I was invited by the editors of Merge magazine to design the cover of their May 2009 edition. The brief was to deliver pixel art, illustrating an article about jobseeking in the current economic climate.
This image began with a screenshot from the NES classic, Duck hunt. A few tweaks and a new colour palette later, enter 'Job Hunt'. The ladder and stairs remind me of Donkey Kong a little too.
If you enjoy my pixel art, check out Dead Pixel Designs... I've made some unique merchandise featuring original pixel art, including this design and many others... on shoes, apparel and even recipe binders. I will be adding plenty of new designs in the coming months, so keep an eye on that page ;)

The editors requested an image reminiscent of the end-of-level sequence in Super Mario Brothers where Mario leaps on the flag pole, and enters the castle while fireworks pop around him.

Fun project with The Student Room where DWP put up jobseeking tips and advice for young people for 21 days. I managed the relationship with Student Room, responded to comments, tweaked copy where I could and secured free video content through CareerPlayer. I also worked to get the activity promoted on Directgov and social media channels used by Student Room, Directgov and DWP. The forum got 53,000 views and 70+ comments over its 21 day run.
