The Kuan Yin Goddess of Mercy Pavilion (GPS: 5.39779, 100.27246) is a gargantuan pavilion at Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang. It shelters the gigantic statue of the Kuan Yin, or Goddess of Mercy of Mahayana Buddhism. The consecration of the pavilion was conducted on Sunday, 6 December, 2009. The date was chosen as it coincides with the 118th anniversary of the founding of Kek Lok Si Temple.
The Goddess of Mercy Pavilion is 82.7 meters tall, from its base to the tip, equivalent to the height of a 20-storey building. The roof is a three-tier pagoda supported by 16 granite pillars embellished with ornate carvings. Each of the pillars comprises 40 cylindrical blocks which are made of granite with a thickness of 45 centimeters. Each cylinder block has a circumference of 2.1 meters. The pavilion was built at a cost of RM40 million.
The present Kuan Yin statue is the second for Kek Lok Si Temple. The idea for a statue was initiated back in 1976. The first statue was completed in 1977 at the cost of RM1.8 million. However heavy rain and a fire which broke out in 1993 damaged it.
A new and taller statue was then constructed. The 30.2 meter tall statue was only completed at the end of 2002. Even there, the plan was already in place to built a structure over it.

During my visit, the works around the pavilion is still on going.

it is a two-storey building made entirely of colored glaze bricks, without any timber beams, and was also known as "No Beam Hall"
Being worshiped here is a statue of Kuanyin (the Goddess of Mercy). The statue sits straightly in the lotus throne with a pure jade bottle in one hand and willow leaves in the other. In the niches on both sides of the entrance to the hall, there sit respectively the statues of Manjusri and Samantabhadra which are said to be cast in the reign of the Emperor Qianlong.
But what amazed me most are the 1008 smaller engraved Buddhas surrounding it. These Buddhas are engraved on the exterior of the walls as can bee seen in the photo.
In the temple of Wat Plai Laem on the island Ko Samui you can find this 18 armed Kuan Yin, the Buddha of Sympathy. This statue is honored especcially by the Thai Chinese people. The temple was build in 2004 and also a big Chinese Buddha on its ground, a statue you often find in the Chinese Buddhism.

Der Tempel wurde im Jahre 2004 errichtet und beherbergt unter anderem einen "dicken" chinesischen Buddha wie er im chinesischen Buddhismus häufig dargestellt wird.

Dear friends - please take a moment and send prayers of safety to the monks, nuns, and protesters of Myanmar, Burma. Thank you...
Note: By "prayers" I mean simply thoughts of good intention directed lovingly toward another. No need necessarily for the involvement of a deity or monotheistic belief system honoring only one God - found, for example, in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

There is always recommendation for photographers to be very careful about trees in the background when taking portraits.
Be careful that that the trees are becoming the extended parts of the subject.
When we took the pictures for belly dance in Garry Point Park, the tree branches in the back are like the arms for the model, Linda. :o)
So this is a bad example for portrait!!
Have a great Friday and great weekend!

I am wishing each and every one of my friends the very best for the New Year in ways that I never thought I could possibly be wishing for. 2020 was a year like nothing we've ever seen and that none of us will forget... EVER. Peace, health and happiness to us all. ❤️❤️
This is Kuan Yin, Chinese Goddess of Compassion... a perfect symbol for entering into THIS new year.
(and no rainbow was present when I shot the photo, I added it for the effect of peace and happiness) ☮

I always think about Gaia and Maya's littermates... If I could, I would have kept all of them. But I'm sure they are in lovely homes now....

About the only thing I bought during that trip to Angkor / Siem Reap in Cambodia. Less than 6 inches in height, it's a carved sandstone bust of Lokesvara or Avalokitesvara, the bodhisattva of kindness and compassion. In Chinese culture, he/she would be known as Guan Yin or Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy. On the head are little depictions of the seated Buddha.
Bought it straight from the artist who was selling his carvings on the roadside in a village. It was a bargain at 18 US dollars as similar carvings cost 3 to 4 times more in the shops in town and at the airport.
Photographed here on my glass-topped coffee table, with a reflection of my TV screen.
For all flickr friends!
And remember: don't share your chocolate with your cats, it can be very toxic!

Abandoned Abused Street Dogs.
Rocky is soaking wet but still he requires
his quota of quality personal attention.
By the time I got home yesterday my clothes
of course were soaked even while wearing
rain gear. But, they also smelled like wet dog.
So what's that make me ? An Old Wet Dog .. ;-)~
Today is resupply and prepare for tomorrows run.
A friend sent this story about The Buddha & The Beggar.
It's an old story that many of us have heard in our life time.
But yet a good story that helps in your everyday situations.
Enjoy ............................

Back Story .........................................
There's two photos in this series taken
inside the spirit house.
I'll walk you through both photos so you get
a better feeling of what's happening here.
Also a photo is added to the comment area
showing the outside of the spirit house ........
First, left early in a monsoon downpour !
When arriving at the monkey temple the
rain had slowed considerably to a constant
drizzle. Took care of Mama and BTP before
leaving for the spirit house, the main topic of
this post.
Picked up Rocky on the way and stopped by
the nuns to see Legs and the rest of the crew.
Nuns pointed at the broom that was in my hands.
I smiled and pointed down the road, indicating it
would be used at the spirit house, and it was ..... ;-)
Alright, see the light coming from the right in front of
Rocky ? That's the main entry you've all seen before.
Mama & I sit on the top step while tossing kibble down
to Legs. Rocky stands half way up waiting for Mama to
finish eating so he can take his turn at the dinner table.
Usually a troupe of primates are surrounding us when
this activity takes place. Sometimes it gets out of control !
The statue you see is The Goddess of Mercy, "Kuan Yin" .
Guan Yin is an East Asian bodhisattva associated with
compassion as venerated by Mahayana Buddhists.
On the right you can just see Mamas head up on her
royal platform. To my back is the only other opening
into the spirit house which is just under 2 meters wide
allowing you to step out on the raised cement porch
overlooking the swamp.
And you have seen other photos showing Mama, Rocky
and Legs interacting with the primates on said porch.
At this point I humbly ask you to click on photo no# 2 for
a continuation of this backstory.
