bis nächsten Montag!

(explore 16.10.2022)

Manchester Town Hall, Manchester

Every Manchester photographer who I’ve come across on Flickr has taken and posted images of these damn phone boxes, all apart from me! I have photographed them many times but have not been happy with any of the results (call me picky). My fellow Flickrites, Eddie and Kevin have posted many images over the period we have been arranging meet-ups, but I’ve still to get out of the starting blocks.

The tipping point came last week with the posting of the collection known as ‘day 2 night’... you know who you are! This collection now includes the said phone boxes, which finally pushed me over the edge.

I hatched a plan and followed the weather forecast all week - the Saturday morning looked the best chance of a bright day. So with everything checked and packed Friday night, Mrs R (with tripod) and I headed into town to nail these SoBs and finally get this monkey off my back. If I could sue the BBC Weather Dept for mis-information I would, Saturday morning was cloudy and rainy and dull, whereas the afternoon (back home by then)....glorious, but that’s just a side issue now.

Although not particularly early, Manchester is a ‘dead’ city before the shops open so to be there before 8am was all part of the plan. I even walked the location hiding beer cans and plastic bags for that ‘clean’ shot... but I draw the line at chewing gum and cigarette stubs!

In the case of these particular phone boxes and my own photography style, I consider this to be my ‘banker’ shot, much in the same way a field athlete might register a reasonable distance in the long jump or javelin... it’s a marker for future attempts. So here it is... nothing original, no wow factor, no shot in a million, but my banker of these much photographed Manchester icons, landmarks... but really, they’re just a couple of red phone boxes.

However, there may be others... you have all been warned!!!

…… A busy morning this morning! Mr Logalog had us 1st on the list - just how we like it so we can stack them away before lunch! Took a few shots but the ‘Last one’ had to be my #234 shot of the day! Again quite pleased with the iPhones take on it too using ‘portrait’ mode to get the shallow DoF. So cosy toes this Autumn for us thanks to Logalog. Alan:-)

…… A bit of self indulgence today for my #321 shot of the day, finished the wall panelling on the last wall today - 3 weeks of much knee bending!! We fell in love with some where we stay in the lake District so now we have our very own ‘Sale Fell’ in Shropshire instead of Cumbria. Just got to rearrange the furniture now! Alan:-)

3/52 - Weekly Photo Journal of 2020! Work, work, work....deadlines wait for no one but end the week with goals achieved and ready for the weekend. The 'home' button has never felt more apt.

My home office minus my lap top (hidden in a drawer, I was gift wrapping).

A few days off...and I'm really proud I didn't misuse them - office organized!

Once a year is enough, wouldn't you say?

I should have taken a before shot but was overwhelmed. Started organizing (read packing the garbage bags) in the evening; this was taken the following morning...light here is so beautiful.

Hadn't got a clue what to do for today, then as I was filling up my washing up liquid dispenser I thought, bubble, me in one, job done.

My take on this week theme of moody

Meet Tilly. Don't you just love that name? I was so excited that they both agreed to a photo by me. Tilly has such a sweet aura about her and I was pleased to have captured it here. The flicker of the hair adds to that feeling in my opinion.

The encounter was brief however Tilly did contact me after and both her dad and herself liked their portraits.

MASSIVE!

Lake District (05/16) - View north from Glaramara (783m)

My first ParkRun today. I've been part of a beginners ladies running group since the start of September and have loved it. Seriously fitter, lost a fair few inches and enjoying getting out in the outdoors just for me.

Completed the 5K in 34mins exactly... my aim was under 35mins so I achieved that... now need to work towards under 30mins! There was a mahoosive hill though which was a killer - but I want to go back and have another crack in a couple of weeks and see if I can improve. I definitely have the bug!

Yay! Polo paint job complete, final cut & polish done, little car looking tidy once more, also with the passenger door window lift that failed last week fixed. Not great light but I wanted to document the moment.

Completed leak free ( huzzah!) supple yet resilient (Oh matron!) unit back in place.

Now I'm off to the test station to get my piece of paper.

Around the ranch, these ladies only trust the Bobcat UTV to get the job done.

Mid December 'someone' decided he needed a couple more pairs of 'lounging pants' a.k.a. PJ bottoms. I suggested Christmas might bring some, but he liked 'these ones'. They showed up Dec. 23rd and needed to be hemmed. I can't remember the last time I hemmed, or ironed. In fact I wasn't sure we still had an iron - but I found it. Job done. Shot yesterday - uploaded yesterday then went about dinner, netflix, wine, etc. Saw this morning there was an upload error... What is going on? BTW if I hadn't hemmed them 'someone' would have just stapled them - and it's me who couldn't live with that LOL!

There’s only one way to say Thank You to friends and family who’ve helped us with their various skills when you’ve been at it refurbishing the house for months -and that is with a good cuppa Welsh tea. #jobdone.

This photo was taken on a visit to Blair Athol last year with the old ball and chain. (Taken by my Daughter who was embarrased to be seen with us.) (( Isn't that a Dads job anyway?)) We are arguing about where would be the best place for me to stand and get a photo of the various plants around the pond. She was telling me to stand in the middle and i thought that was rather nasty of her after allowing her to share 22 years of my life and all she wants to do is drown me. Now theres gratitude for you. I know i am a god, but even i cant walk on water but i can turn Whisky into urine. Im multi talented as well as being a joy to live with, (If only the wife would appreciate me more.)

The auger attachment is ideal for installing fence posts, planting tree or digging footings for new decks. Quickly and accurately get the job done.
