The Kuan Yin Goddess of Mercy Pavilion (GPS: 5.39779, 100.27246) is a gargantuan pavilion at Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang. It shelters the gigantic statue of the Kuan Yin, or Goddess of Mercy of Mahayana Buddhism. The consecration of the pavilion was conducted on Sunday, 6 December, 2009. The date was chosen as it coincides with the 118th anniversary of the founding of Kek Lok Si Temple.

The Goddess of Mercy Pavilion is 82.7 meters tall, from its base to the tip, equivalent to the height of a 20-storey building. The roof is a three-tier pagoda supported by 16 granite pillars embellished with ornate carvings. Each of the pillars comprises 40 cylindrical blocks which are made of granite with a thickness of 45 centimeters. Each cylinder block has a circumference of 2.1 meters. The pavilion was built at a cost of RM40 million.

The present Kuan Yin statue is the second for Kek Lok Si Temple. The idea for a statue was initiated back in 1976. The first statue was completed in 1977 at the cost of RM1.8 million. However heavy rain and a fire which broke out in 1993 damaged it.

A new and taller statue was then constructed. The 30.2 meter tall statue was only completed at the end of 2002. Even there, the plan was already in place to built a structure over it.

....in one of several courtyards within Malaqa House in Malacca / Melaka, Malaysia. This was taken during a family trip in early January and marks the start of a new series on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the temple of Wat Plai Laem on the island Ko Samui you can find this 18 armed Kuan Yin, the Buddha of Sympathy. This statue is honored especcially by the Thai Chinese people. The temple was build in 2004 and also a big Chinese Buddha on its ground, a statue you often find in the Chinese Buddhism.

Der Tempel wurde im Jahre 2004 errichtet und beherbergt unter anderem einen "dicken" chinesischen Buddha wie er im chinesischen Buddhismus häufig dargestellt wird.

Dear friends - please take a moment and send prayers of safety to the monks, nuns, and protesters of Myanmar, Burma. Thank you...

Note: By "prayers" I mean simply thoughts of good intention directed lovingly toward another. No need necessarily for the involvement of a deity or monotheistic belief system honoring only one God - found, for example, in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

There is always recommendation for photographers to be very careful about trees in the background when taking portraits.

Be careful that that the trees are becoming the extended parts of the subject.

When we took the pictures for belly dance in Garry Point Park, the tree branches in the back are like the arms for the model, Linda. :o)

So this is a bad example for portrait!!

Have a great Friday and great weekend!

Because I'm sickish today I spent a bunch of hours, after making this image with fresh daisies for KuanYIn, by making a gallery on Flickr. It's call The Lady and goes several places in the world looking at the Mother Goddess. I've gotten started on my curator's notes for the 18 images - but there's a lot more to write. But its ready for visitors here:

Wiki gracefully came to admire and be part of t his photo session. See below photo and the album '

Back Story .........................................

Ride out and back was warm and dry .

Mama, Rocky and BTP all met me at the

entry gate to The Dog Palace.

Huge big excitement, yelling, dancing,

yodeling, barking, singing and all in all

unbridled enthusiasm, toe licking too !

Did the same same in the bingo room

and soon after we took off for the nuns

place with a bunch of goodies for them.

Today monthly medications were hidden

inside small pieces of hot-dog meat then

according to the schedule each and every

dog was medicated, that's my job ........... ;-)

OK, This photo as you've already figured out

is taken at the spirit house after the three dogs

had finished their second breakfast.

Mama had given Rocky instructions to watch our

6 and keep the monkeys from entering through

the door where the light's coming in.

Simple job for a young boy but being a young boy

Rocky let his mind wander and a monkey entered !

Mama had to scold her young son as seen in the photo.

10-15 seconds later Mama, Rocky and Legs the Zoomer

were a blur of fur as it turned into a big free for all play

time, it was wild, leaping, licking and the usual same same.

Next week the plan is to take Rocky to the dog doctor

for his yearly inoculations and general check up.

I'll have to check but I think Little Stubby

goes in soon after ?

Anyway enough for now as my body is burned out and

needs food then a serious nap.

Thank You.

Built in 1728, the Kuan Yin Temple - or also known as Goddess of Mercy Temple - is a Chinese Taoist temple in George Town on the Malaysian island of Penang, located on Pitt Street. The red lanterns were a temporary decoration to celebrate Chinese New Year.

About the only thing I bought during that trip to Angkor / Siem Reap in Cambodia. Less than 6 inches in height, it's a carved sandstone bust of Lokesvara or Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva of kindness and compassion. In Chinese culture, he/she would be known as Guan Yin or Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy. On the head are little depictions of the seated Buddha.

Bought it straight from the artist who was selling his carvings on the roadside in a village. It was a bargain at 18 US dollars as similar carvings cost 3 to 4 times more in the shops in town and at the airport.

Photographed here on my glass-topped coffee table, with a reflection of my TV screen.

Rocky is soaking wet but still he requires

his quota of quality personal attention.

By the time I got home yesterday my clothes

of course were soaked even while wearing

rain gear. But, they also smelled like wet dog.

So what's that make me ? An Old Wet Dog .. ;-)~

Today is resupply and prepare for tomorrows run.

A friend sent this story about The Buddha & The Beggar.

It's an old story that many of us have heard in our life time.

But yet a good story that helps in your everyday situations.

Enjoy ............................
