A joyous Christmas to you and yours! This is one of my favorite photos of the beautiful Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. As you can see, it was taken before the heartbreaking fire in 2019. I haven’t been back since due to the pandemic, but have a trip planned for next fall. My fingers are crossed….
That might sound like an oxymoron, but I do enjoy being out in days like this. I took this one the same rainy day as the beach shot with the umbrellas. I was, in my mind, willing the man to go stand on the pier, and sure enough, he did.
I was out shooting all day yesterday, for the first time in ages, so wasn't online. Sorry if I've missed some of your images, but I will try to catch up to today's feed.
Can a pier be considered a fence? I'm saying it is :)
Happy Fence Friday!
Another joyous day winds down at Banff with Mt. Rundle reflected in one of the Vermilion Lakes.
"The Vermilion Lakes are a series of lakes located immediately west of Banff.
The three lakes are formed in the Bow River valley at the foot of Mount Norquay. They are located between the Trans-Canada Highway and the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks. A hot spring is found at the third lake."

Not the real reason why we celebrate Christmas, but we do enjoy the festive displays -- here inside Union Station in Kansas City. . .
We spent a day fishing and crabbing this past Sunday. Just moment before the sun went down, I temporarily quit fishing to walk around and took some sunset shots including this one. Everyone seemed to enjoy a day fishing very much. A woman in red screamed loud when she landed a big gaftop catfish.
Thank you, my dear friends, for your wonderful comments. I'm at the moment not able to reply to everyone personally. Have a wonderful weekend!

She scatters in her path the sweetest flowers of nature, and everywhere breathes fragrance and joyousness. The birds of the air are carolling her welcome, and even the mute beasts of the field seem happier at her coming :-)

[we both had Covid and fortunately it was only like a two-week flu, though Lynn did have a bout of bronchitis that lingered a little longer.]
The cemetery at Fort Washakie, WY. Some of the items on the graves were whimsical and so touching. Some items, such as boots or hats, perhaps belonged to the decedent. The crosses for the most part, were wooden and painted in vibrant colours. The rain made it almost magical.

I had to lay down in the mud to get this perspective, but I think it was worth the effort.

Once a year (but be warned: according to the Balinese calendar!) young people meets and - after a very joyous body-painting - they walk through dozens of villages - where all the people is expecting them. Why?They parade, singing, shouting, playing. Addressed to the whole Universe: "This is our land! Evil Spirits away from here!"Through rice fields, forests and rivers. For hours and miles. They stop every once in a temple and pray.
"This is our land! Evil Spirits away from here!"
You would say: "folklore" - "primitivism."But better to know that in Bali, the first day of the year (again according to the Balinese calendar!) three indications are strictly complied with:- no fire - no walking - no working plus one:- Silence.
And, for 24 hours, the streets are deserted, no flights in or out!, all the families at home.
Why? There's an explanation: this is the day when the evil spirits are coming flying over the island. They see it deserted ... and they go where humans - taken from their activism - are not realizing what is happening, and let Bad Spirits enter in their villages, in their houses, in their hearts. An example of a very powerful Bad Spirit? Greed!!!
Can you imagine something like in your country? Can you imagine the power of 24 hours of silence… 24 hours with no TV, no Internet, no cars, no work, no planes, no politicians, no advertising, no newspapers, no thieves (in every village, for some urgencies you are authorized to move, of course, but a self-organized village guards pay attention to movements from special places called Bale – a rotten-built small house you can see in every village).
Look at their faces, look at the beauty of being aware of the personal and collective responsibility to be free!To guarantee a balance between taking and giving - with the environment and among men - is the key of the Balinese spirituality in every day life. That's why they smile and look at you in the eyes every time they meet another human being.
PS: "Thank you" in Indonesian is "Terima Kasih" - they say in Dictionaries. But the true translation is: "To Give, To Receive"

It is quite interesting really that for several mornings i would arrive here below and about 50 yards from the bridge taking shots upward of people who walked, jogged or rode their bikes at the beginning of their day. Also what was intriguing to me was further back from the river was this huge crane in line with the bridge. Sometimes i was able to catch the sun rising below and above the bridge while people cruised atop the bridge with different joyous effect.
