Garry Jewelers in Park Slope, Brooklyn was founded in 1951 by Ralph & Rose Garafola. We spoke with the second-generation owner Michael in 2006 when we interviewed him for our book “Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York” and he told us one of the reasons for its longevity was that “Customers appreciate the stability of a long-time business and see our sign outside and know that we’ve been in the neighborhood for years.” Sadly, this family-owned business has been closed since 2009 and the #storefront has sat dormant but with its #neonsignage and wonderful inlaid tile of “Garry” written in #script on the front lobby entrance intact. We hope this lovely #storefront with its neon is preserved but its future is still uncertain.
