Every year, Jupiter is a must-see for any amateur astronomical photographer. This year, the gas giant is not at a good altitude; in fact, it is far from the zenith. However, these nights have not been bad for capturing one of the emblems of the Solar System, even with a small 127 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain. On the left, the capture corresponds to the 28th and on the right to the 30th of December (universal time; in local time it is the 27th and 29th). You can see interesting details such as the areas that mark the divisions between bands, the large red spot (sorry, my images are taken with a monochrome camera) in the frame on the right, a few areas of turbulence and the centers of some minor eddies.
If you have the chance to put your eye to a telescope and look at the largest planet in our neighborhood, don't miss that moment. The view together with its four Galilean moons will leave you breathless. It is an experience difficult to forget.

Almost identical to one of my old shots... Except this was taken while the ship was still in view...
Someone has told me... the sky looked like the surface of the planet Jupiter...

Sorry... it's kinda like a repost... but it is technically a different shot... well, 5% different! hahaha
Hope everyone's having a great weekend... coz I am! :)
Whilst exploring along the coast at Old Hartley I discovered this section of rock which had just been revealed by the receding tide. I was attracted to this scene as the colourful swirling patterns in the formation reminded me of NASA satellite images of the planet Jupiter.

I must have taken dozens of shots last night out of the bedroom window. The brightness of the planet made it difficult to capture.
This is a hand held, (braced on the windowsill) 1 second exposure, which over brightens Jupiter, but also captures some stars, which I could not see with the naked eye.
This image shows Jupiter about 10 min after exit when a hole appeared in the clouds. This image was captured in 830 nm infrared which is gray scale and then converted to blue to match my eyes view of the event with a silvery Moon and Jupiter in a blue background. To my eye this is close to my view. This image was captured with a 120 mm Takahshi refractor, a Nikon Z6II modified for 830 cutoff infrared, a Televue Powermate 2X. Processed with Photoshop from a single image.

The sun's bright light has gone away,
Covered up by blankets of gray.
Rains drench the town in endless showers
The sound of the traffic is muffled by the very approaching thunder...
Skies darken even more, winds pick up!
No worries... everything will be alright
This terrible storm will come and go...
But I'll be here, right by your side!
We will brave the terrible storm,
And soon the skies will clear
Just in time to see the stars!
I am Sailor Jupiter,
Guardian of thunder!
No worries, I'll be your protector!

Out to sea are the well-weathered, granite, Alligator Rocks and not to be dismissed is the little X-70. On the RAW, it's possible to make out seals and cormorants resting on the tops of the rocks.

I'm still practicing my skills on photographing planets. And it's very difficult to focus through a dim image in the viewfinder.

A de-luxe saloon version tested by The Motor magazine in 1953 had a top speed of 82.4 mph (132.6 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 20.9 seconds. A fuel consumption of 29.1 miles per imperial gallon (9.7 L/100 km; 24.2 mpg‑US) was recorded. The test car cost £1207 including taxes.

I'm not an Astronomer..lol Last night after photographing some Owls saw this pretty bright object in the sky, had no idea what it was, looked like a jet with four engines but was not moving..crazy...then someone else that knows said it was Jupiter !
Jupiter and Venus reflecting in some melting ice on the beach. I was badly prepared for this trip, the camera battery was at 2 bars and I didn't bring a spare, and it died in the cold not long after taking this. And I used the wrong settings so stars have a slight trail! But I'm happy to have seen this, enjoyed the outdoors for a while and grabbed at least one decent photo after dark.
Jupiter and its moon Io, captured in November 2021. I was fortunate to have an hour of very nice seeing just after sunset. There are a lot of interesting features on its surface with the Great Red Spot and a lot of smaller dark and bright storms. I'm happy with the way it turned out and it's probably my best so far.

It feels fitting that Jupiter, the king of the planets with more than twice the mass of all other planets combined, should be in the sky accompanied by coronal northern lights, the crown of the gods.

The last shot of the night at Aled Isaf reservoir. It was getting colder and more misty by the water. Frost on the lens, or in the air perhaps, gave Jupiter an unusual icy flare

In 2020, Santa gifted me a couple of second-hand lenses that were on my wish list. Here's my 'new' Jupiter-9, snapped up close by the other old lens - a FA50mm f2.8 Macro.
It's good to have a faster 50mm macro than my ancient Takumar 50mm f4.
Jupiter and one of the Galilean satellites, Europa, imaged during the night of the 22nd October. This is an IR 685nm filter image showing nice detail on Jupiter's globe.
Europa is slightly smaller than our moon and the sixth largest moon in the solar system.
Imaged from home with my Celestron C11 SCT and a ZWO 290MM camera fitted mwith a Baader IR pass filter.
Thanks for looking!
