Carr, who is retiring after this season.
There are two racing classes: AMA Grand National Championship Singles, and AMA Pro Singles, often called "Experts" and "Pro" or "Nationals" and "Pro". They ride 450cc singles, mostly Honda CRF450R with some Kawasaki KX450F and Yamaha YZ450F in the mix. There was a KTM 450 SX-F and a Suzuki RMZ450 as well, but those are oddballs. (The longer mile events have the Pros riding singles and the Experts riding 750cc twins, often Harley-Davidson XR750.)
The event format is morning practice and qualifying, followed by the opening ceremony and then the afternoon races. The Pros are divided up into two heats of 16 riders. The top 7 finishers from each heat transfer directly to the final. The remaining 18 riders compete in the "Last Chance Qualifier" race, which places the top four into back of the grid of the 18-rider Pro final. The Experts are divided up into three 16-rider heats, from which the top four advance directly to the final. The remaining 36 riders compete in two 18-rider semis, from which the top 3 advance to the 18-rider final. There is also a four-lap "Dash for Cash" for the top 2 from each heat which awards $1,000 and five points to the winner. The Pro final is 12 laps, the Expert final is 25 laps. Riders get to choose their starting position based on their times in the heats. Some riders prefer the outside start position, some the middle, some the inside. So there is no concept of "pole" like there is in road racing.
The total purse is $45,000. The Pro winner earns $1,500 and the Expert winner earns $6,500. The last-place Expert in the final gets $1,000 and the last-place Pro finalist gets $100, as do the last-place Expert semi and dash riders.
