This cold blast is creating some wild scenery on the Great Lakes. This is from Saturday morning (January 24th), about 2 hours before sunrise at the Saint Joseph lighthouse along Lake Michigan. For the first time in a week, the waves had completely calmed. The temperature was near 0, and ice crystals were building up on my camera, but it was nothing compared to the mammoth build-up of ice on the lighthouse. I have wanted to get a photo of the icy lighthouse in the dark of night for years. In a perfect world, I would have stars in the background. However, this is winter on the Great Lakes. With that said, I really like the black and white version of this image. It is one of my favorite black and white images I have ever taken.
Joseph's Coat Moths found in the Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia. They are also known as Painted Vine Moths.
The moths are day flying, with black, red, pale blue and yellow colours. Male and female look similar except the female is a bit larger and with larger white area on thorax.
The sun sets over the turbulent waters of St Joseph Lighthouse in Michigan. I was pretty happy to have gone out this evening, as the skies were almost completely clear by me when I left. But I gambled and drove out there hoping that Lake Michigan would drum up some nice clouds for a sunset. I was definitely not disappointed as the skies turned a fiery red after the sun sank below the horizon.
Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal (French: Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal) is a Roman Catholic minor basilica and national shrine on Westmount Summit in Montreal, Quebec. It is Canada's largest church.
In 1904, Saint André Bessette, C.S.C., began the construction of St. Joseph, a small chapel on the slopes of Mont Royal near Notre Dame College. Soon the growing number of the congregation made it too small. In 1917 a larger church was completed that had a seating capacity of 1,000. In 1924, the construction of the basilica of Saint Joseph's Oratory was commenced; it was finally completed in 1967.

Father Paul Bellot, an architect, completed the dome of Saint Joseph's Oratory between 1937-39. The dome is the third-largest of its kind in the world after the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro in Côte d'Ivoire and Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Joseph L Block departed Duluth in beautiful early evening light bound for Two Harbors to load pellets after taking on a partial load of blast furnace trim at CN-Hallett Dock 5 in West Duluth. A pair of great salutes upon departure. 5/19/2020
Heading back up Leith Walk, and the sunlight was now hitting this handsome building on Elm Row. It's been a landmark building for many years, and it was a wine and spirit merchant's business (you can see this still in th signage) from the 1890s onwards, and today is a popular bar.
I was taking a pic of the facade while the light was so good on the stonework, then zoomed in a bit as I saw the people sitting around in front of it in the sun, so I thought I would get a couple of people watching snaps too

Self unloader Joseph L. block owned by Cleveland Cliffs is well into unloading ore at Cleveland's Bulk Terminal on November 2, 2024. It was built in 1975 and has kept that name for it's whole career. It's somewhat rare for a laker to dock at CBT headed west. They more often back in. The newest addition to Cleveland's skyline is the Sherwin Williams headquarters just to the left of the Terminal Tower. Cleveland's House of Pain now known as Huntington Bank Field sits on the far left. This could become a historic photo if the Brown's owners make good on their plan to move off of the lakefront into the suburbs.
