Day 3 of PicADay/Xmas style: Your Favorite Christmas Song
It's not my favorite Christmas song, but it was one of my Dad's favorites. He loved the Brenda Lee version, and every time I hear it, I get tears in my eyes.
The simple sheet music is mine, from 1977, during my piano lesson days. :)

The snow in Vancouver has been melted away. This is taken at Pemberton at a creekside in my Whistler hiking.
Merry Christmas to everyone from Marjorie and me. Thank you for your words of support during my time in Melbourne attending to my father's medical needs. As you will have seen by now he is back home recovering after six weeks in hospital. So our whole family will enjoy this Christmas a little more.
It's good to be back home in Launceston though. I love this little city. On the trip back from the airport we passed Max Jago's place and hundreds of people had gathered to see his Christmas lightshow. Last night I went down early to find a spot to set up my camera. Here is a sample of Max's impressive work.
From us all down here in Tasmania, we wish you a Merry and Blessed Christmas. Times are tough (and that's no cliché in 2020), but try to enjoy what this season is about, and we'll all look forward to a better New Year.

BACKSTORY: I joke that this was "the whitest night of my life", as Carolyn & I really aren't into Christmas very much, and don't even go to family Christmas parties usually. (Just the real holiday.)
So imagine us at a brony party/concert, replete with paid admission, tons of food & *non-alcoholic* beverages, Christmas carol singing, and tons of bronies, everywhere? It was packed. We actually had a great time!!! It's not the type of thing we'd repeat a bunch, but the draw of seeing a voice actor for a cartoon we watch, in person, for most likely the first time in our life? That was something. Plus, it was a great meal of party food. We skipped dinner to maximize things. :)
And the house was a total rich-person's house, too. Some of the most ridiculous opulance I've ever seen, like at least 3 (of the 5 or so) refrigerators within 20 feet of each other. Don't get me started on the book collection that seemed sympathetic to the Confederacy, or the matriarch talking about how awesome George Bush is.
We are definitely out-of-place people, wherever we go. Including Brony Meetups...

This is a slow-motion video of the Salvation Army volunteers dancing to "Jingle Bell Rock," taken at Rockefeller Center on December 3rd.
The "Jingle Bell Rock" music was playing in the background, but it was completely garbled and distorted by the slow-motion video recording that I did with my iPhone5s ... so I overlaid another copy of the music on top of the video...

This show was a ton of fun to shoot. That said, I was sad to wake up the next morning to hear that Rivers' tour bus was in an accident, especially after being about 1ft away from the guy not even 12hrs earlier. Get well soon, Rivers!

The Electrolytics were the house band at Credence Systems in the early 1990s. Founded in the autumn of 1991, they played Friday night beer-after-5-o'clock parties every week, and, notably, the Holiday Party of 1991, because business wasn't great and there wasn't any budget for something more elaborate. Hence the dark glasses and nice clothes.

The Electrolytics, Credence Systems' house band, played the holiday party for 1991. Things were tough economically, so we were the entertainment, along with a DJ. The meal was vegies and cold-cut trays. This may have been the best holiday party I was ever in or at. Lead by Jim and Monte on guitar, Daryl and Kim on flute, Al B. on keyboards. I played bass guitar, Gerry Falcon played congas and Jim brought in a ringer, the drummer from his outside band.

The song is almost certainly "Desifinado", "Slightly Out of Tune", a plum bass part and one Jim enjoyed and propably played better than I ever will... Jobim, man! One of the joys of this particular band was playing everything from "The Real Book" versions of Wayne Shorter tunes to Tequila... good times!
Drummer Norm was the ringer who didn't work at Credence- he was a pal and band-mate of Jim's. He played a real, "acoustic" snare and everything else was Tupperware, triggers for a digital system. as loud or soft as he wanted. The Electrovoice or lookalike behind him is his, for the electronic drums.
Just to bring it all full circle, they were in the band which had backed up Lizzie Ferrari, whom "Bitch, The woman's Rock mag with bite" had written up about 6 years before.

Monte has been playing this big Gibson for years, like an ES-335 but far thicker. Showing a nice pattern (they're both good, gentle, kind, people) my friend Joanie has pretty much the same guitar- ES-335-like but thicker and with the beatiful brown walnut finish.

This is Christmas 1991. There wasn't money for a big party so we had sandwich trays and The Electrolytics [ --)|-- ], the all employee band with a ringer- a drummer from the other guitar players' outside band, were the entertainment. Originally we were "Eddie and the Electrolytics" but, although he attended the first meet-and-greet rehearsal, our Eddie was embarassed by playing in public (with us, perhaps) and never performed with the group. After a while, he asked us to drop his name, and we did, hence, "The Electrolytics" It could have been really cool to have a two keyboard two guitar two flute two drums and percussion band... Or not.
