Jute sticks are there to be dried by sun and this creates
an illusion of guarded path. Taken by Canon powershot SX50 HS, in Rangpur District, Bangladesh. Taken at noon. (no edit).
A piece of string is twice as long as half its length. Most likely.
For Macro Mondays this week's theme is 'string'. Here is a detail of a small ball of thin Jute string. Happy Macro Mondays/ HMM

Robert Burns is easily one of my favorite writers. I bought this book awhile back, it was supposed to be decorative. It was wrapped in jute and had some embellishment charms on the jute. I unwrapped the book only to discover, as fate would have it, that this was "The Complete Works of Robert Burns" from 1853. It was not in good condition but wow. I felt like I had found a treasure!

Type: Poem
Oh, open the door, some pity to shew,
Oh, open the door to me, oh,
Tho' thou hast been false, I'll ever prove true,
Oh, open the door to me, oh.
Cauld is the blast upon my pale cheek,
But caulder thy love for me, oh:
The frost that freezes the life at my heart,
Is nought to my pains frae thee, oh.
The wan Moon is setting beyond the white wave,
And Time is setting with me, oh:
False friends, false love, farewell! for mair
I'll ne'er trouble them, nor thee, oh.
She has open'd the door, she has open'd it wide,
She sees the pale corse on the plain, oh:
"My true love!" she cried, and sank down by his side,
Never to rise again, oh.
-Robert Burns
The girl with the wild hair is my contribution to the theme "Creative with Rope" of the Smile on Saturday group and the photo shows her with the items I used to create her: a bottle, a Sisal ball (which I borrowed from the cats), a Jute twine, a yellow embroidery floss and a Sisal rope (which I use to repair the scratch posts of the cats). I'm not sure how long this piece of "rope art" will survive as the cats already complain that they want their Sisal ball back. :) HSoS !
This portrait by Evert Ploej done in oil on jute in 1989 was an Archibald prize finalist. Evert Ploeg (pronounced Ay-vert Plough; born 1963 in Sydney, New South Wales) is one of Australia's most highly regarded portrait painters, who has won a range of painting prizes, such as the 1999 and 2007 Archibald Prize (Category: People’s Choice) and was awarded the highly coveted ‘Signature Status’ of The Portrait Society of America. Working in a tonal realist style (mostly in oil), Ploeg’s pictures bespeak an approach to portraiture that is inspired by documentary methods. Putting emphasis on visually encoding a personal narrative in any given portrait, he builds connection to his subjects through conversation and extended observation both during their sitting as well as in their engagements outside of the atelier. 57337

Jute is known as the ‘Golden Fiber’ due to its golden brown color and its importance. In terms of usage, production and global consumption, jute is second only to cotton. It is the fiber used to make hessian sacks and garden twine. Jute is environmentally friendly as well as being one of the most affordable fibers; jute plants are easy to grow, have a high yield per acre and, unlike cotton, have little need for pesticides and fertilizers. Jute is a bast fiber, like flax and hemp, and the stems are processed in a similar way. Jute is an annual crop grown mainly 80% in Bangladesh in the fertile Ganges Delta. Jute fibers are very long (1 to 4 metres), silky, lustrous and golden brown in color.
In Jamalpur, jute sticks are dominating over fibers these days, the bumper outturn of jute makes the farmers happy and it helps them to recover their loss for sudden flood. Dealers of jute stick are going to the farmers for making advance but the farmers are not keen to make deal right now as they know the price will rise up. Same scenario has been observed when traveling the areas where jute is retted and jute sticks are dried. The usage of jute sticks increased about 30 % in our locality, sticks are not only used as fuel elements it has been used as the raw materials for paper industry. Day by day the production of jute is increasing and in my area jute has been cultivating almost 50000 Hector
land and almost 80 thousand metric tons of jute sticks is produced, the market price is over 12 core tk(BD).As the jute sticks are environmental friendly so its usage is increasing day by day and everyone hope one day the golden time of golden fiber will regain.
Bangladesh is the store house of jute. It grows almost in all the districts of Bangladesh. It grows very well in Mymensingh. One third if the jute production only grows in Mymensingh. It also grows in Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur, Pabna, Comilla, Dhaka, Faridpur, Tangail, and other places of Bangladesh. Bangladesh holds the monopoly in the world jute trade.
Jute is very useful thing. It makes the best and cheapest packing materials which is called gunny bag. Besides this mats, ropes coarse cloths, shawls, tarpaulins are made of it. Its stalks are used as fuel and in making fencing. The green leaves are eaten as vegetables.Narayangonj is the chief of jute Business in Bangladesh. It is called the Dundy of Bangladesh. and Jute is the main cash crop of our country. Our economy depends solely on it.

Let's hear it for JUTE. Amid a deafening cacophony, a hundred looms clatter and chatter their way to producing the rolls of hessian destined to be made into sacks and bags.
A scene on the floor of The Hastings Jute Mill, one of the original factories at Serampore, north of Kolkata.
With all the world's environmental issues concerning plastic, jute should be the material of the future and not the past.

The Jute stalks stay submerged in water for 20 days. When jute stalk is well retted, after loosening the fibers, the fibers are washed with water and squeezed dry.
