Matthew the Apostle, also known as Saint Matthew and possibly as Levi, was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist, a claim rejected by most biblical scholars, though the "traditional authorship still has its defenders."

The name "Matthew" means "gift of the Lord." Mark and Luke, in the story of his calling, name him "Levi." Perhaps this was his original name, and he received a new name from Jesus when he became a disciple. (It has also been suggested that he was simply a member of the tribe of Levi.)

Of Matthew's life after Pentecost the Scriptures tell us nothing. Later accounts of his life vary, some reporting that he was martyred, others that he died a natural death. The Christian community since early times has commemorated him as a martyr.

Whether the Apostle Matthew is also the Evangelist Matthew -- that is, whether the Apostle Matthew wrote the Gospel that bears his name -- is disputed. The Gospel itself does not say who wrote it, but the designation "according to Matthew" is very old.

Matthew the Evangelist is symbolically represented by an man (angel), one of the creatures envisioned by Ezekiel (1:10) and in the Book of Revelation (4:7).

There are various interpretations as to why this or that apocalyptic creature, as part of the winged tetramorph from the vision of Ezekiel, is considered a symbolic image of each of the four Evangelists.

For example, the symbol of the Evangelist Matthew is a man (angel), because he begins the Gospel with the human genealogy of Christ.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105).

The Psalms were the original hymn book of the Jewish people. Many of them are attributed to King David, Israel's greatest king and a fine musician. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David

But many of the later Psalms were composed in the Babylonian exile after the destruction of Solomon's great Temple in Jerusalem (587 BCE). It is believed that at this time the small synagogue became the centre of Jewish worship and the rituals of Judaism became formalised.

In Solomon's Temple there was a giant seven branched lampstand. This electric lamp (the main source of light in the Launceston synagogue) has seven branches.

The iconography of the image is unusual: John the Baptist is depicted with angelic wings. This is a symbolic image that reveals his special mission as a messenger ("angelos" in Greek - "messenger, messenger"), prophet and forerunner of the Messiah (Christ).

The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was initially completed in 691–92 CE at the order of Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik during the Second Fitna on the site of the Second Jewish Temple, destroyed during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE. The original dome collapsed in 1015 and was rebuilt in 1022–23. The Dome of the Rock is in its core one of the oldest extant works of Islamic architecture.[2]

The Foundation Stone the temple was built over bears great significance in Judaism as the place where God created the world and the first human, Adam. It is also believed to be the site where Abraham attempted to sacrifice his son, and as the place where God's divine presence is manifested more than in any other place, towards which Jews turn during prayer. The site's great significance for Muslims derives from traditions connecting it to the creation of the world and the belief that the Prophet Muhammad's Night Journey to heaven started from the rock at the center of the structure.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has been called "Jerusalem's most recognizable landmark," along with two nearby Old City structures, the Western Wall, and the "Resurrection Rotunda" in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.[8]

The Western Wall, or “Wailing Wall”, is the most religious site in the world for the Jewish people. Located in the Old City of Jerusalem, it is the western support wall of the Temple Mount. Thousands of people journey to the wall every year to visit and recite prayers. These prayers are either spoken or written down and placed in the cracks of the wall. The wall is divided into two sections, one area for males and the other for females.

King Herod built the Western Wall in 20 BCE during an expansion of the Second Temple. When the Romans destroyed the temple in 70 CE, the support wall survived. For hundreds of years, people prayed in the small area of the wall that could be seen. In 1967, following the Six Day War, Israelis dug below the ground of the wall, exposing two more levels of the wall. They also cleared the area around the wall to create the Western Wall Plaza that visitors see today.

In Judaism, the biblical Judah (Hebrew: Yehuda), who gave his name to the tribe of Judah, was traditionally associated with the symbol of a lion.

In the Christian tradition, the lion is often one of the symbols of Christ.

"The Lion of Judah" is mentioned in the Revelation of John the Theologian (Rev. 5:5): "And one of the elders said to me: do not weep: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed and is able to open the book and loose its seven seals."

As soon as Christianity was born, Christian symbols appeared. And the very first of them was a fish. In Greek, ichthys. This word is written as ΙΧΘΥΣ - and this is an ancient monogram of the name of Jesus Christ, which is made up of the first letters in the words Jesus Christ God's Son Savior.

The Menorah is a universal symbol of Judaism. It is modelled on the original seven-branched oil lamp that was in the Temple of Solomon. For some the seven branches represent the seven days of creation, or the seven heavens full of the light of God. Others see it as representative of the presence of God (seven being the number of perfection). Perhaps it even harks back to the burning bush of Exodus 3, out of which God called Moses to liberate his people from slavery.

Wikipedia: The Dohány Street Synagogue, also known as the Great Synagogue or Tabakgasse Synagogue, is an historical building in Erzsébetváros, the 7th district of Budapest, Hungary. It is the largest synagogue in Europe, seating 3,000 people and is a centre of Neolog Judaism.

The synagogue was built between 1854 and 1859 in the Moorish Revival style, with the decoration based chiefly on Islamic models from North Africa and medieval Spain (the Alhambra).

In 1944, the Dohány Street Synagogue was part of the Jewish Ghetto for the city Jews and served as shelter for many hundreds. Over two thousand of those who died in the ghetto from hunger and cold during the winter 1944-1945 are buried in the courtyard of the synagogue.

kalki avatar kalki avataar sadgurudev shri ramlalji siyag gurudev guru siddhayoga shaktipat method of meditation awakening kundalini shakti kling kreeshn kling spiritual the comforter next prophet judaism, christianity, hinduism.

The Comforter, next Prophet or Kalki of Christians, Jews and Hindus has already arrived or not ??? – a method to Prove that whether the Supramental Force, Supreme Power, Comforter, next Prophet or Kalki of Christians, Jews and Hindus has already arrived on Earth or Not.

It may sound mind blowing to scientific minded people, surprisingly this method is especially for the Scientist and Intellectual Community of the World, who experiment and scrutinize every new concept before believing it, yes, and we must be able to prove it ourselves before believing or accepting it.

Yes; it is a complete and more advanced science than the modern science says Guru Siyag, capable of giving on the spot results just like modern science. Of course it was limited to myths, stories, faith and belief till today, because we were not able to prove it as a factual subject, it was regarded as a mere baseless theory. Guru Siyag has proved it to be a Practical Science; he has discovered and disclosed a new formula or Practical experimental Method, using this Method every Positive minded curious Human Being of the World can himself do this experiment to realize and visualize the truth of spiritual science, leading to spiritual evolution and holistic healing. Guru Siyag has proved that through Siddha Yoga method of Meditation it is possible to get rid of even the so called incurable diseases like cancer, AIDS, Arthritis, Insomnia, and Mental Stress and so on. The Practitioner also gets rid drug and other addictions like alcohol, tobacco, Brown sugar, Morphine, Opium, Heroine etc. These results are nothing but the removal of hurdles in the way to complete development of Human Beings, to attain a Divine Bodily Form, in other words we can call it the journey from man to superman.

Another surprising Disclosure by Guru Siyag is the Method to prove whether the Comforter, Next Prophet or kalki Avatar of Christians, Jews and Hindus has already arrived on Earth or not, yes we can test the truth about presence of that supramental force on earth. It takes only 15 to 20 minutes to experiment it, right now. The Method ---

1. Sit in a comfortable posture on the ground with crossed legs.

2. Close the eyes and concentrate on the Forehead between the Eyebrows.

3. Make a Mental Prayer to that Supramental Force, saying that if the Comforter, Prophet or Kalki is Present on Earth, then I must get the proof, if the Supramental Force is Present on Earth, then I must go into automatic (Kundalini controlled) Spiritual Meditation for 15 or 20 minutes.

4. After this mental prayer start continuous mental repetition(Chanting) of any one sacred word of your choice(God, Jesus, Allah, Rama, Krishna, Buddha, etc.,) in the mind without moving lips or tongue, simultaneously keep concentrating on the forehead between the eyebrows.

5. Continue this process and within a few minutes you will be induced by automatic spiritual meditation, might even hear and see visualizations during this state of meditation.

6. Don’t panic if your body starts moving automatically during this process, these are the Yogic body movements (Real Yoga is induced automatically by inner spiritual power Kundalini), required to free the body from physical, mental and spiritual diseases of all kinds, these will stop automatically after 15 or 20 minutes, and you will come out of spiritual meditation into normal state.

7. To get complete results and benefits, it has to be practiced regularly in the morning and evening at any convenient time, empty stomach, before having food.

8. The time taken to get the results is totally dependent on our Positive approach and curiosity to realize the truth.

9. No barriers of Race, Religion, Cast, Country or Gender, no rules and no regulations.

Vous y êtes les bienvenus.

Although I spent much time at the Western Wall photographing the sites, I also spent quite a bit of time in prayer as well. Here, I passed my camera off to someone and asked them to take a photo of me.

It is difficult to fully describe my time in Israel. In many ways, I feel as if I was "home." As an evangelical Christian, I share my foundations with the Jewish people, for my origins as a Christian are from Judaism. I believe in and follow the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I study and follow the Old Testament as well as the New.

I like this photo because here I can pray side by side with my Jewish brethren. I am reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans, where he states,

"But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry" But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you." --Romans 11:13, 17, 18, NASB

Clearly, as a Gentile and as a Christian, I am the wild olive who is "grafted in" to a covenant relationship with the God of Israel. The Jewish people are the "branches." Although I believe in Yeshua (Jesus) as the promised Messiah, and although Jews would disagree vehemently with me on that point, I still believe that the Jewish people are God's chosen people, and God will continue to have a plan for them.

I am just thankful to be grafted in.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (Polish: Państwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau) is a museum on the site of the Nazi German Auschwitz concentration camp in Oświęcim, Poland.

The site includes the main concentration camp at Auschwitz I and the remains of the concentration and extermination camp at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Both were developed and run by Nazi Germany during its occupation of Poland in 1939–1945. The Polish government has preserved the site as a research centre and in memory of the 1.1 million people who died there, including 960,000 Jews, during World War II and the Holocaust. It became a World Heritage Site in 1979.

Judaism (from the Greek Ioudaïsmos, derived from the Hebrew יהודה, Yehudah, "Judah"; in Hebrew: יַהֲדוּת, Yahedut, the distinctive characteristics of the Judean eáqnov) is a set of beliefs and practices originating from the saga of the ancient Israelites, as embodied and codified in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), as later further explored and explained in the Talmud and other texts. Judaism presents itself as the covenental relationship between the Children of Israel (later, the Jewish nation) and God. As such, many consider it the first monotheistic religion although many aspects of Judaism correspond to Western concepts of ethics and civil law. Judaism is among the oldest religious traditions still being practised today, and many of its texts and traditions are central to other Abrahamic religions. As such, Jewish history and the principles and ethics of Judaism have influenced various other religions, including Christianity and Islam.

Some sources say that the earliest Jews were those who settled in the Malabar coast during the times of King Solomon of Israel, and after the Kingdom of Israel split into two . They are sometimes referred to as the "black Jews". The Paradesi Jews, also called "White Jews", settled later, coming to India from European and Middle Eastern nations such as Holland and Spain, and bringing with them the Ladino language. Spanish and Portuguese Jews (Sephardim) settled in Goa in the 15th century, but this settlement eventually disappeared. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Cochin had an influx of Jewish settlers from the Middle East, North Africa and Spain.

Jews came to Kerala and settled as early as 700 BC for trade. An old, but not particularly reliable, tradition says that Jews of Cochin came in mass to Cranganore (an ancient port, near Cochin ,now known as Kodungallur) after the destruction of the Temple in 70 C.E. A chieftain by the name of Joseph Rabban, according to local tradition, was granted a principality over the Jews of Cochin by the Chera Emperor of Kerala, Bhaskara Ravivarman II . His descendents had, in effect, their own principality (called Anjuvannam in Indian sources) for many centuries until a chieftainship dispute broke out between two brothers (one of them named Joseph Azar) in the 15th century. The dispute led neighboring princes to dispossess them. In 1524, the Muslims, backed by the ruler of Calicut (today called Kozhikode), attacked the Jews of Cranganore on the pretext that they were tampering with the pepper trade. Most Jews fled to Cochin and went under the protection of the Hindu Raja there. He granted them a site for their own town that later acquired the name "Jew Town" (by which it is still known).

Unfortunately for the Jews of Cochin, the Portuguese occupied Cochin in this same period and indulged in persecution of the Jews until the Dutch displaced them in 1660. The Dutch Protestants were tolerant, and the Jews prospered. In 1795 Cochin was occupied by and came under the control of the British Empire. In the 19th century, Cochin Jews lived in the towns of Cochin, Ernakulam, Aluva and North Paravur.

For an insight to Cochin Jewish life in eighteenth Century. read Volume VIII (page 336 to 354) of The Land of the Permauls, Or, Cochin, Its Past and Its Present By Dr Francis Day, a British Civil Surgeon of 1863 AD .

The Jews of Cochin did not adhere to the Talmudic prohibition, followed by other Orthodox Jews, against public singing by women, and therefore have a rich tradition of Jewish prayers and narrative songs performed by women in Judeo-Malayalam.

This shot is taken from Jew Street , Mattancheri, Cochin. I visited the Jewish Synagogue also , unfortunately photography was not allowed there.

In Judaism, the period between the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Antonement) is often known as Yamim Noraim (Hebrew: ימים נוראים ‎"Days of Awe"). I, personally, spend the time reflecting on the past year's events, and how I can do better.

I had driven down to Jones Lake, this evening, to go for a bit of walk, to also enjoy the peacefullness and solitude there. I had brought my camera, just in case, something caught my eye, and I could share it with you. This scene most certainly did.

Now disused, but still maintained as a synagogue, it shares a wall with an active mosque. Interestingly, the caretakers of the mosque are also responsible for looking after the synagogue.

Hasidism, sometimes Hasidic Judaism (Hebrew: חסידות‎, translit. hasidut, [χaˈsidus]; originally, "piety"), is a Jewish religious group. It arose as a spiritual revival movement in contemporary Western Ukraine during the 18th century, and spread rapidly throughout Eastern Europe.

Today, most affiliates reside in Israel and the United States. Israel Ben Eliezer, the "Baal Shem Tov", is regarded as its founding father, and his disciples developed and disseminated it. Present-day Hasidism is a sub-group within Ultra-Orthodox ("Haredi") Judaism, and is noted for its religious conservatism and social seclusion. Its members adhere closely both to Orthodox Jewish practice – with the movement's own unique emphases – and the traditions of Eastern European Jews, so much so that many of the latter, including various special styles of dress and the use of the Yiddish language, are nowadays associated almost exclusively with Hasidism.

Hasidic thought draws heavily on Lurianic Kabbalah, and, to an extent, is a popularization of it. Teachings emphasize God's immanence in the universe, the need to cleave and be one with Him at all times, the devotional aspect of religious practice, and the spiritual dimension of corporeality and mundane acts. Hasidim, the adherents of Hasidism, are organized in independent sects known as "courts" or dynasties, each headed by its own hereditary leader, a Rebbe. Reverence and submission to the Rebbe are key tenets, as he is considered a spiritual authority with whom the follower must bond to gain closeness to God. The various "courts" share basic convictions, but operate apart, and possess unique traits and customs. Affiliation is often retained in families for generations, and being Hasidic is as much a sociological factor – entailing, as it does, birth into a specific community and allegiance to a dynasty of Rebbes – as it is a purely religious one. There are several "courts" with many thousands of member households each, and hundreds of smaller ones. As of 2016, there were over 130,000 Hasidic households worldwide, about 5% of the global Jewish population.

The Holocaust hit the Hasidim, easily identifiable and almost unable to disguise themselves among the larger populace due to cultural insularity, particularly hard today represent 5% of the Jewish population worldwide

This term appears three times in the Book of Daniel (7:9, 13, 22), and is used in the sense of God being eternal.

“I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of Days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.” Daniel 7:9.

Eastern Christianity

In Eastern Orthodox Christian hymns and icons, the Ancient of Days is sometimes identified with God the Father or occasionally the Holy Spirit; but most properly, in accordance with Orthodox theology he is identified with God the Son, or Jesus. Most of the eastern church fathers who comment on the passage in Daniel (7:9-10, 13–14) interpreted the elderly figure as a prophetic revelation of the son before his physical incarnation.

Eastern Christian art will sometimes portray Jesus Christ as an old man, the Ancient of Days, to show symbolically that he existed from all eternity, and sometimes as a young man, or wise baby, to portray him as he was incarnate. This iconography emerged in the 6th century, mostly in the Eastern Empire with elderly images, although usually not properly or specifically identified as "the Ancient of Days."

The first images of the Ancient of Days, so named with an inscription, were developed by iconographers in different manuscripts, the earliest of which are dated to the 11th century. The images in these manuscripts included the inscription "Jesus Christ, Ancient of Days," confirming that this was a way to identify Christ as pre-eternal with the God the Father. Indeed, later, it was declared by the Russian Orthodox Church at the Great Synod of Moscow in 1667 that the Ancient of Days was the Son and not the Father.

Orthodox Jews in Mea She'arim, Jerusalem

The Remah Synagogue (Synagoga Remuh), located in Kraków’s historic Kazimierz district, was built in 1553 and remains an active place of worship. Named for Rabbi Moses Isserles — one of Judaism’s foremost halakhic scholars — the synagogue stands beside his grave in the adjacent Remuh Cemetery, one of the oldest surviving Jewish burial grounds in Poland. Captured at night, the building’s quiet dignity and weathered façade echo centuries of Jewish presence, devotion, and endurance in Kraków.

The light of the Jewish people will never be extinguished.

"In 1931, a rabbi’s wife, Rachel Posner, photographed the family’s brass menorah on their windowsill in the northern port city of Kiel.

Opposite their apartment was the Nazi party’s regional headquarters with a large swastika flag hanging menacingly from the facade.

On the back of the snapshot Rachel wrote an inscription: “The flag says ‘death to Judaism,’ the light says ‘Judaism will live for ever.'”
