" Tonight, Tonight, the world is full of light, with Suns and moons all over the place. Today all day I had the feeling, a miracle would happen, I know now I was right. Tonight. " must be someone knowing where the words from.;-))))

Knowing the signalling protocols of this area, the red lights say it all. No point waiting for a train here, there's nothing coming! Nice atmospheric morning though.

...Wisdom is Knowing When to Say It

It was a delight watching this fledgling Burrowing Owl as he climbed out of the underground burrow and investigated the surrounding area.

The Burrowing Owl is a small, long-legged owl found throughout open landscapes of North and South America.

Burrowing owls can be found in grasslands, rangelands, agricultural areas, deserts, or any other open dry area with low vegetation. They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs.

They are small, sandy colored owls with bright-yellow eyes. They live underground in burrows they’ve dug themselves or taken over from a prairie dog, ground squirrel, or tortoise.

They live in grasslands, deserts, and other open habitats, where they hunt mainly insects and rodents.

Before laying eggs, Burrowing Owls carpet the entrances to their homes with animal dung, which attracts dung beetles and other insects that the owls then catch and eat. They may also collect bottle caps, metal foil, cigarette butts, paper scraps, and other bits of trash at the entrance, possibly signifying that the burrow is occupied.

Burrowing Owls have a higher tolerance for carbon dioxide than other birds—an adaptation found in other burrowing animals, which spend long periods underground, where the gas can accumulate to higher levels than found above ground.

Unlike most owls in which the female is larger than the male, the sexes of the Burrowing Owl are the same size.

Burrowing Owls often stow extra food to ensure an adequate supply during incubation and brooding. When food is plentiful, the birds' underground larders can reach prodigious sizes.

The oldest known Burrowing Owl was at least 9 years, 11 months old when it was sighted in California in 2014.

As you know, I had work done at home

While putting stuff back, and throwing out tons ;) I came across this small brown package

Unopened, addressed to me, from a couple years ago, from my son :))

I open it, and voila....two small lenses for my phone :D

Guess I had asked, and he got them for me, but they got lost somehow?!

Gee...I don't know :(

So I took them out and went for my early morning walk today

This is taken with the macro part of the lens

The things you find when you're not looking LOL

Have a lovely day, sweet friends

And, as always, thank you

As picturesque as it is, I found it very difficult to visit here knowing I had to leave this beautiful spot behind. We visited a number of such spots but I still think this is the “Greatest Little Resting Spot” on my trip. Thanks for viewing my work. Stay kind.

Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery

Founded in 1917, Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery provided fresh trout to the Sierra Nevada region for nearly a century.

As one of the first-ever fish hatcheries, Mt. Whitney is a representation of the region’s rich culture and history.

Though the hatchery is no longer used to hatch fish, the staff organize tours, fish feeding, and wildlife interpretation exhibits.

Inspired by the surrounding mountains, the hatchery was built to last. Construction started in late March of 1916 with the goal of completing the project in the spring of 1917. With the help of local builders, Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery opened its doors in 1917.

From day one, the hatchery boasted unmatched quality and quantity. The first trout that were hatched were from eggs collected at Rae Lakes. After collection, these eggs were transported from the collecting station to the hatchery via mule train.

During the spawning season of 1918, the hatchery staff collected golden trout eggs from Cottonwood Lakes for the first time. As the official state fish of California, Golden Trout is an impressive but rare sight. The hatchery’s golden trout hatching program was the sole source of this fish throughout the Sierra Nevada.

One final piece of information: the Hatchery was named for Mount Whitney, which is located a few miles to the south. Mount Whitney is the highest mountain in the contiguous United States... with an elevation of 14,505 feet (4,421 m). Mount Whitney is only 84.6 miles (136.2 km) northwest of North America's lowest point, Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, at 282 ft. (86 m) below sea level.

Knowing the cygnets of the solitary pair of swans in my local park had hatched, I went prepared early in the morning.

I waited patiently for a couple of hours for them to come out onto the lake and then decided to got for a coffee in the cafe.

Yes you guessed, when I came back they were out. I was happy that I managed to catch them in the early morning light as planned.....seven cygnets in all.

Knowing a bit more about photography makes it easier to understand how and why some oil paintings, say the impressionist, abstract or even watercolour paintings, came into being.

It seems to me that so much is on the fast track in today's life that sometimes family gets forgotten. Work and success are important, but not so important that it takes priority over family. Our society needs diversity but greed and instant gratitude should not be part of our lives. We need to spend more quality time with one another, technology is fun, but it should not be #1. How many times do we go out to a restaurant and see family and friends all sitting around a table on the cell phone, not taking the time to spend precious moments together appreciating each other. Let's make a special effort to spend more time with our family and friends enjoying the outside, appreciating nature and its beauty, knowing more about one another, caring for one another and being more patient.

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

Knowing a piece of this wonderful country...its historical heritage, its culture, cuisine and mix of many people...I thank Portugal for the reception (December 2019).

Knowing I'd promised my mum a good going over her garden while visiting the other weekend, the only chance I'd get for a walk before heading home would be an early one!

With the sun just risen I headed for a route I used as a child and in those days it seemed a right excursion out of the village, in my 'grown up' state Google maps informed me I'd walk there in 16 minutes 🙈

Not knowing when the next wave is going to hit you, perhaps is your best chance to stay positive. The only way to survive is battling back even if you are feeling down.

Shooting with a GoPro Hero is a totally strange experience for me. Being an optical view finder guy, I have never gotten used to compose a shot with electronic view finders on my mobile phone, or even my Powershot S100. Now, imagine shooting in front of your subjects without using your hand, and instead, strapping and composing the camera with your head. You only get to see the results after pulling still frames out of a long video recording. This is weird and totally out of my comfort zone, but at the same time I feel this as another challenge to get something unique and fun.
