An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier washes his face during Operation Godfather in Durzay, Afghanistan, Jan. 15, 2011. 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment (2/1) Regimental Combat Team 1, partnered with the ANA successfully cleared the last remaining Taliban stronghold in the southern area of Garmser District. 2/1 discovered and cleared numerous weapons caches and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) while expanding the footprint of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and Government of Islam Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA) to the community of Durzay. The Regiment is deployed to the Helmand Province while in support of the International Security Assistance Force.
